during marshal training last year they emphasized over and over again how dangerous it can be for a marshal to touch an f1 car that's "live" aka might have electricity going through it. these buttons on an f1 car aren't an inconvenience that teams have to add just bc the FIA said so. they're there for a reason. the reason is that intervention marshals can safely switch the car off and then put it in neutral to move it. we literally cannot touch a car if it's "live" or if we don't know its status. and even then you've got to wear heavy rubber gloves while handling f1 cars specifically BECAUSE of the risk of electrocution.
for teams to tape over these buttons for "aerodynamic purposes" or whatever bullshit is dangerous as fuck actually. the document mentions that marshals can't remove the tape without a tool which ofc is added risk and more wasted time. not to mention the insane effort of trying to manipulate those tools with those fucking rubber gloves (that we are not allowed to touch a car without). and considering how we've had several incidents this weekend already so far (and we haven't even got to quali yet) it's kind of batshit to make it even harder for marshals to do their job. and tbh "aerodynamics" sounds like a bullshit excuse and the team admitted it'll make marshals' job harder so like... why did you do it then?
most marshals work on a volunteer basis. we either don't get paid or get paid a very small amount of money. we do it for the love of the sport. we do NOT do it so that teams can risk our wellbeing with these stupid ass decisions for these stupid ass reasons. mclaren should've been SUSPENDED for this imo bc that's the only thing that'll make these teams listen. these fines are a slap on the wrist for them. they don't give a fuck. like literally we were told several times we need to look out for ourselves and each other because FIA and the teams won't do it. they already make intervention marshals go out on live tracks because they hate red flagging no matter how warranted it is. this bullshit is just more endangerment for no good reason. fucking hell.

Deadass scanned an entire page (that just announced Alain's transfer to Renault for the 1981 season) just for this photo because, I mean, look at it
Alain blink twice if the Régie is holding you hostage and your entire family is kept prisoner inside the A442-B's cockpit
I missed his birthday, but he's in Monaco this weekend and better late than never, so - an interview of John Watson from Auto-Hebdo issue 146, from January 11th, 1979, named "John Watson: A Brand New Motivation".
I don't know why they chose to print it out on yellow pages, especially isnce while you can't see it yourselves they're glossy paper and not the cheaper newspaper they used for the bulk of magazines back then, but it's got cool colour photos so, y'know.
Considering the interview credits Maurice Hamilton, there may be an existing English version of this one, but in the meantime and until someone finds it, you can always have the French translation!

NIGEL MANSELL d r a m a t i c a l l y retiring from the 1994 INDIANAPOLIS 500 || [x]
“[Dennis] Vitolo’s car ended up on top of Nigel’s, on the infield stationary. And Nigel started getting out, and then a marshal arrived and pulled him out. And Nigel was never one to under-dramatise such events. He sort of collapsed into… [has to stop to wheeze laugh] … into the arms of the marshal, and they [still laughing] rolled around on the grass. And Nigel eventually lay prone, and they had to send a stretcher for him. Very, very, very dramatic. Made up for a very undramatic race, I guess. But he was fine.” - Richard Williams, talking in the And Colosally That's HIstory podcast episode Indy 500: Europe's impact on the great American race
Riccardo Paletti getting interviewed alongside Enzo Osella, somewhere in 1982.
R: Well, it's a show. It's all a show, and we live in it. I: And you have a place in the spotlight. R: I'm not looking for a place in the spotlight, I'm looking for my own world. I: And you think your world is here? R: I want to create it here.

BRUCE MCLAREN, 1960s
“When he [McLaren] built a new car as soon as it was on the jig, he would get into it, and pretend to drive it, and make engine noises, and steer it and go “woOoOoOoOoOoAH boys, this is going to be quick!” And then we’d go, “Yeah, yeah, yes.” Really good fun.” - ALASTAIR CALDWELL, McLaren mechanic and later team manager
