Okay this took me months to finish, whoopsy!! Thank you for your patience, let me know what you think β€οΈ
Paul was in love. Hopelessly, irrevocably, in love.
You had come into his life when he least expected it. Completely shattering the walls that surrounded his heart, the ones he was sure were built to last.
See, Paul was not the "love" type. He did hookups, one night stands, flings, but never, ever love.
If he saw the signs that there were stronger feelings afloat, he would cut it off immediately. No explanation, no shame.
He didn't do love.
It's not that he hadn't wondered what it was like to imprint, seeing his brothers and their relationships. But he was sure of one thing: that kind of life wasn't for him. οΏΌ
That's why he hates to admit that he fell for you...almost too easy.
When Emily said she was bringing a friend over for dinner, he smugly asked if you were "hot". She rolled her eyes and made him swear that he wouldn't try anything with you, knowing how he was.
"She's the sweetest person in the world, and we're becoming best friends. Do NOT ruin that,"
Little did she know that she was bringing home his soulmate.
When Emily introduced you to the pack and Paul imprinted, she sagged her shoulders in defeat. Sam couldn't stop laughing, seeing Emily turn to pout at him with her arms crossed.
"I won't let him hurt her," Sam assured as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, kissing her temple.
"Better not."
-
It had started off as lingering gazes from afar, to small conversations in passing. Paul was so scared of your rejection, and you didn't think he could ever be interested in someone like you. After all, you had heard rumors about the hot head, and none of them involved relationships.
Both of you were so busy convincing yourselves that you meant nothing to each other, that you had no idea just how truly deep the other was.
When he had finally gotten the courage to ask you on a date, it was your turn to be nervous.
"He's never even gone on a date, Y/N," Kim had told you that afternoon while helping you get ready. "That means you're pretty damn special."
Paul had been nothing less than a gentleman. He had been sweet, attentive, and ended the night with a soft kiss on your cheek.
"Can I see you again?" He had asked outside your door, just above a whisper.
Your smiled widened softly as you nodded, your eyes locked in his.
Pauls world had flipped upside down. His usual charm and charisma crumbled, replaced with anxious nerves. It wasn't just the imprint bond that made him fall head first. It was that, to him, you were perfect.
Paul knew right away that you were too good for him. But instead of accepting that and moving on, something in him changed.
He had wanted to be better, for you.
When you weren't around, the girls joked that you were the sunshine to his raging storm. They'd never seen him like this before. He was just calmer around you, more steady. Emily and Kim gushed over this completely different version of him.
-
One date led to the next, and before either of you realized, you were seeing each other.
All the time.
You would spend a majority of your day at Emily's house, who was more than thrilled to have someone around to chat and help with the cooking.
That is, when Paul was on patrol and not in your vicinity.
The pack quickly realized that Paul showed affection by being very handsy.
There was never a moment when you two were in the same room that he didn't have some sort of hold on you.
Whether it be a hand squeezing your knee under the table, his arms wrapped around your torso, or pecking soft kisses on your neck when he thought no one was looking.
You vividly remember the day that Embry walked into the bathroom and caught you both in a heated make out session, his one hand engulfed in your hair as the other held you up against the sink.
"Get the fuck out!" Paul seethed.
"THE DOOR WAS UNLOCKED!?" Embry looked at him incredulously as he slammed the door and stormed off.
Paul looked at you, watching your face turn bright red as you tucked into the crook of his neck, your laugh ringing through his ears like a sirens song.
Paul didn't expect this, he hadn't wanted this.
But he'd be lying to himself if he didn't know one thing.
He loved you.
~
At least, that's what he wishes he had told you. Before his entire world came crashing down around him.
Before he sit here, in this cold, unforgiving metal chair. Staring at you, the holder of his heart, bruised, battered and helpless on that hospital bed.
It was his fault. Sam, Jared, Embry, anyone could try to tell him it wasn't. That this could have happened to any of them. But he knew the truth.
He let his hot headed, egotistical, selfishness get in the way. That anger that he swallowed and tried to hide. It had bubbled to the surface like a vice, and now here you lay because of it.
If he knew he would ultimately be here in the end, he would have handled things much differently.
~
It all started when another pack came into town. They were supposed to be just passing through. When it was found out that the alpha and Billy had been good friends in the past, they were invited to stay for a few weeks.
"We must share this land with our kind," Billy had said. "Treat them as family."
All of that was perfectly fine. This wasn't the first pack that had come and visit. They were respectful, cordial, and even friendly.
Except for one of them.
They had all been invited to the weekly bonfire. It was a crisp autumn night, just chilly enough for you to be comfortably snugged against Paul as the fire roared.
The men sat around the pit, buzzing in conversation, while the imprints laughed and took turns sharing stories. It was getting to be a really good night.
The pack had one lone wolf. He was a bit younger, albeit just as big as the rest of the men. He didn't speak to anyone, rather than give off dirty looks and sneers from the sidelines.
"I'm sorry about him, he's new and quite troubled," their alpha had said.
No one really paid him much attention after that.
Until he made the biggest mistake any of them could.
He sauntered over to you.
Paul had been by your side the entire time. One hand wrapped around your waist, the other with a drink in his hand. He would softly squeeze your side every now and then, nuzzling his nose in your neck.
"You look so beautiful tonight," he'd whisper in your ear, making you smile.
Paul looked in your eyes for a brief moment, and he knew. He would tell you tonight. Later on, when the crowd faded and it was just the two of you, he would say those three words that he had been terrified to say all of his life. His heart preemptively beat out of his chest, and he tried to relax.
When his drink was empty he had made a small acknowledgment that he was going to get a new one, leaving you for just a moment.
That's when it happened.
The man had come up to you from behind, like he had been waiting for his opportunity. He slung his arm around your shoulder, tightly gripping you. You gasped, stunned from his aggression around the movement, smelling his breath that reeked of alcohol.
"Damn, are you a sexy little thing. You could do so much better than him sweetheart, why don't you come-"
He didn't even have time to finish his sentence before he was forcefully launched onto the ground, Paul towering over him in front of you. He was trembling, growling intensely at the man beneath him. The noise deafened as everyone stood up, staring in shock at what they just witnessed.
One of the imprints pulled you back, just in time as both the man and Paul phased, teeth snapping angrily as they clawed at one another.
