He had been on a roll. His hand flowed as the page all came together; blocking, then buildings, and then finally, the characters themselves, all in a beautiful flow of ink-splattered fingers and pristine white paper. His eyes were widened, his pupils dilated fully as Rohan worked.
Screaming brought his hand to a stop before the mark could be messed up. His pupils retracted to a normal position, and his head whipped around, a scowl written deep inside of his mouth. His eyebrows scrunched, bringing his headband down with them.
âWhat.â He growled unhappily, blowing lightly on the page before the other could ruin it with their paws.Â
âWell, you looked like you were sitting here all alone, so I thought Iâd come say hi!â Either not registering or not worried about the otherâs tone of voice, Osomatsu leaned in further, looking greatly surprised as he caught sight of the page.
âWow, did you draw this manga all by yourself?â His eyes snapping back up towards his interlocutor, Osomatsu tilted his head slightly as he took a long look at the man in front of him. âWhen I think of manga artists, I kind of imagine people more like Akatsuka-sensei...â This guy certainly could not look anything less like his own creator, with both the crazy hair and how young he looked.
Ichimatsu isnât even surprised, when Osomatsu simply takes it at face value and doesnât see any kind of possible, thinly-veiled intent behind it. (Then again, Osomatsu didnât see the intent behind much anything.) He was wondering if Osomatsu would remember the events from back home, (The-One-Karamatsu-Should-Never-Speak-of-Ever-If-He-Wants-to-Fucking-Live), and if offering the same treats heâd so impulsively andâ stupidly stolen would strike him as some kind of odd. Maybe heâd even realized, back then, that the whole thing was actually happening and that heâd been simply playing along (Osomatsu was stupid, butâ you couldnât really be sure) and that said offering would prod him to comment on such a thing.
Apparently, though, he didnât: only looked surprised and happy at the idea of offered snacks, and so Ichimatsu spits a scoff from between his teeth, looking faintly irritated, and turns away from the sound of joyous munching and thanks as he thinks about how heâs going to have to buy some more later, at the rate his older brotherâs eating them now. ESP Kitty meows from atop a box by his heels, and lowers his head to take a nap.
Ichimatsuâs gone to petting the tabby, now, pulling his fingers through her rather well-kempt fur, pausing to give her a little itch behind her left ear; she seemed to enjoy that one, as she plops onto her side and flails her paws at the sky, pink belly of soft fur unraveling. Ichimatsu lifts his hand, warily, in case she got feisty and wanted to take a nip. Meanwhile, to Osomatsu he says, âFeeding the cats. And I know. I just happened to buy the snacks here. I donât want to walk all the way to somewhere else.â
And then the munching falters. Ichimatsu looks up, a bit startled by the sudden silence with a couple of blinks, and sees Osomatsuâs expression before frowning up at it.
âWhat?â he says flatly, a bit warily.
âOh, uh,â Osomatsu fumbled a few seconds longer, briefly lapsing into silence, his gaze shifting between his brother and the two cats as he focused on finishing the food in his hands, using that as an excuse to stall. There just really was no good way to put this, and it wasnât like he frequently went to Ichimatsu for issues like this - or any issues at all - anyway. In fact, how would he go about telling any brother that he felt like there were weird blanks forming in his memory, not only in regards to his siblings but also other people in general?
âItâs just...â he started, before clearing his throat slightly, âI mean, isnât this place just super weird, Ichimatsu?â Pushing away from the rail, Osomatsu crouched down next to his brother, staring at him intently as though wondering whether he would suddenly morph into someone different, or just disappear altogether. âTell me, whenâs the last time you remember seeing me, ever?â
He knew, in the back of his mind, that that probably wasnât the best question when it came to trying not to trouble his brothers about the whole memory thing, but the scary part was that he wasnât even sure what his own answer would be, if the situation were reversed. Even if he hadnât seen Ichimatsu in this city before - as much as that fleeting edge of a memory suggests he had - he wasnât even completely sure when the last time he saw his brother back home was. Sure, itâs been a month and a half since heâd gotten here, but he had expected memories of home to stick more than they currently did, right? Apparently not.
⌠|| REFLECTION FROM THE LOOKING GLASS.
⼠|| @firstbornmatsu
The demon scoffed to himself. Today, normal as ever - humans were far too wimpy to even take a step into this place. He expected that, and began to gnaw lightly on his pointed fingernails, out of what he could call complete boredom. Or what anybody could call it. Who wouldnât be lonely given these circumstances?
