Do you have any headcanons/thoughts on them you’d like to share? :)
Oh they're absolutely WONDERFUL as characters. They're the ones that pushed me into IDW in the first place. Will gladly share some headcanons and, well... Ariverse lore for them hehe
• Rough is the youngest, Tumble is the oldest. Rough is around Sonic's age, Tumble is in his 18s;
• They were around during the events of Sonic Forces, so... I assume that either they got lost from their family, or they lost them. But they were young at the time, so they barely remember their old folks. Maybe they're out there looking for them...
• Tumble lost his tail while tripping and falling into a trap or a badnik. This severely affected him, because... He's a skunk. Seeing Rough's stench abilities are directly related to his tail, and considering that Tumble was also probably used it to slam opponents and break things... It was his main weapon. This made him very vulnerable, and unable to protect his brother if needed. Maybe that's why he built his physical strength
(Also, sidenote: many mammals lose their balance/mobility after losing their tails. Sooo yeah, Tumble is considered disabled in Sonic's world. I also hc that after losing his tail, he can walk but he cannot run)
• Because they spent most of their lives wandering around, they are very street smart. But thats about it lol. Though Tumble is slightly more intelligent than Rough
• They're not inherently evil. They're simply chaotic little goblins spreading chaos and trying to survive (even if it means they need to deceive and terrorize people and walk with the big bad guys to grab some cash
• For some reason they like Clutch. They see them as a father figure of some sort. The possum, however, does not seem to care about them. Greedy old man's heart is cold like a winter breeze... Maybe one day he'll change his mind
• Both skunk bros have an issue with temper (one is always hot headed, the other blows steam in specific situations), but Rough tends to be waaay less patient than Tumble. He tries to teach Rough to think a little before acting, but to no avail
• Tumble likes Rock, Rough likes Rap music. Both dream on joining or forming a band. But they lack the funds (and talent) to do so
• Tumble likes watching soap operas
• They eat a lot of cardboard pizza and other cheap snacks. One will NEVER see these fellas be picky eaters
• (ANGST) They still have nightmares about the time they spent as Zombots. I hc that those infected with the Zombot Virus are barely conscious: they can't control their bodies but are aware of whats happening, which is... terrifying
• Deep down, Rough admires Sonic very much. A secret fan, if you will
• Tumble likes reading poetry. It inspires him to improve his rhymes. Rough? Not at all. He HATES sophisticated writings. Tumble sorta picks on that to piss his brother off (lol)
• Tangle and them were once close buddies. Buuut because they're not fond of walking with the good guys, they became somewhat distant
• Rough is ace and biromantic (bro likes girls and Sonic), Tumble is gay, but very stuck in the closet