"PAUL!" You shrieked, tears welling in your eyes. Emily appeared out of nowhere, grabbing you by the arm and forcing you back into the house where you were out of sight.
Several of the men from both pack's phased, desperately attempting to rip the two off of each other.
Once the door to the house was closed you sobbed into Emily's arms, completely terrified and shaking as she rubbed your back,
"It's okay, they'll take care of him. I promise,"
Emily was able to calm you down slowly, understanding the intensity of the situation. You had seen Paul phase, but never out of anger.
Even though you were pretty certain Paul could handle himself, you couldn't shake that disgusting feeling you got from that guy. It made your stomach nauseous.
Around half an hour later, you sat at the table with Emily when the boys walked into the house. Paul immediately rushed over to you, engulfing you in his arms. Feeling his touch made your emotions heighten all over again, tears flooding his shoulders.
"Shh, baby I'm right here. It's okay, I'm not going nowhere," he said into your hair as you just hugged him tighter.
Emily looked to Sam with wild eyes.
"They took him back to their camp. He won't be back here again." He said, as if reading her mind.
But the look he shared with Paul after, was less than convincing.
----- A few days later ------
"I'm going to get this new book that just came out at that bookstore in town, and then I'll be right over," you had said over the phone to Paul.
"Whatever you want babe, we're about to watch some movie," he smiled.
"Tell Jared to lay off all the popcorn and save some for me?" you giggled.
"Anything for you."
That was nearly two hours ago. Paul sat in the living room with the boys, the movie playing that Embry had been dying for them to watch. But he was barely paying attention, drumming his fingers along the armchair. Why weren't you here yet? Paul was getting concerned, but didn't want to bother you or seem like the controlling type. After all, you were one to easily lose track of time in a bookstore.
Paul hadn't told you what he wanted to say that night, given everything that happened.
He wasn't worried anymore though. If anything, he was more confident in his feelings. He figured that when the time was right, he'd tell you.
His phone rang, your name plastered on the screen as Paul sighed of relief.
"Hey, are you almost here?"
"Paul." You whispered, so low he almost didn't hear it. He didn't know if it was the bond or general instincts, but he immediately sensed your fear.
He stood up abruptly from the couch, eyebrows furrowed. The sudden movement attracted the attention of the pack, the boys pausing the movie and listening in with their hearing.
"What's wrong baby? Tell me."
"T-T-that guy. The one from the bonfire," you breathed.
Paul froze, his stomach dropped, his heart rapidly beating in his chest.
"He's at the bookstore. He's outside in his car and I think he saw me. I-" your voice cracked as tears welled in your eyes.
"Y/N, stay right there. Do you hear me? Do not go outside. I'm on my way." after you agreed, Paul hung up the phone.
One look behind him and everyone was already up, ready to follow him.
"Let's go," Sam commanded the others, as they tore off their shirts and raced outside.
Emily looked to Kim with fearful eyes, them being the only ones left.
"I don't have a good feeling about this,"
---
Paul could count on his hand the number of times he was scared.
Right now, he was terrified.
Within ten minutes, they had arrived to town and at the bookstore. Your car was still parked, but you were no where to be found.
Sam had to hold Paul back from practically jumping over the counter when the cashier told them you had left a few minutes earlier with a guy.
Heading back outside by the woods beyond the store, Sam ordered the pack to shift and separate, knowing they'd have better senses when scouring the area outside.
Paul and Sam were together, and Paul was about to come unglued. Every minute that passed felt like hours. Thoughts of you flooded his mind, regrets about every little thing he did that led to this. He should have never left you alone. If anything happened to you...
No. He had to focus.
They were deep in the forest when the sound of rustled branches startled them.
What emerged made Paul's heart drop.
It was the man from the other pack, also in his wolf form.
But you weren't with him.
"Where the FUCK is she!?" Paul demanded through his mind, his desperation turning into pure rage.
The wolf snarled, "You always get what you want, don't you? You don't deserve her...you can't even protect her."
Paul bared his teeth, "And what the fuck makes you think you do?! Huh?? I have every right by tribal law to tear you apart you if you so much as TOUCHED her."
The wolf huffed, "You think I give a shit about that? About any of this? I didn't want to be like this..."
"Then why take her?" Sam questioned, trying to remain calm.
His mouth curled up as he sneered, "Because at least I finally have the strength, to take whatever it is that I want."
Before Paul could charge at the wolf, he winced as the mind link was overwhelmed with screaming.
"I FOUND HER! I FOUND HER!" Embry croaked. A flash of the image of you overpowered his mind.
You were tied to a tree by rope and duct tape. You were bruised and bloodied, scratches all over your body. Tears streamed down your face as you weakly reached your arms out to Embry.
The other wolf, seeing this, laughed maniacally. "You gotta admit though...she's a fighter."
Paul's vision went red as he lunged.
---------
Paul sat in the chair across from your hospital bed. He leaned over and rubbed his temples, as if by doing this, he could erase the memories of breaking that wolf down.
It wasn't until the man surrendered and phased back, crying and helpless, did Sam and the other alpha who found them, manage to rip Paul off just before the job was done.
Embry had rushed you to the local hospital where he said you were attacked by an animal. Luckily, Dr. Cullen took over before any follow up questions were asked.
"She'll be alright Paul, you saved her life." Sam put his hand on Paul's shoulder next to him.
Paul huffed, "She wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me. If I would have just told him to fuck off, not gotten so angry at the bonfire..."
"Stop. Any of us would have done the same. I can promise you that." Sam interrupted, shaking his head.
They sat there in silence for awhile.
The monitors beeping started to pick up, and you squinted your eyes tight before slowly opening them.
"Paul?" You wheezed, your throat on fire.
Paul practically leaped out of his seat to come to your side.
"Hey, hey, I'm here." He said as he took your hand in his, running his fingers softly through your hair with the other.
Sam took this as his que to go back to the waiting room, giving Paul a reassuring nod as he left.
"You saved me," you said softly, smiling as you squeezed his hand.
Paul nearly collapsed. After all of this, you didn't hate him. You weren't too scared to be with him, or think he was just a monster.
"I will do anything for you. Forever, you know that?" He whispered.
He cleared his throat, "It's because I love you."
You blinked, almost as if you were processing what you just heard. You supposed you both would say those words eventually, but to actually hear it, was something else.
"I love you too," you said as your eyes welled with tears.
