“look!” minhee skipped over to minah, landing in front of her with a spin. “ah, it all fits so perfectly!” yeah, of course it did. this was bc’s anniversary concert – they’d done as many fittings and rehearsals for it as their schedules allowed over the last couple of weeks. regardless, there was still something so magical to minhee about wearing lip gloss stage outfits, even if it was only to go out and sing two songs, before the three of them would be whisked back into their dressing room to change again. she was gonna give those two songs everything she had … or, well, about 60 per cent or so. the other 40 per cent was reserved for their boring lipstick set.
“gah, we’re going to go from this,” minhee gestured to her polka dotted outfit dramatically, “to … bleh, y’know?” bleh, of course, being the hurt locker outfits. they all looked the same out there, in matching t-shirt and short co-ord sets. minhee dropped her arms down against her sides, letting them smack against the poof of her skirt and, still standing up, laid her head against minah’s shoulder. “heh, i’m still excited though. do you think the fans still care about lip gloss too?”
when it came to opinions on lipgloss, minah was probably smack in the middle of the other two, more leaning into minhee’s direction than hyeju’s. because as much as hyeju seemed to despise lipgloss, minhee seemed to absolutely adore it, giving for a fun contrast for minah depending on who of her fellow members she was hanging around. she defintiely was a little more nuanced about it than minhee, could see what it was that disgruntled hyeju but for the most part, she felt positive. “you look stunning!” she beamed at minhee, helping her fluff her skirt a little. “you always looked the best out of all of us in these dresses anyway. don’t tell hyeju i said that.” she laughed, sending the younger a quick wink.
minah grimaced lightly thinking about the other outfit waiting for her. sure, the lipgloss dresses were always a bit much but they were iconic. the hurt locker outfits on the other hand... kind of just felt like they were trying to be hard to appeal young and hip, the tube socks and sports shorts and cropped jersey with big golden jewelry not something minah would have picked out. “i’m sure some of them will, maybe not all but there is a reason we get to perform again no?” she offered with a warm smile. “and we still care about lipgloss, that has got to count for something as well no?”
gaeul nods with a smile. even if she has heard this before, manners matter to her more than anything and right now she has to try her best to not look unappreciative of the piece of advice given to her. she has to remind herself that her seniors have experienced the industry before her and their actions meant well so she would not suffer badly in the future. “at first, it was a lot indeed. i didn’t know which camera to look at!” she chuckles, remembering the first time she dances on stage. her eyes were all over the place as she struggled to look for the camera. “and i figure bc will make us prepare for a comeback straight after the group debut’s over?”
she could feel uncertainty over the older female’s words. who could blame her? chroma’s debut is different and the first of its kind. nobody knows if there will be complications once the group debuts as a whole. not even the members themselves. but their willingness to try and take on this challenge is something all of them have in common. “i will, and i will make sure the others too. if we want to make this work, teamwork is inevitable.” she replies, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “the song sounded like something i would enjoy, not going to lie. so it’s definitely easier to dance to.” despite having complaints of listening to the song too frequently, gaeul still prefers ‘new’ out of all the solo songs right now. “i’m sure erii can pull this off too. i won’t reveal much but i’ve seen her choreography and it’s pretty impressive too.”
minah laughed softly at the girl’s comment. “yeah... i can imagine.” it was refreshing, hearing the girl speak so frankly about her debut and how the experience measured up to the reality. of course minah remembered her own debut but at this point, that felt far away and distant and while she could recall big details, it was the small things like these that were lost on her unless tapped into like right now. “right? there is so many camera’s out there, i didn’t realize that either before i went up on that stage.” she laughed. “also it’s a lot warmer up on stage then you expect? god it’s so hot under all those lights.” another amused chuckle. “yeah, they probably will, so take this breather yeah? i imagine this year has been a lot so far but it’s only gonna get more intense.”
