People on this site love to talk about Epic of Gilgamesh being the very first doomed yaoi, but I don't see any appreciation for Tablet XII. Almost no officially published translations include it with the other tablets. It has nothing to do with the previous eleven tablets. It retells the entire epic in a roundabout way except gives it a happy ending where Gilgamesh manages to rescue Enkidu from the Netherworld.

You can't tell me that some scribe didn't finish transcribing the entire Epic of Gilgamesh only to get sad because of the bittersweet ending and write their own original poem giving Gilgamesh and Enkidu a happy ending.

In other words, Tablet XII is the very first fix-it fic.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

Hi so in honor of disability pride month, I wanna make one thing clear.

Using the word autistic as an insult is ableist.

Using the word bipolar as an insult is ableist.

Using the word sociopath/psychopath as an insult is ableist.

Using the word narcissist as an insult is ableist.

If you can’t accept that, get the fuck off my blog this is not open for debate, we’re all human and empathy is not what makes us human, mental aptitude is not what makes us human, and conforming to society is not what makes us human. I genuinely don’t care if you go off about “narcissistic abuse” because that’s not a fucking thing. You can be abused by a person with ADHD and that’s not ADHD abuse.

I’d love to make some super positive and cheery post but we as a society have some serious shit to work through because there are still stigmatized disorders and the words we choose to use do have an impact on how people with the disorder are seen. I absolutely advocate for mental health awareness and this is what that is. Disorders are not some cute aesthetic or quirky thing, they can be ugly and messy and hard to stomach but THATS WHY WE HAVE TO KEEP PROGRESSING.