That's when he leaned down and kissed you...really kissed you. Like he was afraid he would wake up and this would all be a dream.
A "whoops" interrupted you, as you both pulled away, slightly breathless. You couldn't help but laugh as you saw Embry, cheeks flushed, awkwardly wave as he was the first of the pack behind him to step in.
"I can't catch a break with these two," he sighed to Jared, who snickered.
The girls came in with your favorite candy and snacks, giving you hugs and telling you how worried they'd been. The boys chatted with one another, and Paul never left your side.
Every so often, he'd squeeze your hand three times, and you'd squeeze it back four.
I am in the MIDDLE of a Sam fic when an idea that was too freaking good came in my head and it just has to be done with Paul. I have never been so pumped to write something.

Insane that one of my recent posts says 'Happy 2024' and now it's 2025 lol. It makes my heart happy to know that I'm not the only one still writing twilight fics. This is a long one, as always, tell me what you think β€οΈ
"You can't actually be serious right now?! You're telling me that you're willing to risk everyone's life over a fight that has nothing to do with you?"
You crossed your arms as you eyed Jacob incredulously.
You couldn't believe you were having this argument with him. Not to mention in the middle of Emily's living room, with all eyes on the two of you. The pack had never seen you this enraged before. Paul, your boyfriend, had seen you upset plenty of times. But even he was taken back at how erratic you were being. He stood just a few feet shy behind you, wondering when was a good time to step in and coax you away.
It was Bella who had told you that your beloved second family offered to help take on a group of rogue vampires. A so-called army of brand new bloodsuckers being sent for revenge on the Cullen clan. She was apologetic and defenseless, like she always was. You had a hard time staying mad at her when she had been this way all her life.
She didn't ask them to get involved, after all. But you knew just who to blame. The only person in this world, other than Edward, who would do anything for her affection.
"Oh, so you're saying you don't care about your sisters safety then?" Jacob questioned. You rolled your eyes, pointing a finger at his chest.
"Exactly. My sister. If anyone is allowed to have an opinion on this situation, it's me. And last I checked, she knew the risks when she got into a relationship with Edward. They all did. This is their responsibility to handle."
Jacob took a deep breath in, exasperated. You were like a sister to him yourself, way longer than you had been to any of the other pack members. He hated that he was fighting with you. But he was not going to back down when it came to saving Bella. He didn't want to admit that you had several points, being that Edward was dragging her along into a world full of danger.
However, that was also his point. He wanted to prove that he was the better man for her. Then maybe, just maybe, she would realize her love for him too.
"Either way, they're coming onto our territory. It is our duty to defend our people on our land."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes, "Please. You're only doing this for Bella and you know it."
Jacob's fingers flexed in agitation. His patience was wearing thin. "You know how I feel about her," he said through gritted teeth.
"I do actually," you said as your voice raised, walking closer to him.
"I know enough to know that she will ALWAYS choose Edward over anybody else in this world. I know that she will do just about anything to protect him, including offering her own life. I know that she would jump in seconds at the chance to become frozen in time with him forever. Oh yes....and I happen to know that SHES NOT EVEN YOUR FUCKING IMPRINT!!" You yelled, now millimeters away from his face.
You didn't have time to register his reaction as you were hurled backwards into Paul's arms, "That's ENOUGH." He said lowly in your ear, his breath hot with his own anger.
Sam and Jared immediately hauled Jacob's shaking body outside, who phased the moment he landed on the grass. The other boys ran out to join them, more afraid to face your wrath than anything else. Emily gave you a sympathetic look before she followed, leaving you and Paul alone.
His grip loosened as you whipped around to face him, pushing him off a little too harshly.
"This isn't fair and you know it. You have no obligation to this fight. You can't put your life on the line for this bullshit Paul."
Paul scowled at you, "You don't get to decide that for me Y/N. Jacob is my brother, and he would do the same for any one of us."
You throw your hands up, "Okay, so he's your brother. What about your imprint, huh? What would I do if something happened to you!?"
Paul huffs, "Nothing's going to happen."
"You don't know that," you say as you feel your throat constrict.
There's a pause, tension filling the air. Paul's hand instinctively reaches out to yours, but he retracts it in hesitance. If Paul was being brutally honest, he didn't know if he would be okay after this. The pack never faced an enemy this large in size. Deep down and admittedly, he was worried. Everyone was. But that was no reason to back down from those filthy cold ones. It wasn't in their nature to concede.
Paul inhales, breaking the silence, "I'm going to fight, Y/N."
Your lip starts to tremble as you fight off the verge of tears ready to spill. You were way past the point of just being frustrated. You took a deep breath, your voice cracking,
"Then I have to leave. I can't stand by and watch you do this.."
Paul's face softens then, "No, no. Come on, it's really late. Let's just go to bed and we'll talk about it tomorrow. It will be all over soon, okay? I promise baby."
Tears flowed freely down your cheeks now as you shook your head.
"We've talked about it, Paul. Over and over again. A million times. Nothings changing."
"That doesn't mean you have to leave," Paul lets himself reach out to you this time, a stab to his chest when you take a step back.
"I-I'm sorry...I can't." Before you could let Paul's hurt expression shatter you anymore, you turned to walk out the door.
You knew Paul wouldn't ever let you walk away that easily. You barely get your truck started before Paul practically wedged himself in the drivers door, preventing you from shutting it.
"Let me go Paul." You sighed, not looking him in the face. You knew the second you did, all walls would crumble. You had to stand your ground with this. Stubborn as it may be, you weren't willing to sit back and watch your imprint put himself in danger.
He gently cradled the side of your face with his right hand, ever so gently brushing a tear away with his thumb.
"Don't leave like this...please. We can figure this out." His voice hoarse and desperate.
"Will you consider not going?" You asked, already knowing the answer. The silence that came after was a dead give away.
Still not bearing to look at him, you could faintly hear the choke in his throat as he kissed your cheek so lightly that you could have almost imagined it.
"I love you, Y/N. I'll be here when you want to come home." he said, slowly stepping out of the truck and closing the door.
The last two weeks had been nothing short of pure misery for Paul. You hadn't spoken to him since you left that night. He had completely succumb to the four walls of his room. His mood varied from agitated to disassociated. His chest was tight, his inner wolf clawing at the surface. He knew what it felt like to have an argument with you, to not be near you for a day. But this was torture.