there was a spark of pride in minah’s chest watching how dedicated gaeul seemed to be to not only do well herself within the group but for the members to do well as a whole, a proper team. a part of minah wonders if it was harder for chroma to feel like a cohesive whole, to develop that sense of sisterhood that seemed to be what groups aspired but hardly ever reached. “you keep a good eye out for the other girls. that’s a very impotant thing to have, make sure to treasure that.” lipstick would never be as close as minah had hoped, too much had happened for that but she cherished the friendships she did have within the group. “well i will be looking forward to erii’s solo debut too then! looks like chroma is shaping up to be home to a lot of great dancers.”
there are times where hyeju begins to wonder how annoying she probably sounds to both minah and minhee seeing that she seems to be the only one of the trio that has such a big distaste for lipgloss. don’t get her wrong because she absolutely loves performing with the other two lipstick members; she simply hates the concepts that lipgloss have been subjected to. truthfully, there must have been another member that could have taken her spot and pulled it off better. sometimes she feels like she sticks out like a sore thumb because of how terribly she does in comparison to minah and minhee.
“pretty sure our screaming matches in the beginning did go viral on twitter a few times,” she says with a chuckle. hyeju would never have known it on her own since she rarely spends time on social network, but she’s had a few friends send it to her whenever it goes around. “i actually prefer party. like sure, it sounds like the soundtrack to a barbie movie, but it’s not super wacky.” while she admits that party was almost a waste of a song compared to their skills, she’d still prefer performing that especially since the outfits were normal. she’ll take plain old white and denim over being dressed like a milkshake. “i’ll do my best but only because you asked me to.” a sigh leaves her lips before she lets out another groan.
having been stuck together for so long already, minah knew all of the lipstick girls came with their own things, their own unsavory habits, their own pet peeves. hyeju’s distaste towards lipgloss was probably a pretty good example of that. minah could never find it truly annoying, something she had simply learned to overlook in favor of the many more wonderful sides her friend had to offer. there was no use in getting stuck on the small things. if anything, minah found it kinda cute. hyeju didn’t often get so pouty and whiny. “our only relevance with the international crowd is screaming in donut dresses. how do you feel about that hyeju?” minah teased softly, nudging the girl with her elbow.
minah scrunched her nose as hyeju admitted to prefering party over lipfloss’ music. of course, her friend was entitlted to her own opinion but still... she was wrong. “party makes me feel like discount bee. like, bee’s summer songs if they were bad.” minah shrugged casually. she knew she would never like every song lipstick would put out, she would just like for those she didn’t like to stop making a come back every once in a while “wanna make a deal?” she offered. “i cover your parts in the lipgloss songs and you do the same in party. no one will suspect a thing.” she laughed at her own ridiculous suggestion. minah reached over to pet hyeju’s hair. “oh, such a good big girl you are. i’m very proud of you.”
duri always enjoyed working with minah, to be completely honest. something about it was a lot more enjoyable - like when he starred in lipstick’s hoot! or when they were both the mcs on the show with dai. though of course, duri didn’t really see this as work, even if bc entertainment was making sure they were there. this was something that was more so involved in his long set of hobbies. so, truth be told, he really didn’t mind that bc entertainment was making sure that they were indeed there making bc entertainment look good.
it was slight organization, rather than leaving it in one big group. it left it to be searched a lot easier, for the kids to find what they would like, and there was clearly something here that everyone would like. it was a rather easy task, so it probably make sense as to why duri and minah gained a second task to go along with their first assignment. he nodded his head in agreement, “my hands are ready to work!” he says, a giggle leaving his lips after. he nodded, “do you have any more solos coming?” he asked, curiously. it was probably something she couldn’t say yes or no to, but it didn’t hurt to ask. “a lot of solo prep and rehearsing for the upcoming knight tour is what’s apart of my current schedule.”
the two of them were good friends, going back to their trainee days and it was something bc entertainment had most definitely caught up on at this point, making sure to ocassionally pair them up for different schedules. it was nothing too overt, male/female friendships remained tricky territory after all but whenever not too obvious, bc liked to put them together for their good chemistry, minah would not complain about that.
putting the last few things in place, making sure the categories didn’t overlap, minah took a step back to proudly look over their handiwork. “well, good, because i think that’s that for this. you good to move over to the kitchen to help there?” she smiled, brushing her hands together to dust them off. “promotions for my current album are still priority for now, though that is coming to an end soon too. i’ve got another musical lined up which is exciting and there is some very careful talk of releasing a single maybe in the winter time but i don’t have any actual confirmation on that yet, i’ll have to wait and see.” minah shrugged lightly. “oh a tour, fun! it’s been a while since lipstick has been on tour, i’d like to go on one again. i think the primadonna tour might just have been one of my absolute favorite things lipstick has done. is it another world tour for knight or what’s the plan?”

