PAST
Finn Abraham Walker was born on a rainy day in London to mom, Pam, a primary school teacher, and father William, an architect. If you asked his parents, they would describe him as a rambunctious child, trying to stand and walk well before he was supposed to and always managing to get himself into places he shouldnât have been. Finn loved to play outside and get dirty and would oftentimes throw fits when he had to go inside.
When Finn was nearly four, his father got offered a huge commission to move to the U.S. and work for one of the biggest architectural firms in the country, he couldnât refuse so after getting their affairs in order, they moved to Bridgeport. Finn was still too young to understand and his parents knew that it wouldnât take long for him to settle in.
They moved into the Old Bridgeport neighborhood, and his father, being the busy worker that he was, decided to tear down the old house they had purchased and start fresh from the ground up. Finn didnât mind helping his dad but would rather be climbing trees or digging holes than handing his dad nails. As Finn got older, and started school, his parents began to take note of how often their son had friends over, friends that he could play soccer with, or baseball, and they decided to channel that into letting him play sports.
It didnât take long for him to get noticed and soon, coaches were asking him to join their teams and hopefully bring them out of the losing streaks they seemed to be in. Finn was happy to help and soon found himself on both the soccer and baseball teams. He quickly became a favorite among the coaches, not that he knew of course, he was just having fun doing what he loved with people he loved.
Finn wasnât the typical jock, he could easily manage both his school work and his obligations to the teams he played for. As a result of this, his social life took a bit of a backseat to all that he had to do to maintain the pressures of playing high school sports. After all, he didnât want to live on dadâs money, he wanted to make his own way in the world.
When he met Samantha for the first time, it was like they had known one another their entire lives, even though he was only 8. She was a much needed distraction from the demands of sports and he found himself liking the idea of having her around. They soon became inseparable, spending all the time he didnât have practice or a game, with her. He had had no notion of what a crush was or felt like, all he knew was that he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. They helped each other study, determined to beat the other and be the best student in the school.
As they grew up however and the more time they spent together, he felt something shift in him and those feelings of friendship soon turned to more. He had to watch as she dated other people, all of them losers, in his opinion, and he was always there to lend a shoulder when they would break up. He always assumed his feelings of anger towards the people who hurt her was just because she was his best friend but he knew that wasnât the case. He loved her and none of those boys she dated would ever be good enough for her.
He hid his feelings of course, not wanting to ruin their friendship, and for a while, things were back to normal until the day she showed up at his house, eyes puffy and red from crying. Her latest boyfriend had broken up with her a few days before the big dance and she was devastated. They had agreed to go together because that was what single people did. It was at the dance, after watching her ex attempt to reconcile that Finn knew he had to say something. So, after pulling her away, he led her to the dance floor and after several flubs and long sighs, he confessed to her how he felt.
To no oneâs surprise, they started dating soon after. After one particular date, the pair decided they wanted to take their relationship to the next level and they ended up having sex. It was full of love and passion and brought the pair closer together. But a month later, to everyoneâs surprise, she and her entire family moved and told no one where they were going. Finn was heartbroken. Not only had he lost his the woman he loved but also his best friend. The one person he could talk to about stuff other than sports and academics. He tried to reach out to her in any way he knew how but there was nothing. Rumors flew but no one knew the real reason for her disappearance.
Graduation came and went and as soon as he was able, Finn took his athletic scholarship and moved back to London to attend college. He was only into his first year when he was presented with an opportunity to play professionally with one of the best teams in the country and of course, Finn accepted the offer. The best part was that he didnât have to move. It seemed like things were finally falling into place for him. He already had a guaranteed spot on the team but to be fair to everyone else, decided to try out anyway. He was outmaneuvering everyone, really showing to them why he got the position, when he took a hard hit to his ankle from a teammate. He fell to the ground, grabbing his ankle in pain. He thought it might have just been bruised or sprained but looking at the x-rays, seeing the bone in several pieces, he knew it was over. His chance of playing professionally was over. Â
He fell into a depression, stopped caring about anything and his grades started to slip. He was on academic probation and at risk of being kicked out of school. He left his education behind and started working odd jobs just to pay the bills.
It wasnât until he ran into an old teammate that his life started to get back on track. He worked at a local radio station as the night show host and he was looking for a cohost. Finn reluctantly took the job but soon found himself enjoying it immensely. After working there for six months, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. He re-enrolled in college and got his degree in Communication.
After graduation, he was hired by the same radio station where he got his start as the new night show host. He worked there for 12 amazing years before getting a call that would force him back home.
PRESENT
Finn moved back to Bridgeport after his found out that his father was sick. They had found something during a routine exam that was concerning and after weeks of not knowing, it confirmed his fatherâs cancer diagnosis. His mother told him it wasnât necessary for him to come back because his father was still healthy but Finn doesnât want to take any chances and miss out on opportunities to spend time with his dad so while conflicted, he decided to move home.
He has found a nice house in Old Bridgeport and has been there now for two months. When he heard about the Wave, Bridgeportâs Radio Station, being up for sale, he figured it was fate. He put in an offer and has just found out that it was approved.
Despite all the good things that had happened in his life, there were still unanswered questions that he needed answered but after all these years with no communication, he doubted if they would ever be answered. He is trying to put the past behind him and move on completely and for the most part, he has achieved that but the past doesnât always stay in the past.Â