The pack was on edge. Paul was a strong number they needed in this battle, and from what they could tell, he was significantly weakened by this. Physically and mentally. They hadn't seen a bond this strained since Sam's accident with Emily.
"It's one thing we have to deal with this battle, it's another to deal with hot head over there. I haven't seen him this miserable in years," Jared sighs as he squeezed Kim's knee under the table.
"It's hard to remember him before Y/N. She definitely changed him for the better....I just hope this isn't it for good." Kim says softly as she plays with her hair.
"It won't be. Trust me," Sam says as he takes a sip of coffee.
They hoped he was right. If Paul was going to be at his best for this, he had to see you first.
Sam made his rounds to every room of the house, banging on doors and ordering the boys to get up. Grumbles and groans could be heard throughout the house, the lack of sleep from anticipation eminent. Paul trudged his way down the stairs, catching sight of the pack with their imprints. A sick feeling came to his stomach as he caught glimpses of each one of them hold onto the other like a vice.
He made his way through the foyer awkwardly. Sam tore his gaze away from Emily's eyes for a moment to look at Paul,
"Why don't you go outside with the others?"
Paul shot his head up, caught off guard at the bold suggestion of getting him to leave them alone,
"What, so you can all bang before we leave?" He asked crudely (albeit, jealously).
Sam just snickered, "Oh, you want to watch?"
Paul crinkled his nose in disgust, muttering some curse words under his breath as he headed for the door.
It was only when he looked up that he knew why Sam wanted him out here.
There you stood, at the bottom of the porch. Your arms hugged your body tight, as if you were nervously anticipating his arrival. When your gaze met his, your breath caught in your throat. You both were stood frozen for a moment, neither knowing what the other was thinking.
The bond in Paul's chest felt like it was about to explode. He itched at the idea of pulling you close, but too afraid you didn't come here for reconciliation, rather than to spit in his face and walk out of his life forever.
Then you spoke.
"I didn't come here because Im okay with this," you started, and Paul's heart skipped a beat, fearing his nightmare was coming true.
"But I can't..." you started, eyes welling up. "I can't imagine something happening to you, and us having left like this. Me, having left you. I-I love you Paul, and I-"
You didn't have to finish before Paul rushed and crashed into you, hands gripping your cheeks as he melted his lips on yours. It felt like fireworks in his chest, like the very first time. You pulled back to breathe for a second, relief flooding you as he quickly resumed the kiss, his hands moving to squeeze your hips so hard that they'd be lightly bruised later. You didn't care.
After what seemed like an eternity you both pulled back, Paul continuing to pepper kisses along the side of your face, savoring every inch of you.
"Oh and he thought WE were too much?!" Jared cackled as the rest of the pack filtered outside, shit eating grins on their face as they watched you two.
Paul ignored them, only looking at you. "I will come home to you, okay?"
You mindlessly tapped your fingers against the kitchen countertop, staring into a blank space. The small timer went off, and you nearly leaped backwards into an equally panicked Emily.
"Oops. Sorry," she says sheepishly as she pulls out what feels like the 7th meal she's made since this morning.
"No worries, just almost had a heart attack," Kim giggled from the other side of the room.
The three of you decided to be together while the pack went to the fight. 'A good distraction' they had said it would be, and it was anything except that. Every minute that went by felt more anxious than the next.
"If the boys aren't hungry after this, you can feed the entire reservation," you chided as you looked at all the food.
"I cook when I'm stressed, if you didn't already know," Emily said as she picked at a muffin.
Before either of you could say something to try to ease her anxiety, Emily's cell started ringing, a picture of Sam appearing on the screen.
"THANK GOD," she said as she scrambled for her phone to answer.
"Hey baby, everything okay? How did it-" she stopped talking, Sam clearly having interrupted her. Her face paled as you and Kim desperately looked at each other, cursing yourselves for not telling her to put it on speaker. Emily is used to the boys super sonic hearing, knowing they'd be able to listen regardless.
"We'll be right there," she said quietly, ending the call.
"What the hell happened!??" Kim asked in a high pitch tone. It was then that you felt a knot in your stomach as Emily looked only at you,
Emily's car skidded to a halt in front of the Black's house, your feet hitting the asphalt before it was even in park. You began to rush to the door, when you heard a bone chilling scream that made you stop.
All of the pack members had been outside, wincing at the sounds of terror. Sorrowful looks turned in your direction. Your heart dropped as a million thoughts raced through your mind, both needing to see him and being too frightened at what you may witness. It wasn't until your eyes landed on Jacob's tear stricken face that you snapped out of your thoughts. He had his eyes stuck on you, and for the big bad wolf he was, he looked near terrified.
Your eyes went wild as you marched straight to him, shoving him hard. He barely moved, being much stronger, but you could care less about being embarrassed at anything right now.
"Are you fucking happy NOW? HUH? All that talk about being a fucking hero and it's only my fucking imprint that gets hurt! Fuck you, Jacob. Was it worth it??!" You screeched.
Jacob had stood still, taking in every word, before slowly speaking, "Y/N.....I am so, so sorry. There was a stragler at the very end and-"
You didn't want to let him finish his pathetic apology,
"I DONT GIVE A SHIT WHAT HAPPENED! YOU WANTED THIS SO BAD AND YOU GOT IT. I WILL NEVER, EVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS, DO YOU UNDERSTAND??" You cried.
Before he could give you a response, you felt a gentle, yet ice cold hand on your shoulder.
You whipped around, the temperature unfamiliar, to see the infamous vampire doctor. You sniffled, trying to wipe the tears away to no avail, "Is-is he okay?"
Even though you had pure hatred for the Cullen family at the moment, you weren't dumb enough to take it out on the only one clearly helping the love of your life. You'd appreciate him more if it weren't that they were the reason you were in this situation.
"He's going to be just fine. Bruised and battered right now...going to need a lot of morphine for the amount of energy his body has. Within a week, he should be all healed. You should know he's only been asking for you," he stated, a sympathetic smile.
"Thank you," you whispered, stepping past him and making your way inside. You could faintly hear him talk to Billy in the background, all your adrenaline seizing as you stopped short of the door where you knew Paul to be.
You felt selfish for being upset, not being able to imagine what he went through. You had to put on a brave face for him. Taking a deep breath, you walked in.
