Smiles... the thing that brings me back to being human. I'd like to talke about seizures; I do not always smile during a seizure, but sometimes I laugh and make jokes if I'm conscious enough... I'll throw a peace sign if my hand is cramping in a weird way. Or tell the scared man in the elevator that I'm just a mermaid out of water and I'll be dome flopping like a fish once I get back to the water....... often times, people don't joke back, because they are scared... but so am I, and I am trying to cope too, so I joke. Is it bad timing or terrible puns? Absolutely! But that is how I just keep swimming. Having memory resets afterwards or waking up in the garden or chicken coop not knowing who my family is... that still happens, rarely, but it does. Mainly when I am sick (like really sick with Covid) or a family member dies and there is stress, quite literally, it comes out through my body now. It never did before my Traumatic Brain Injury, I never had seizures, I'd tune out when overwhelmed, maybe have a moment of needing to calm, but never seizures and memory loss... this is still a challenge I am learning to cope with daily. The challenge of forgetting to eat, and not physically feeling hungry, forgetting to pee and ..... must I explain that one? Forgetting to get dressed and just wandering half clothed or without any. It is a challenge, one I often smile through. Smiling, though it does not take away the pain, can create a sense of ease to find what or who does make me smile. Moments in time, whether I remember fully or not, moments that are truly smilebringers, the ones that make you pause and thing, wow this is happening. The reality of handling the farm on my own is a lot on my brain; I love farm life, it is lovely, however the cognitive functions and tasks needed and memory for sequences and tasks can be overwhelming. I take moments like this to share that, while I love my life, there are invisible struggles that people do not see. When one faces gluten intolerance, testing out options is a huge part of life... I know I can handle gluten in small amounts or every now and again... however trouble strikes... so my pondering on America's farming practices came into question; is it truly the gluten? Or, is it the way that the wheat is processed? Almost all wheat has been bleached or ground up with additional ingredients to keep breads or pastries fresh. It seems extreme to grow my own wheat just because I miss desserts, but once a pastry chef, always a pastry chef... truly testing my limits on this one, I've not gardened my own Wheat before... so far so good... and after two hours of threashing, I have around 1/4 cup of Wheat Berries... which will probably translate to about 2 tablespoons of flour... so at this rate... patience is a viture. Only about 9 to 13 hours left of threashing depending on how many times I drop a few or berrie harvest per Wheatgrass. Then... I have to grind it into flour! This is amazing. Yesterday starts a new chapter of life full of possible adventures. I have had my same Kia Spectra since I was 16, as it was a gift from my Grandma Midge, I've done my very best to keep it going strong. For my memories, this little cutie has been snuggling me for quite some time now, and I feel we are bonding. This is Electra, she is a Silkie chick... which means she will stay fluffy and not quite feathery. Her breed of chicken lays wonderful eggs, it seems like she will most likely lay white, but her ear skin (used to detect what egg shell color they will have) hasn't quite fully developed to identify yet. When she is older, she will lay eggs daily, producing an unfertalized egg, that my family and I will turn into delectable dishes of nutrients. He is the sleepiest pup in all the land! Peaceful, and chill. Watching him snooze brings me a sense of calm, like I needn't worry about life. Not that I do take that to heart and stop worrying as I should, maybe a little... I try, nonetheless, to sink my eyes on the pretty moments of life... stop worrying... and think about how it could all go right. Doctors days have left me drained, yet again. I take these little moments to pause and think what will best serve me and the life of peace I am pursuing... treating myself to vacation, resting and restoring, feeling rekindled with my body after many 'a countless tests, exams, and treatments, therapies, times of busy that flood my senses. Rest, I tell myself, rest. Allow oneself to take a break. I haven't shared the last few doctor appointments as they have been very triggering emotionally for me, I've taken time to process. Sharing my doctoral endeavors is mainly why I started this Insta, sharing the reality of finding out why I have seizures now as an adult and never did before; I had a head injury and was misdiagnosed and had allergic reactions to anticonvulsant medication. This is why. Why do I post, share, talk? To give hope to those who are just finding out they have seizures, or just hit their head and feel confused, to provide a safe place to feel understood by someone who went through it themselves.