"why would i think anything bad of fans the same gender as me!" minah exclaimed, gently holding the hands of the girl sitting across from her. "our vanities all support us and our music why would i prefer either one over the other?" she smiled sweetly at the girl, glad to see that she seemed a bit less nervous. "and personally, if you ask me, i think our female vanity are always some of the prettiest girls ever! all of them! we really have the prettiest fans~"
what is the most recent thing that made you happy?
minah had many things to be happy about and possibly, an embarrassing amount of them were about her girlfriend. but minah could talk around that. "my sister is planning her wedding! that has made me very happy, it's a very exciting time." minah smiled warmly. "and our comeback showcase made me really happy! our comeback as a whole did, i'm so happy to be out performing and meeting our fans again so much, those really are my favorite moments of being an idol." she leaned a little closer to the fan, as if letting them in on a secret. "there is also something coming up that makes me very happy but... i can't talk about that yet! you gotta wait a little longer!"
what song would you want to sing to or play for someone you like?
minah's mind immediately sprang to jiah. what was a song that she would want to play for her girlfriend? "i think... maybe taylor swift's invisible string? i really like that song and i think that would be a very romantic thing to do." somewhere in the back of her mind, minah made a note to do exactly that for her girlfriend sometime soon. "but i think, when you really like someone it's less about the song and more about the gesture."
what’s your favorite scent?
"i really like refreshing, calming scents most of all." minah hummed, thinking about the very scented candles and what not scattered throughout her apartment. "things like lavender, freshly washed linnen, sea breeze, peppermint, eucalyptus, stuff like that." she smiled. "it's silly but they make it feel very easy to breathe and i think that relaxes me the most? to be able to take a deep breath and feel refreshed!"
what do you consider to be your most charming feature/trait?
"ah... probably my smile?" minah tilted her head to the side a little as she pondered it. "i've seen fans compare me to pictures of siling puppies a lot, that's always very cute to see and i'm flattered that our vanity like my smile so much, i'll continue to smile a lot for you guys!" as she said that, minah flashed the fan one of those signature broad smiles. "i hope vanity can smile a lot for me too."
how should i ask out the person i like?
"be genuine and be yourself, that's the most important advice." internally, minah couldn't help but think about how she yet again sounded like an old lady yet again. "if you try too hard and do things that are unlike yourself, that will come back to ruin things later. and if the person you like doesn't like you as the person you are, they aren't worth your time. don't make yourself unhappy over someone that didn't deserve you in the first place."
"oh i love duri's music, he's such a talented artist!" she smiled at the fan sitting across from her. minah wasn't going to waste a perfectly good opportunity to hype up her friend, praise he most definitely deserved. "i get so excited every time he makes a comeback, i hope we can do a song together one day i would enjoy that a lot." she pondered for a second. "also i really like suji's music, she's one of my favorite vocalists ever! her last album was so good i still listen to it almost every day. fine is one of my favorite songs this year definitely."
what song have you been listening to a lot that you would recommend to fans?
"lipstick's hurt locker of course!" she shot the fan a playful wink. "other than that. hmh, i talked about suji's fine before, i really like that song. silhouette's kill bill is really cool as well. oh and biyu's heart attack! i look forward to chroma every month these days!" a bit of not so subtle company support for her upcoming juniors, it was the least she could do. she did really enjoy heart attack anyway. "i think those are some of my favorite songs at the moment, but you should listen to lipstick first and foremost of course!"
what is your most used app?
