aint it funny how tundras are more closely related to ridgebacks or spirals than they are to gaolers..
banescales can only breed with banescales, and gaolers can only breed with gaolers. this implies they are distinct species which are far enough removed from each other to not be genetically compatible
compare this to modern breeds which can all interbreed and produce viable offspring- they areĀ ābreedsā not species, like dogs- e.g. a chihuahua can breed with a bulldog. that means that a tundra is more closely related to any other modern breed than it is to a gaoler, despite looking more similar
what i imagine is that the ancientĀ ābreedsā species were developed very independently by the dragon gods with no collaborative input. then when modern breeds were created, the gods agreed upon a basal dragonĀ āmodelā, which they then each took and made their preferred morphological modifications to (i.e. the moderns are all the same dragon, just with differences in how they look)