Paul was laying on his back, drenched in sweat, his chest glistening. Bandages wrapped around his torso in different ways, his left arm slung to his side. You'd seen him get hurt before, but this looked like pure agony. Regardless of how you knew he felt, Paul's eyes lit up when he sees you.
"Baby girl...I'm home," he said with a wide grin as he reached his uninjured arm out.
That's when you let the tears cascade. You ran to his bedside, so careful of the dressings as you leaned over to softly kiss him. He leaned his head up to kiss you fully, moaning lowly into your lips, and you were unsure if it was from bliss or from pain.
As you leaned back, his fingers ran up and held your cheek. "I'm going to kill your 'brother', by the way..." you whispered, causing him to chuckle.
"I don't want you to think about that right now. I want you to think about the fact that it's finally over, okay?" You nodded your head, nuzzling your nose in the crook of his neck, breathing him in.
You both were like that for awhile, before a woman cleared her throat. You turned around to see Sue in the doorway, smiling at the two of you.
"I just came in to set up the drip Carlise provided," she said as she walked into the room with medical equipment.
She pointed her finger at Paul, "Now, I need you to know that you have to primarily rest for the next week. No phasing. You need to take this medication three times a day, and make sure you eat a meal with it. Only drink water so that you can stay hydrated. Also....no strenuous activities." She looked at you both this time, your face heating up to a bright red.
Paul, the ever unbothered, turned to you and winked.
"Yeah we'll see."
"Paul!" You would have hit him in his side if you haven't been worried about his bruises. Sue just rolled her eyes while she worked on his IV.
Paul squeezed your hand, and for the first time in weeks, you were relieved.
It was a good thing too, you thought as you mindlessly felt for your stomach.
This is the final part to Stay π I liked writing this version of Paul, just a big ole softie. I'm currently working on another one shot & a Sam fic as well. As always, let me know what you think! 2.4K words β€οΈ
You giggled as you took a sip of coffee, the tea you had made went cold long ago.
"I definitely don't think a slap across the face was necessary..."
He chuckled, "That's what I said! Jacob is still hopelessly in love with her. They aren't even imprints. I don't get it." He shook his head.
"What's imprints?"
Paul nearly choked on his drink.
"Um, well it's-"
"Good morning you two!" Paul sighed of relief as Emily walked into the kitchen.
"Oh my gosh, what time is it?" You went wide eyed.
She laughed, "7:00am. I was going to make breakfast if you're hungry."
You nodded getting up, "Sure, I'll help you."
Paul watched you both cook as the rest of the pack slowly filtered in. He. Was. Fucked.
He was trying to come up with something, anything he didn't like about you. Not only was he incredibly stubborn on the fact he didn't need anybody, but what he wouldn't admit was he was downright terrified. Afraid he'd say the wrong thing, or do something stupid and screw up any chance of a relationship. He didn't want a relationship. But that was before you....
-
New vampires were popping up everywhere, and the boys had been on patrol non stop.
This meant little to no conversations with you, other than the occasional small talk at dinner. Paul craved to be closer to you, but every time he had an opportunity, he let his nerves get the best of him.
He watched you leave to run errands one day, Emily then turning to him.
"Are you ever going to ask her out or are you always going to stare at her like a lost puppy?" She boldly asked.
Paul couldn't help but smirk.
"What's it to you?"
"Ummm EVERYTHING. You imprinted on my best friend. And besides, I've watched you get with many women. I can tell she's different to you." She smiled.
Paul sucked in a breath. He took a quick look around to make sure there were no other open ears before mumbling, "She just makes me nervous, I don't know. I guess I never cared if someone would reject me before. Not sure how I would handle it if she did."
"You're kidding right? Ugh, you're both so lost in the clouds. She's head over heels for you, Paul."
"Yeah right." He scoffed.
"I'm serious!! Do whatever you want to do but I think if you took a shot, you'd like her answer."
-
You had been sort of bummed out at the fact you really hadn't gotten anywhere with Paul since that one late night weeks ago. You had chalked it up to him simply not being interested. Normally you'd just brush it off, knowing not every guy you encountered would want you in that way. But, it was ten times harder when you lived with said person. Even though the boys had been extra busy with patrols, you still saw him at least once a day. You got butterflies each time, fantasizing he would just walk up and ask you out. When he never did, you knew you had to just get over it.
Your phone buzzed in your pocket, and you sighed, looking at the unanswered question. Fuck it.
-
It was a Friday night, and the first one in months that Paul didn't have patrol. He was finally going to do it. He was going to ask you on a date. He'd thought this through, countless times. He was simply going to offer if you'd like to grab some pizza and go see a movie. Nothing crazy, just casual and comfortable.
His leg was bouncing under the kitchen table, waiting anxiously for most of the boys to leave. He had been mindlessly talking to Quil who had suddenly averted his gaze to the stairs, eyes growing wide. "Holy shit." He whispered. Paul turned to where he was looking, and his breath caught in his throat.
There you stood, radiating in a tight dress that hugged your body in all the right ways. Your hair had been curled just slightly and your makeup made your face glow. You looked like you had taken a step right out of heaven.
"And just where do you think you're going gorgeous?!?" Emily gushed, hand on her hip when she, too had noticed.
"I got invited on a date." You beamed.
Paul felt like he had just taken a knife to his chest. His heart felt like it was nearly ripped out, his inner wolf scratching at the surface in pain. This was nobody's fault but his own. He didn't do anything for weeks and it wasn't even surprising someone else had beaten him to it.
The air was tense, all the boys and Emily trying and failing not to gauge Paul's reaction to your words. He slowly got up from the table, restraining himself not to shake, not to even show a slight temper until he was outside and far away from the house. He couldn't ruin this for you.
You frowned at Paul's exit, wondering in the back of your mind if he at all cared. Nonsense. Focus on this date, and do not think about him.
-
"I thought I'd find you here." Sam chuckled as he approached Paul, both in wolf form on the edge of the forest. Paul hadn't wanted anyone to see, but when your date picked you up he had followed you both to the restaurant, happy it was in ample sight through the crowded trees.
Paul huffed. "I'm just making sure she's safe. That is my job as an imprint, is it not?" He sneered.
"Of course. But then again, if you admitted to yourself that you liked her, she might not be on this date in the first place."
"For fucks sake. I do like her, okay? I've been busy on patrol and I was planning on asking her out tonight. I didn't know it would be too late.."
"It's never too late."