"my most used app?" that one minah had to think about for a second, she wasn't an avid user of technology really, it was a miracle that she even remembered to post on fancafe or instagram once every while. "i use kakaotalk a lot, mainly to keep in touch with my friends and family. other than that i use youtube a lot, mainly to watch cooking videos, i got some really cool recipe ideas from there and even when i'm not cooking myself they're very satisfying to watch."
what should someone do to win your heart?
"be a kind person! that's always the most important." minah nodded firmly to back up her words. "i think it says a lot about a person when you watch how they treat the people around them, not just their friends or family but also just, strangers in public, waiters at a restaurant, stuff like that. if you're not kind to people you can never win my heart." she shook her head. "that and... i also love flowers. especially if you know a lot about flowers and picked them for a specific reason. that totally makes my heart flutter!"
what do you want for your next birthday?
"my birthday is still a long way away though!" she laughed at the fan. minah wouldn't be turning 30 until next april, plenty of time to ponder about what she wanted for the ocassion. "mhm, i always enjoy more plants to put around my apartment!" soon to be shared apartment with jiah, she should probably discuss with her girlfriend before making such claims. "and then i don't know, mainly toys for lucky and min, my cats are far more spoiled than me at this point and i just want to keep them happy really."
"mhm, that's a hard one. lipstick has done a lot of concepts through the years... i liked a lot of those! especially our retro concepts i really enjoy. but hmh, those aren't exactly new... what would be fun..." she pondered for a second, tapping her finger to her cheek as she did. "maybe a more pure ballad concept? we have some ballads on our albums but we've not really done it much as a title track, i think that could be fun for a change! lipstick has a lot of really good vocalists so i think we would pull it off really well!"
which boy group do you like the most recently?
“ohh that’s a good question...” truth be told, minah kept up with boy groups in a much less capacity than she did with girl groups, they were typically just less up her alley. “i like charm a lot these days, they’re very cute juniors and they all dance so well!” answering with a bc artist was always a safe way to go and out of the bc boy groups, charm probably suited her tastes the closests, especially their early days softer concepts, she kind of missed those from time to time. “so i’m very much rooting for them these days! i hope they will continue to do well in the future.”
what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
“i love fruit flavors.” minah smiled at the fan. “i just think they’re so refreshing for the summer reasons. especially all kinds of berry flavors, strawberry, raspberry, cherry, i could go on for hours! they also pair really well with white chocolate flavored ice cream, or just ice cream as a whole! i also really like mango flavor! that’s not a berry but it’s still really delicious. if you’re looking for something refreshing this summer do try those out!”
what’s the secret behind your good looks?
“my good looks?” minah looked a bit surprised at the fan, blinking slowly a couple of times. it wasn’t like she never got these comments, they were part of being an idol really, but she couldn’t help but be taken by surprise a little bit every time, especially when it was sprung on her so unexepectedly. “ah, thank you, you’re really too kind!” she paused for a second, was she supposed to give a proper answer? or had it been rhetorical? it was only polite to answer right. “i... i think it’s good genes?” she offered. “so i think you have my mother to thank for that.” minah couldn’t help but laugh at how silly she sounded.

can you give some inspiring words for someone going through a hard time?
“keep your head up! you’re stronger than you think, i know that whatever you’re facing right now is very hard on you but you can pull through and come out even stronger.” the fan in front of her looked tired and minah shot them what was hopefully an encouraging smile. “and if things really get too much to shoulder, all by yourself, know you’re not alone. you have people around you who are there to support you and i too will be rooting for you yes? keep that in mind! you got this!”
what words of advice would you give to someone studying for their college exam?
“i hope you’re taking good care of yourself!” minah gently scolded the fan, a young girl, still in her scool uniform, having come to the fansign straight from her academy as she had mentioned. she kind of reminded minah of minji... if her sister had actually put effort in her grades. “it’s very important to get enough hours of sleep, if you don’t you’ll won’t remember what you learned as well! and please eat good healthy meals and drink enough water. you have to take good care of yourself to do well on your exams.” that was a bit too much scolding probably, oops. “i can tell you’re working hard, keep up the good work yes? you’re gonna ace these exams.”

what place do you want to travel to the most?