Being a demon certainly did have its downsides. All of the other devils down there in Hell, Osomatsu deemed bullies. (He wasnât wrong, though, really! Rather, he didnât think he was wrongâŚ.) Ruthless predators who ate humans every other day. That would make others think that he was a bully, too. How assumptive. Personally, Osomatsu thought humans were kind of cute, although a little stupid - that latter opinion tied into that of their âassumptiveâ trait.
He let his wings drift in the light breeze, lidding his eyes a little exaggeratedly; dramatically, that is. The demon was glad he let the wind play with them, because that allowed him to see something that really caught his attention. Much like an alert dog, he raised his once-slouching back; widening his red eyes; stilling his tail.
The sight was all thrilling, surprising, and very, very unexpected.
Osomatsu rubbed his eyes, blinking them repeatedly, trying to convince himself that he was nothing but merely hallucinating. Or dreaming. But yet the figure still stood there - the figure that resembled him, minus the demon parts. But still - what the hell? This was like his human counterpart⌠he could say that with more than just ease. Anybody would say that.Â
Or⌠no. Maybe the person could be some sort of exorcist. Trying to trick him, trying to confuse him; once given that theyâd pour holy water on his wings, chop off his tailâŚ! That was probably the most plausible answer, seeing as someone who looked exactly like him, out here, meeting so indirectly and randomly - that, that was stupid. (Destiny probably wasnât real. Who believed in that stuff?) With that thought, immediately it became the only one, the only answer he considered. Osomatsu tensed his shoulders, snorting as he did, with what resembled a smirk more than anything else.
âOh, little human,â he mused to himself, as if trying to tone his voice for when he would approach his prey. âHm. âWhy is it that you have the same face as me? Surely that isnât a coincidence.ââ Even in the midst of the hunt, he let himself chuckle, shielded under his hand. âI like the sound of that!â he cooed playfully to himself, trying to prevent his earlier snicker from turning into a blatant cackle.Â
Osomatsu took his every step with a sly caution, his red eyes narrowed, fixated on his victim. It was hard for him to be seen in any case, even though it was in the early morningtime. The forest was naturally pitch-black, seldom did it let even the tiniest slivers of light in. But he took notice that his human doppelgänger had approached the light - wow, they were at the entrance of the place? He hadnât noticed, whoops - and so maybe this hunt would be a little more difficult.
But given that the human was off-guard; unaware, perhaps it wouldnât be as difficult as perceived. Judging again, he realized that all it took was for him to slink up to the otherâs back, and block out the light by spreading his wings⌠how dramatic!, but it certainly would add tension. All more fun.
The mortal hadnât noticed him yet. That was good.
The demon scoffed, first, but then let it roll into a quiet laugh. Grasping the otherâs shoulders, he lightly dug his pointed fingertips into the humanâs clothing. He slowly waved his tail back and forth, as if he was pleased, awaiting to see his preyâs reaction. âLittle huuuman,â Osomatsu purred, bringing out the latter word. âWhatâre you doing here? How especially suspicious, seeing how if we gaze into each otherâs eyes, we see our own faces⌠itâs like a looking-glass.
âWhat do you say?â
Huh. He didnât even know there were forests on the edge of his town, much less that heâd end up here after taking what he thought was a detour on his way back home from the convenience store. Sure, it was almost dinner time, but come on, beer and dirty magazines were staple items in his life! Just as important as any meal, and worth heading out for.
...And apparently, also worth getting lost for, as Osomatsu was quickly realizing. How exactly two blocks had become âall the way to the edge of town,â as well as how exactly he managed to get lost on the way back from a place heâd thought he knew like the back of his hand, the eldest Matsuno had no idea. He gave a sigh as his stomach growled. âIâm hungry... Maybe Iâll get home if I turn around and go straight back,â he muttered to himself, turning away from the dark forest and heading back out into the light. Why exactly heâd chosen to go any distance into the forest in the first place was also not something he was giving much thought to.