"Have you and Emily been watching too many rom-com's lately? Seems you both have all the answers to my love life."
Sam snorted. "We don't have all the answers, no, asshole, but we do know first hand what it's like to navigate imprinting."
Paul sighed. Maybe the universe would give him a second chance.
-
You had regretted everything the second you got in the car. This guy was the most boring, dullest man you could have ever met. You caught yourself looking at the clock more than you did him.
Once you had suffered through about two hours of misery, you politely (and awkwardly) told him you didn't think this would work out, and that you would find a ride home. He seemed absolutely fine with this, and you knew it was because you had put in so little effort from the start. Perhaps dating was not for you right now anyways. At least, dating anyone that wasn't him. Once you'd stop letting him get in the way of your thoughts, you'd try again.
After the man left you called Emily from the lobby, to which she apologized it didn't work out and said she'd of course be on her way.
What you hadn't expected however, was to see a certain wolf you had been obsessing over, pull up to park instead.
What a sneaky little bitch.
You walked up to the passenger door, eyebrows up in confusion.
"You ordered a get away car?"
You blushed, rolling your eyes playfully as you hopped in.
"Listen, not every guy is going to be my knight in shining armor and I've accepted that." You chuckled.
"That bad huh?"
"Miserable. Had the personality of watching paint dry. And that place was awful. They didn't even have good food. Just salad and wine. I'm starving." You threw your hands up in defeat.
Paul cleared his throat, the nerves starting to creep back up to him.
"Would you want to stop somewhere for some pizza?"
"Please, that would be great."
Paul smiled as he started up the truck.
-
You two walked through the door, throwing each other a confused look. It was silent. If there was one thing you learned about living here for the past month, it was that it was never, ever quiet.
Paul set the boxes on the counter, noticing a small note.
"I'll be back, I'm just going to change." You announced before heading to your room, in which he took the opportunity to quickly read it.
Probably the only time I can promise a house to yourselves until at least midnight. Make a move already! -Emily & Sam
Paul blushed before discretely throwing it in the trash.
You came back in an oversized hoodie and sweats, just about knocking the wind out of Paul. How did you look so flawless, so effortlessly? He'd never know.
"We could watch a movie while we eat on the couch. If you want..." He tried to sound as nonchalant as possible.
You smiled and nodded, grabbing a slice and following him.
When both of you had finished eating, still watching the movie, Paul's mind was anywhere else. He had to stop letting his nerves get the best of him. Before he'd know it, you'd just be out again with some other guy. He couldn't let that happen without at least knowing if he had a chance. You were his imprint for crying out loud, so you had to feel some sort of bond, right?
He eyed you from the side as he caught you hugging your knees to your chest, shivering ever so slightly.
"Are you cold?" He asked as if it wasn't obvious. When you nodded meekly he held out his arm. "Come here."
Your heart was racing as you more than gladly accepted the invitation in his arms. Jeez, was he hot.
"You have this tempature all the time?"
You could feel his chest vibrate as he chuckled. "I guess there are some perks to being a wolf."
Paul was being as normal as possible, but his mind was screaming. You molded perfectly into his chest, your hair smelling of fresh shampoo. Your small hands hesitantly wrapped around his torso as you snuggled deeper into him. He placed his arm on yours, the other wrapped around your side. He could spend forever just like this.
It wasn't but an hour that he could feel you softly start to snore. He smiled to himself as he gently kissed the top of your head. He leaned his cheek down, and soon enough, he followed.
-
Paul squinted his eyes open, nearly jumping when he saw your head still lay on his chest. He had almost thought the entire thing was a dream. As the sun shone through the curtains he realized you both had slept through the entire night, shocked none of the pack members tried to mess with him. He absentmindedly ran his fingers through your hair and out of your face. You looked so peaceful. He pulled his hand away when you started to blink, yawning and stretching before also realizing where you were.
You looked up at him before fully sitting up.
"Oh my gosh, I didn't realize I fell asleep."
"It's okay, I just woke up myself."
You both now sat upright on the couch, but still so close. You looked up at him with tired eyes. He couldn't help staring back,
"You're really beautiful you know." He said so softly that it was almost a whisper.
You blushed, hard. You looked in his eyes, the ones you caught yourself in so many weeks ago, and down to his lips. You parted your mouth slightly as if you should say something, but Paul was already ahead of you.
With one hand he cupped your cheek, he leaned down and melted his lips into yours. You snaked your arms around his neck, getting lost in the kiss, in his overall warmth. He could feel you smile through the kiss, and it was as if it washed away any doubts that he had before.
"Ohhhhhh SNAP!!!!" Embrys voice had you two pull away, Paul turning to glare at him as his hand still gripped your waist. He almost had a mind to get off the couch and fight him, if you hadn't placed your head into his neck, giggling.
"Embry I told you to leave them alone damnit." Emily's stern voice came from behind them, smacking him upside the back of his head. She drug him back into the kitchen, ordering he help her with breakfast.
"Hate to say it but nights like last night won't happen often. Theres a lot of interruptions in this house." He said as he softly kissed your forehead. You lifted your head back up, kissing him softly once more.
"As long as we can always pick up where we left off."
Paul smiled wide as he swiftly pulled you under him, your laugh rung in his ears as he returned his mouth to yours.

A little break up, make up one shot while I work on part two of stay π as always, let me know what you think! 2.4K Words β€οΈ
You had been understanding. You had been so, incredibly, unbelievably understanding. You had been kind, patient, considerate. You had thrown every insecurity away in your mind. You shoved your feelings right down your throat.
But that was over with now.
Now, you faced him. In the middle of the yard, your throat agonizingly raw from yelling. You were shocked he hadn't phased yet, but he knew the minute he did you would take off. The pack, watching from afar and unbeknownst to you, were also shocked at his restraint.
"I would NEVER do anything to hurt you. Why won't you believe that?"
You laughed wetly through the tears. You were down right manic over what he didn't comprehend.
"Really?? You don't understand why I would be upset by ANY of this? Are you that fucking blind?"
Paul huffed through his nose, attempting to control his temper.
"I have a job, Y/N. There's new bloodsuckers popping up every day now and we have to make sure we're ready for anything. That means stacking up our numbers against them. Guy or girl, they have to be trained."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes,
"And don't you find it at all peculiar that everyone else is out on their own but you're STILL having to train this same girl? DAY IN AND DAY OUT?!"