“well that depends, if it’s for tours everywhere! i want to meet all our vanity all over the world!” minah laughed, making large movements with her arms. “but if i had to pick a location to tour, maybe south america? we haven’t really been there yet i’d love to perform in some places we haven’t been yet, that would be a dream come true.” she smiled warmly. “but if we are talking for a vacation-” that sounded nice, minah could use one. “then maybe iceland? i heard the nature there is beautiful and there is a lot of peace and quiet around there. it would be the perfect place to relax, i’d like to go there one day.”
what language would you like to learn?
“i’d like to get better at japanese.” minah nodded thoughtfully. “lipstick promotes in japan quite frequently, i’d like to get better at the language to communicate with our fans there even better, that would be lovely.” she smiled at the fan. “english is a very important language these days too, we have schedules in america and such more and more often these days so learning english is very important too. though japanese and english i’m both working on whenever i can! slowly but surely.” she laughed quietly. “for myself i think i’d like to learn french one day maybe, it’s just such a romantic language. i’d like to be able to speak french.”
what is the first thing you think of when someone mentions your fans?
“our vanity are so loyal~” minah cooed affecionately, she had seen the male fan sitting across from her a few times, not just recently but sprawled out over the years. he had always seem pleasant, nothing that stood out particularly much but he was always enthusiastic and friendly. “we’ve been around for such a long time and a lot of our vanity have been with us for years at this point. so every time someone mentions them i feel proud that they’re still with us, i hope you will continue to support us for many more years.”
what is your favorite movie/book you’ve seen/read recently?
“i watched ‘a quiet place part two’ recently.” minah wasn’t sure if a horror movie was the kind of thing bc would consider as a welcome part of her company crafted image but truly, minah didn’t watch a lot of movies and it was the first one to come too mind. “it was such a thrilling movie, i had chills the entire time. if you like scary films i totally recommend checking it out. but it’s definitely not for the weak of heart so be careful, i warned you!”
what are your recent wishes?
“hmh, i think most of all, i want to be happy these days.” minah nodded, deep in thought before focussing back on the fan sitting in front of her. “and for my friends and family to be happy as well. and our lovely vanity of course.” she smiled for a second. “i also hope to stay together with lipstick for a long time. i’m so proud of all of us for doing our own thing but i hope we can keep coming together for a long time too. those are my biggest wishes right now.”
"he needs to get along with my cats!" minah laughed, letting the joke distract her from the fact she internally cringed at having to describe her ideal type as strictly masculine. "i like someone who is responsible, who i can trust to be there for me, i like being able to rely on people and have them feel like they can rely on me. and i think just... someone who's sweet and kind, someone my mother would like if i were to introduce them."
what job would you want if you weren’t an idol?
"i would have loved to be teacher!" minah smiled, pushing the decorative glasses higher up the bridge of her nose. "i have a teacher look to me don't i?" she asked the fan. "i think i would like to teach high school level maybe. that would have been nice." she pondered her options for a second. "or maybe if more in the realm of music being a vocal or a music teacher would be fun, i'd like to teach people about that!"
what is a hobby you’d like to pick up?
"i would like to learn embroidery!" minah nodded lightly. "i know a little bit of knitting and sewing so i think it would be fun to delve a little deeper into something that is kind of alike to that yet different?" a beat of silence as she thought about it some more. "when i was younger i used to play tennis from time to time, that would be fun to pick up again too at some point if i can find the time for it. and a tennis partner, that too. who knows."
"i really want to release a full album!" minah smiled excitedly, her expression not for a second betraying that she already had said album at the ready, to be announced very, very soon. "other than that i'd love to do some more musicals and maybe collab with some more different artists. for next year... i'd like to celebrate my ten years together with lipstick. i think that's my biggest priority for next year, reaching that milestone."

"where do you want to go?" minah reflected the question to the fan, earning her a playful whine of protest causing her to laugh. "okay, okay, sorry. hmh... how do you like busan? going to the seaside could be fun! i know the city well and i know all the good places to eat, that would be nice no? do you like seafood? or ice cream perhaps?"
which girl group do you like the most recently?
