ok one last post since I’m here
So yes, tumbly’s algorithm is broken and you still have things to worry about even if you only post sfw things. I don’t have a lot of faith in them improving this since their reaction to the rampant porn bots and pedophiles on the site was to do nothing until they got booted from app stores and then ban porn all together. If they’d gotten booted for harboring too much white supremacy, they’d probably just ban all discussion of race lmao.
I actually did go through all of my posts on this blog because I was only active for about a year. Of my flagged posts, about 172 were sfw and 68 were actually nsfw. I contested the few that were originally mine. Many of my nsfw posts were not flagged despite being tagged nsfw.
But what’s more upsetting to me than their terrible algorithm is that they’re doing that dumb thing in American culture where we say we’re being “safe” as long as we get rid of all the nudity and sex. Violence? Oh yeah, totally safe. Who cares.
I really cannot stand any platform or organization that disallows consensual sex and nudity, perfectly healthy parts of being human that almost everyone will see and experience at some point in their lives, while allowing depictions of gore and violence, the likes of which hopefully few people will ever have to see in real life. All under the guise of being safe or protecting children. Fuck off with that.
also machine learning needs like another 20 years in the oven before being used for anything particularly serious or controversial, thanks for coming to my ted talk