He sighed.
"She should be ready, I know. But every time we get on patrol, she gets fearful and fails at basic exercises. Sam has me spend extra time with her."
You threw up your hands as if the answer was obvious, "Then TELL Sam to have someone else take a turn?"
"She only likes training with me."
Your eyes went wide, and all you saw was red.
"AND THAT DOESNT GIVE YOU ANY FUCKING CLUE THAT MAYBE SHES FAILING ON PURPOSE FOR YOUR ATTENTION? THAT MAYBE SHE DOESNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT IMPRINTS? THAT MAYBE PERHAPS SHE HAS DIFFERENT INTENTIONS?"
Paul shook his head, him now scoffing.
"It's actually really hard to learn to navigate being a wolf. That's something YOU don't seem to understand."
You think you had lost your mind. It seemed as though the world crumbled around you, his words ringing in your ears from the impact. That was not something the imprint you knew before this would have ever dared say to you. It wasn't that you believed Paul would ever be disloyal, but your instincts were damn sure this girl wanted him to be.
You nodded, swallowing the lump in your throat.
"You're right. I don't. You need to be with someone that understands. We're done."
Paul stepped back like he had taken a blow to the chest. His eyes softened now.
"You....you don't mean that."
You headed towards your car, not being able to face the broken look in his eyes.
"Y/N, wait," he reached out, and even though you were mad, a part of it killed you to deny him.
You shook your head, new tears rehydrating their original streaks.
You sniffled, and took a deep breath.
"I'm tired, Paul. I'm tired of waiting up for you. I'm tired of being left unanswered for hours. I'm tired of making plans that just get canceled. Im tired of being lonely. And most of all, I'm tired of being disappointed."
He grabbed your arm before you could fully get in, and you saw Sam emerge, still at a respectable distance from the two of you.
"Baby listen, okay, I'm sorry. I can do better I-"
"You've said that before Paul. This is not the first time we've fought about this."
Tears pricked the corners of his eyes now.
"Please. Don't." He whispered.
He almost made you cave. You so badly wanted to stay. But you also knew if you did, it would be the same reoccurring cycle. He had to know you were serious. You wanted the relationship you had before she came along. Until you were sure you would get that again, you had to leave.
"I have to go. Call me when your priorities change." You said as you gently pulled out of his grip and shut the door. And with that, you took off to your father's place.
-
Paul stood planted in the same spot you had left him, shattered. What had he done?
He felt a small hand on his shoulder, a feminine voice in his ear,
"Maybe it was for the better. She seems like a total bitch."
Paul's blood turned cold. It was as if in that very moment, he had come to his senses. The smoke had cleared in his crowded mind. You were right. Of course you were right. All the stress that had been on his plate, he hadn't been thinking clearly at all.
He came to realization now, and it was too late.
Paul yanked away his arm, turning with a fury in his eyes to the woman behind him. She shrunk back under his gaze, feigning an innocence he knew good and well was all fake.
He trembled with anger, barely registering that Sam was now in between him and the girl. Paul pointed a finger at her, teeth gritting with anger.
"Get. The FUCK. Away from me."
Paul ripped apart as he phased, having it bottled up for far too long, and dashing off like a mad man into the woods.
The woman gaped like a fish, starting to babble, turning to Sam for reassurance.
"I didn't do anything I-"
Sam huffed a breath through his nose, "You heard him. I think it would be best if you left. Embry's cousin or not, you are no longer welcome here. That's an order."
Sam shook his head, running a hand through his hair as she stormed off. He felt guilty for letting it get like this. He had some suspicions about her joining the pack, seeing as she was always gravitating towards Paul, but he had shrugged it off, too occupied with everything else going on.
Sam also knew too well what it was like to hurt an imprint. Physically or emotionally, the bond felt all the same. Strict alpha or not, he valued Paul as a brother, and just hoped you would come back for him.
-
As Paul laid his head onto his pillow, he watched the days go by before him. Being forced to come eat dinner by Emily and whenever he had patrol were just about the only times Paul left his bed. He would call you once a day, sometimes with a small hope you'd answer, and sometimes just to hear your voicemail. After his patrol shifts ended, he would often sneak off to your house, just to make sure he'd know you were safe, if even from a mile away.
-
"Do you think she'll ever come back?" Kim asked Jared quietly one day, after watching Paul barely eat his food and sulk back up to his room.
"I don't know honestly. Y/N is just as stubborn as he is. But I do miss him. I've never in my life seen Paul like this. His internal thoughts are depressing as hell..."
Kim sighed, "It's not like she's doing any better. She finally answered my call yesterday, and I had to double check who I was talking too. She's miserable, Jare."
He shrugged, "I mean what can we do about it babe? You can't get involved in people's business like that."
"They're not people. They're family." She mumbled as she clutched her coffee mug.
-
Another week had gone by, the pack all sitting in the kitchen getting ready to eat.
"Boys. We have information on the new vampires in town," Sam announced as he walked through the door with Jacob.
"They're after Bella. She had a run in with that red head we keep chasing to the border every night. Her boyfriend had tried to kill her so the Cullen's killed him, and now this bitch is assembling an army to take her out for revenge." Jacob relayed.
This grabbed Paul's attention. If they were after your sister, that meant you were in danger.
"We're going to help them fight. Our people are at risk if we let this get out of hand, or if the Cullen's lose. But until the army comes here, we're going to be sharing shifts with them to watch over the Swan house," Sam said, looking at Paul who was heading out the door.
"Paul."
"You can watch Bella from a distance. I'm taking my imprint home," he slammed the front door.
"I can't imagine that's gonna go good." Embry mumbled.
-
Your body jolted upright from the couch at the abrupt knocking on the front door. You hadn't been expecting anyone, Bella out doing who knows what with Edward, and Charlie hours away on a fishing trip.
Opening the door your breath caught in your throat.
"What are you doing here?"
"We have to go. Now." He said sternly, ignoring your bewildered look as he flew past you and up the stairs to your room.
"And just who the hell do you think you are?!" You stormed after him, appalled he was barging in your house like this.
"There's an entire army of vampires on the hunt for your sister. You're not safe here, I'm taking you to Emily's." he said as he grabbed a suitcase and started throwing random clothes in.
"You don't own me Paul Lahote. I'm not going anywhere with you." You crossed your arms as you looked at him incredulously.