"i'm still a very big fan of bee, i've always been!" minah hummed. in general, she felt most partial to the groups that had been in the industry for a while like she had been, not that the younger girls weren't doing great from herself but truly, the older groups deserved a little love. "i always looked up to them as a trainee and they're still just as cool as they were back in the day! they're having a comeback really really soon so let's cheer them on together!"
what is your happiness level these days on a scale from 0 to 100?
"when i get to see vanity, my happiness is 100 of course!" she smiled at the fan. gosh, that was far too cheesy truly, it helped that minah was feeling really good these days, it made it easier to be so shameless for fans. "no but more accurately.... mhm 90 probably? it's so nice to be promoting and performing again, it gives me a lot of energy and happiness, because of that i can feel extra good these days."

it was nothing fancy, just the dimly lit backdrop of her bedroom, the little corner where she had set up her desk space, changed into comfortable clothes and stripped of most of her make-up as she sat and greeted the fans. but it was something at least, a moment minah wanted to take to interact with them on today of all days.

the comment drew a soft chuckle from minah, knees pulled up to her chest and resting her chin atop of them, curled up into herself comfortably. “ah, it’s been a while since i last did a live no?” her eyes crinkling as the comment section was immediately flooded with words of confirmation. “i guess it has been in. i’m sorry vanity, but we can spend some time together tonight, yes?”
again overwhelming positivity, reminding minah as to why she liked doing these lives every once in a while. she wasn’t one to do them frequently, she wasn’t that kind of idol, but she did enjoy them as a once every while thing.
“have you all been having a nice day? i saw a lot of nice hashtags pop up for lipstick today, they really warmed my heart.” she smiled at the camera, though lipstick had been busy with hurt locker promotions themselves, it was nice to see their fans did have the time to celebrate.
minah leaned closer to the screen to be able to read the comments better. “did we get to celebrate with lipstick? we did all go out for dinner together after our schedules. that was very nice but apart from that we’re very busy preparing all our performances.”
she shifted back in her seat again a bit, finding a more comfortable position. “are you guys enjoying hurt locker? it’s been a while since we made a summer comeback like this.” minah wasn’t a huge fan of most of their summer songs but she wouldn’t tell her fans that, there was no need for it.
“i see people want to know if there are any fun tmi’s from the music video filming hmh…” minah stretched herself out, pondering the question for a moment. “i got to drive for the video? did you guys see that? i think hyeju did too actually. but i got to drive this really cool red jeep. it was so much fun it almost makes me want to get a car like that for myself. maybe in a different color though, the red might be a bit much to drive around in.” minah had genuinely been looking up jeep’s after the mv shoot, she probably wouldn’t make such a big purchase any time soon but who knew, perhaps in the future.
her eyes flitted back to the comment section, scanning for a new topic to talk about.
what music have you been listening to lately?
“oh! that’s a good question! what’s in my playlists these days…” she picked up her phone from where it was resting on her desk to scroll through her music library. “mhm. i liked duri’s new single a lot, ‘goodbye’ is such a beautiful song. i also liked silhouette’s comeback, they all looked so cool in the video.” another moment of silence as she looked for more songs. “ah! wish’ latest comeback too of course! ‘la vie en rose’ is such a good song. i’d totally recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t yet.” she concluded, putting her phone to the side again as another question caught her eye.
can you sing us some of your favorite songs?
“do you guys want me to sing?” she could hardly finish the sentence before the comments exploded with enthusiastic agreements and song recommendations.
“well then, please send me some songs you want to hear, yeah? and i’ll see what i can do.”
a collection of minah’s favorite lipstick b-sides. with now nine years to their name, lipstick has built up a vast repetoir of songs that belong to them. not all of them are great, minah won’t lie about that, her own tastes in musics and own wishes differ vastly from the general vision bc seems to have for lipstick, making her emotions to a lot of lipstick songs range from lukewarm at best to absolutely despising them at the worst. but it’s not all negative, there are plenty of songs she enjoys on a casual level and a select few that she truly treasures as being good songs to her own standards, her absolute favorite lipstick songs though they often don’t get the recognition they deserve.