Though, now that he knew there was a huge, dark forest here, maybe heâd take his brothers exploring one day or something. This place was as good as any for a hangout, and coming with them would make it much more fun than being here alone--
Ow. Osomatsu flinched a bit as he felt several sharp points pressing against his shoulder, interrupting his train of thought, but relaxed when he heard what the person behind him was saying. Even though he hadnât heard the other approach, it was very obviously one of his brothers coming out to find him, and then trying to scare him after theyâve succeeded, right? Edge of forest at dusk, the whole âlittle humanâ thing, ha ha. Sure, if the situation were reversed, heâd totally pull the same prank, but that doesnât change the fact that it was super weak. Not to mention rude, because whatever his brother was using to simulate fingernails was going to rip actual holes in his hoodie. Osomatsu crossed his arms, speaking without turning around for a moment.
âOk, if this is your idea of a joke, let me, as the oldest brother, tell you that I wouldnât give it a score of more than--â He finally turned. And promptly fell silent, the bag in his hand falling to the ground in a rustle of plastic and clinking of glass.
Yeah, this wasnât one of his brothers. The whole demon getup with the wings and the tail, sure, they had costumes of that at home, but said appendages were currently moving, which was not normal by any stretch of imagination. The face that looked back was also his - not one of his brothersâ, he could tell even in this dim light - not to mention this guy had his voice, now that he really focused on it, and this made no sense at all. Osomatsu shuffled back several steps.
âW-whoa, what are you?â he asked, âYour face looks just like mine!â Which was pretty much what the other guy said, only more eloquently. You know, if this was one of his brothersâ idea of a prank, maybe he would give them a higher score after all, for all the effort that went into it. âWhat, are you Todomatsu?â he leaned in a bit despite his earlier apprehension, focusing on the otherâs face to look for any telling details. Something this thorough would probably be the brain child of his youngest brother. Who was, fittingly, demonic enough for this outfit anyway.

Any of his bros, really ;w; The ratio of âdegree to which Oso wants/needs to hang out with his brothersâ to âdegree to which said brothers want/need to hang out with Osoâ is probably fairly high, and heâs almost always the one to go âhey letâs play together!!!â Heâs also not prone to be the one to walk out of a conversation first, no matter whether itâs an argument or parting on amicable terms. For all that heâs the eldest, he really is a rather clingy sibling.

Put a symbol in my ask for a character thatâŚ
â - my muse wants to know better
There are many new people in this city compared to back home, but when it really comes down to it, Osoâs answer is going to be his brothers again! For this one, Iâd say heâd go with either Ichi or Juushi. The former because heâs so overtly cagey about things, and the latter because⌠well⌠/gestures at the last segment of todayâs ep like??? There are many moments he acknowledges he knows almost nothing about Juushi, and itâs not like heâs the best at explaining /more gestures @ McHorny >8(
â - my muse likes to pester / talk to
EVERYONE like this one isnât just all his brothers but also every single person that he is acquainted with. Iâve said this before, but Oso really likes being with people; even though he might prefer being with his brothers sometimes (Iâve noticed a few weeks ago when stuff started getting really irl busy on my end, I had a hard time getting Oso to do any replies with anyone who wasnât a brother), heâs usually happy with just having someone to chat with.
⍠- my muse likes to get into antics with
Oof, when he was young, this was Choro for sure, but now⌠well, itâd probably still be him just by precedence, but heâs just such a wet blanket about things sometimes now that his other brothers are climbing. Totty would be almost up there with Choro if he participated willingly and wholeheartedly more often. Juushi too if he were more accurate with his octopus hold targets. Ichi if he werenât too busy playing with (and turning into) cats all the time. Kara if he didnât try (and fail) so hard to make everything look cool.
âŚYeah, his options are depressingly more limited now that he and his brothers are grown up, arenât they?
ooc--{{In about ten minutes Iâll be boarding a flight back to California. Iâll finally return to the land of GMT-8 as is my natural habitat *v* Feel free to send me more symbols, and Iâll get to them (along with all the replies I owe) after I get home! Thanks and have fun!!}}
â - makes my muse wish they could fix their relationship
Osomatsuâs way too optimistic about all his relationships, platonic or otherwise, to actually have someone in mind when faced with this question. If he really, really thought about it on a melancholy day, though... someone does come to mind, actually.
Choromatsu.
How close they were when they were little, how many antics they spearheaded as a team... Now his third brother is all âwe have to get jobs!â and âbe responsible as the eldest sibling!â with that high and mighty attitude... Well, not that he was that different. For all his talk, he didnât have a job yet either. Hell, Todomatsu got farther than he did. Osomatsu didnât know whether that thought should bring him more annoyance or relief. Both, probably.
