DIDIER PIRONI playing around with a 1950s car, 1980
Patrick Depailler with a photo of himself hang-gliding on the wall; the very same hobby that caused him to be gravely injured after he crashed into some mountains. He nearly lost both of his legs (but fortunately recovered and continued to race).
Ken Tyrrell has a clause in his contract forbidding him to participate in most of his dangerous hobbies outside of racing, including skiing and motorcycling. After the accident, Patrick, with his own form of hilariously odd logic, blamed Tyrrell that he have been able to cope if he'd had more experience - which he would have had if only Tyrrell hadn't stopped him.

DIDIER PIRONI, 1980s
To, uh... acknowledge the existence of the 2026 Monaco GP (which was a succession of bad decisions and also crashouts. literally), have something just as funny in retrospect: a section supposedly about the then-upcoming 1981 Monaco GP which is a bit about Monaco and mostly about Ligier, from Auto-Hebdo issue 268, dated May 28th, 1981.
It speaks for itself, I think. Some info about the Monaco circuit and previous editions, and also some stuff about Ligier as team. And, like, their TP and of course hit Tumblr star Gérard Ducarouge.
It didn't age too badly, because Ligier did score a podium, but you know, it's not what people remember from Monaco 81, go figure why.

during marshal training last year they emphasized over and over again how dangerous it can be for a marshal to touch an f1 car that's "live" aka might have electricity going through it. these buttons on an f1 car aren't an inconvenience that teams have to add just bc the FIA said so. they're there for a reason. the reason is that intervention marshals can safely switch the car off and then put it in neutral to move it. we literally cannot touch a car if it's "live" or if we don't know its status. and even then you've got to wear heavy rubber gloves while handling f1 cars specifically BECAUSE of the risk of electrocution.
for teams to tape over these buttons for "aerodynamic purposes" or whatever bullshit is dangerous as fuck actually. the document mentions that marshals can't remove the tape without a tool which ofc is added risk and more wasted time. not to mention the insane effort of trying to manipulate those tools with those fucking rubber gloves (that we are not allowed to touch a car without). and considering how we've had several incidents this weekend already so far (and we haven't even got to quali yet) it's kind of batshit to make it even harder for marshals to do their job. and tbh "aerodynamics" sounds like a bullshit excuse and the team admitted it'll make marshals' job harder so like... why did you do it then?
most marshals work on a volunteer basis. we either don't get paid or get paid a very small amount of money. we do it for the love of the sport. we do NOT do it so that teams can risk our wellbeing with these stupid ass decisions for these stupid ass reasons. mclaren should've been SUSPENDED for this imo bc that's the only thing that'll make these teams listen. these fines are a slap on the wrist for them. they don't give a fuck. like literally we were told several times we need to look out for ourselves and each other because FIA and the teams won't do it. they already make intervention marshals go out on live tracks because they hate red flagging no matter how warranted it is. this bullshit is just more endangerment for no good reason. fucking hell.

I missed his birthday, but he's in Monaco this weekend and better late than never, so - an interview of John Watson from Auto-Hebdo issue 146, from January 11th, 1979, named "John Watson: A Brand New Motivation".
I don't know why they chose to print it out on yellow pages, especially isnce while you can't see it yourselves they're glossy paper and not the cheaper newspaper they used for the bulk of magazines back then, but it's got cool colour photos so, y'know.
Considering the interview credits Maurice Hamilton, there may be an existing English version of this one, but in the meantime and until someone finds it, you can always have the French translation!
