Quiet & Creative

I never even knew I had a creative, artistic side until the beginning of this year, when I said I wanted to start a small business that I could manage from home. To be honest, the journey started with going after financial rewards, not out of greed, but merely so I could help my husband with our income, while also taking care of our home. What I discovered was even though this was my original motivation, the many moments of stress and depression that I experienced led to the astonishing discovery that I only felt truly happy when I was able to create beautiful things. And so I’ve slowly let go of the pressure to sell, and started to embrace, albeit with much tension between the desire for artistic freedom and financial rewards, creating for its own sake.

I have to keep reminding myself that we have all that we need- not because we’re rich (but compared to the rest of the world, Americans are!), but because we’ve chosen to live a simple life (no car ownership, minimal personal belongings, taking joy in simple pleasures). This lifestyles frees me to pursue my creative projects without much financial burden and that is a great blessing.