And besides, the correct term still wasnât âfix,â exactly. There was nothing wrong with what they had now! He was still able to tease his little brother mercilessly, and Choromatsuâs reactions were always fun to see. There were still many moments when the two of them could talk to each other about anything, from the most serious to the most inane topics.
But just... sometimes itâd be cool if things didnât have to change at all, even as they grew up, right?

Osomatsu instinctively retaliated by bringing his hands together and squirting a jet of it back at Karamatsu, before spinning off in another direction, raising his arms as though he were really on some amusement park ride instead of... this thing. It was more than a little bit weird, yeah, if you really thought about it, but he was really having too much fun to care. Except... wait. Now it was getting a little warmer - and what was with the strangely orange-ish glow up ahead? Oh... oh.
Holy crap, it was on fire--!
âWhoa!â Osomatsu tilted himself to the right, barely avoiding the spreading flames as he spun in place a few times, just managing to come to a sitting stop before any part of his body got caught in the flames. Wow, this looked less fun. More painful, and not in the sense his second brother usually brings to mind either.
Wait, speaking of which... where did Karamatsu go again?
Just so happens to conveniently slip by Osomatsu. The lube is too good, heâs sliding out of control. Help me, brother.Â
âKaramatsu! Youâre already in it? Well, I canât let you have all the fun to yourself, right?â
Instead of offering any help at all, Osomatsu elects to jump in right after him, deliberately ramming straight into his brother to increase his momentum. Come on, what did you expect?
âA slip ân slide made out of what?â
Oh hey, that actually sounded kind of familiar, as though something similar has appeared in his life before. Not to mention fun! âWhoa, Iâm definitely checking this out!â
@firstbornmatsu
Heâs stuck in a new trashy city, living in a new trashy district, which is rather fitting. Orâ thatâs what they call it, at least. Beta, or whatever, as if theyâre cool for naming places after Greek letters, and that naming them all fancy would somehow make up for how messed up this all is. If they really wanted to be smart they shouldâve put him in Alpha, or Delta, but theyâre probably too stupid to do that, anyway, though itâs not like Ichimatsuâs complaining any.
Anyway.
Heâs got ESP Kitty with him, at least, and even though heâs lost that weird psychic ability of his and canât spit out that bullshit anymore, Ichimatsu canât help but feel grateful for the company. With the cat in tow, heâs managed to find the same snacks heâd fed to the strays back home to offer to the strays here, too. Maybe strike up some friendship with the the same way heâs done it at home, and make living here even at least little more bearable.
Ichimatsuâs waggling a snack at one of themâ a small long-haired tabby with striking green eyesâ when he hears someone approaching. Blinking, he looks up.
He frowns.
âOsomatsu,â he says, bluntly. He holds up the bag to his older brother, and rattles the snacks inside, to draw attention to it. âDo you want some?â
It wasnât often that Osomatsu ventured out all the way into the district farthest away from the one he lived in, especially given its reputation of pollution. He did frequent Sector 1, however, and on this particular day he just happened to have both the extra time and the curiosity to take a spin around the Industrial Sector, instead of heading straight home, after managing to make a modest sum at the pachinko parlor that had luckily shifted near the main street. And a good thing I did, too! he thought merrily to himself, as he found himself face to face with someone all too familiar.
âIchimatsu!â he exclaimed, leaning over his younger brother and grinning, not only at the pleasantly surprising meeting, but also at his rather unexpected generosity with his food. âAwesome, thanks!â Osomatsu grabbed a large handful out of the proffered bag, starting to pop them into his mouth as he leaned against a nearby, grimy rail. Man, these tasted just the same as the ones back home.
âOh yeah, Ichimatsu, what are you doing all the way out in this icky place?â he asked with his mouth full, âThereâs cats in the other sectors too, you know? Or do you live here or something?â
...Osomatsu paused, mid-chew, at his own question, feeling a sense of dĂŠjĂ vu creeping up in his mind. Didnât he already know where Ichimatsu lived? But he couldnât have, because this was the first time heâd seen his fourth brother in the city... Wait, was it?
He resumed eating, though now staring down at Ichimatsu with an odd expression. This city really messed with your memories sometimes, didnât it?
âWell, I know Iâve always teased you about them, but Iâve always wanted to try them on once!â
