I do wonder if the people trash talking The Idea of You as wish fulfillment fanfic made for screen and treating it as if a movie with the premise of "famous person paired with a "normal" non-celebrity" is new not just a subgenre of romance since the beginning aren't aware of that. Julia Roberts made her career on these films (Pretty Woman, Notting Hill). It's a nonsense criticism.
i hate that diet culture means all the tasty drinks everywhere are loaded with stevia now. this isn't even a stance about health, I just think it tastes so fucking bad

Kids are very perceptive and know who they can trust and who theyāre comfortable around. I love how kids always connect to Dean.

thereās very few things that drive me up the wall in fandom as much as this weird new assumption that fandom is primarily a space for younger people that older folks are only accepted into in a trial basis if they promise to centralize and accommodate younger fans, and further, anything else is creepy and predatory. ITāS OKAY FOR ADULTS TO PRODUCE CONTENT FOR OTHER ADULTS.
if I have to read āwomen in their 30sā used as an insult one more time I swear Iāll - step away from that user and just hang out with the other grownups who consistently create good content because Iām also an adult and too busy comparing car insurance to fight with teenagers on the internet, but goddAMMIT Iāll be annoyed

Top Five Joel Fry Movie Roles
This week, Iām picking out my Top Five Movie Roles for Joel Fry. Personally, I think Joelās film work varies a lot more in quality than his TV work. In movies, heās had more bit parts/thankless roles, and heās been in a few movies that are just too bad for me to enjoy. But pretty much every time he's given anything at all to work with, he turns in a splendid performance. Here are my favorites!
Rocky, Yesterday
(GIF by @loripacks)
I canāt quite articulate why this character has such a hold on me. Yesterday is a regrettably-mid movie, but I love Rocky to bits! Heās delightfully funny, an adoring friend, and I like the way Joel Fryās performance pushes against the boundaries of the usual archetype for this sort of character. Heās the chaotic comic-relief best friend, but Joel plays him with genuine depth of feeling, and I just canāt get enough of it!
Jasper, Cruella
(GIF by @rasputinaillyanna)
Look, say whatever you want about Cruella. I donāt even care. I really enjoyed this movie, and I loved Joel Fry as Jasper. He brings so much much warmth and heart to the film with his performanceāin a story that has a lot of archness and artifice, I love the contrast of Jasper being so honest and grounded.
Hugh, Bank of Dave
(GIF by @derekstilinski)
Although this movie is kind of a boilerplate feel-good underdog story, I love it for Joel Fryās performance as Hugh. He plays so well off Rory Kinnearās Dave, and I adore watching awkward, anxious Hugh gradually come out of his shell during his time in Burnley. In many ways, this is a film where the plot and a number of the characters can feel predictable/formulaic, but as Hugh, Joel defies all my expectations of what that sort of role in that sort of movie is like. God, I love Hugh so much!
R, The End We Start From
(GIF by @derekstilinski)
Joel Fry plays this role with such sensitivity, omg. From Rās gentle sweetness with the Woman in the early scenes to his quiet vulnerability as heās wrecked by trauma, Joel navigates this complex character with honesty and compassion. The soft intimacy between him and Jodie Comer is also excellent!
Bob, American Sweatshop
(GIF by @derekstilinski)
Just like with my Top Five TV Roles last week, the final entry on this list is from a very recent project, one that was newly released as I was doing Joel Fry-days. Thereās just something about Bobādespite the slightly uncanny American accent, this is a wonderful performance that adds so much to the film. Itās so interesting to me that the other moderators kind of hold Bob up as this example, like, āHey, at least Iām not that screwed up!ā, but really, Bob is the one whoās actually allowing himself to process the toxicity their work exposes him to. Heās raw, authentic, and messy in a way that his coworkers donāt allow themselves to be.
