A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, blissfully unaware of the woman’s true intentions, still believing he had done a good thing so she didn’t leave her pretty bracelet behind. “It is no problem. Something as pretty should stay with its owner.” Especially when it had sentimental value. He knew what it was like to lose something that meant so much, and wouldn’t want anybody to go through it if he could help.
“May I?” he asked, offering a hand so he could put the bracelet on her delicate wrist.
flora doesn’t know what she hopes to achieve by this interaction, but her heart is beating rapidly as he speaks. her delicate fingers feel stiff, her back assuming an exaggeratedly perfect posture as she covertly studies his features. “it’s been with the family for generations,” she says in one breath, though it is a lie and one she doesn’t mean to tell. in truth she had bought it with her very first pay check, but his presence made her nervous and the lie had been easy to let slip, something to say rather than just staring dumbly. she mentally puts herself together, giving him a grateful smile before offering him her wrist, perfectly manicured fingers on display.
“there has to be some way to thank you,” she smiles, appearing much more composed than she feels. her eyes dart around the street to find an excuse to extend the interaction and it doesn’t take long before her eyes land on a cute little restaurant she’s dined at on occasion. “you must let me buy your lunch,” she insists.