He refused to look you in the eye as he spoke, his breathing heavy from your scent,
"It is still my job to protect you whether we're together or not. You don't have to talk to me at all if you don't want too, and you can sleep in the spare bedroom" He said as he continued to pack.
You laughed.
"Come to Emily's with her there? I think the fuck-"
"She's not there anymore."
"Ohhhh so because she's gone you care about me again."
He stopped, this time turning to look you in the eyes for the first time in two weeks.
"Don't you ever fucking say that. I could give a shit less about her. It's always been you. I'm....look, I'm sorry I didn't make you believe that before. You were right. And I was so unbelievably wrong. I understand why you don't want to be with me anymore. I'm not asking you to forgive me. Im asking, just for the time being, that you do this so that I know you are safe....please."
You wish you could have stopped the tears that welled up in your eyes. A part of you wanted to stay mad forever, just to make a point. But the other just wanted to wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him. Two weeks felt like two years apart from him, and your heart so desperately ached to be near him again.
"Fine," you whispered.
Paul looked like he wanted to say something more, his eyes lingering on yours, but he decided against it, zipping up your bag and heading to the truck.
-
Once you both arrived to Emily's the pack headed out to train with the Cullen's, leaving you both and Kim at the kitchen table.
"So you guys.....didn't make up?" Kim asked disappointed.
You shook your head, "He just wanted me here. He apologized and said he wanted me to be safe. It was left at that."
Emily reached her hand over into yours,
"Do you want to be with him?" She asked genuinely.
"I.....I mean," you sighed. "Of course I want to be with him. I just was so angry, you know?? I didn't like feeling that way in our relationship. Alone."
The girls nodded understandably.
"If it helps, he's been an absolute wreck without you. I think if anything it was a wake up call." Kim offered.
"I haven't been exactly living the best either," you slightly chuckled.
"Well. We are more than excited to have you back in the house. That being said, I'm going to need both of your help with dinner." Emily smiled as she looked at the clock, standing up.
You grinned, happy to at least be here with your friends.
-
It was the night before the fight. Everything was quiet, but you lie awake, your mind racing. You hadn't said much to Paul in the three days you were here. There were lingering stares, brushing past eachother occasionally in the hall, but no conversations had been had. You felt a pit in your stomach at the idea of this fight. What if something happened and you never got to see him again? What if the last thing you had between you two was this awkward tension? The more you thought about it, the faster the tears spilled down your cheeks. You sniffled hard.
A gentle knock at the door startled you, getting up you frantically tried to wipe them away.
There he stood on the other side, leaning against the frame. His eyes looked so exhausted, like he hadn't gotten sleep either in days.
"Whats wrong?" He said softly, taking a look at your face.
His gentle voice was enough to send you flying into his embrace. You arms wrapped around him as you sobbed into his neck.
He held your waist as he walked you both backwards into the room, shutting the door. His hand caressed your face as he leaned his cheek on your forehead.
You leaned back just enough to look at him, shaking your head. Your voice was broken and trembling,
"I-I don't care that I'm safe. T-tomorrow. A-and you. What if we never-"
Paul used both hands to cradle your face.
"Hey. Listen to me. Everything will be okay. This is what we've been training for. It's us and the Cullen's against them, our numbers are stronger. I'll be fine, alright? I'm just happy you're here and away from harm."
"I can't live without you. I love you." You whispered.
Paul instantly kissed you. It was like a wave of relief and happiness washed over you as you kissed him back with every ounce of passion you could muster.
Both your tongues danced as you refused to pull away from eachother. Paul bent down only for a moment to hoist you up in his arms, taking you into his room instead.
Unfortunately due to advanced hearing, the house was no longer quiet that night.
Happy 2024! I honestly didn't know what to call this, but I just kept writing and now I'll probably need a part 2 π enjoy π 2.8K words
"You have no idea how excited I am. I mean just how long have I been begging you to come live with me?" Emily grinned into the phone that was tucked between her shoulder and ear. She paced the kitchen while whisking a bowl of brownie mix, mindlessly chatting away.
"I must warn you though that the house does get chaotic. But the boys are pretty good about keeping up after themselves," she said while swatting away Embry's hand that almost made a dip in the bowl. He put his hands up in self defense as she rolled her eyes.
"Sounds great. Sam will pick you up at the airport tomorrow at noon. Let me know if you need anything else, and have a safe flight. I love you!" She she set the bowl on the counter, hanging up the phone.
"Was that Y/N? She's moving in tomorrow?" Quil questioned from the table with a mouth full of chips.
"Yes, and I trust that you boys will be on your best behavior in welcoming her..." Emily raised her eyebrow as she pointed a dripping whisk of batter at all the men now surrounding the kitchen.
"Depends, is she hot?" Embry snickered as he sat down.
"Oh....she is." Quil emphasized with wide eyes.
"Get it Embry!" Paul snorted as he clapped him on the back, reaching over into Quil's bag of chips.
"They WILL be on their best behavior. And no one will be 'getting' shit." The booming voice of Sam emerged behind Emily, wrapping his arms around her torso.
He reached his head over her shoulder as she let him lick what was left on the whisk, earning a disgusted "Seriously?" from Quil.
"Hey, but what if she's my imprint??" Embry held his up his finger to argue.
"You know that would be a different story...but we know already she isn't Quil's" Sam smirked at the youngest pack members now disappointed face.
"You guys are kidding right? I've seen pictures. Shes insanely out of all your leagues." Jacob quipped as he strolled to the living room.
"Anything is better than my crushes newborn infant..." Embry muttered under his breath, making all the boys cower in laughter.
"Oh yeah? You wanna say that again?" Jacob challenged.
Sam walked around in between them, looking from side to side at them both.
"THIS is what Emily is talking about. Keep the fights outside boys. I mean it. Just because Y/N knows about the pack doesn't mean she won't get scared if you clowns nearly phase in the kitchen. Are we clear?"
The two reluctantly nodded, Jacob sulking away to the living room.
"But come on, that was kinda funny.." Embry whispered, making the other boys giggle.
Paul shook his head with a smile at his little brother, leaving the room to shower before dinner.
-
There was something about the conversation that stuck with Paul throughout the night. Since Sam had met Emily, all of his brothers wanted imprints. They all saw what it was like to have one up close, and craved it desperately. He grimaced at the thought. The idea of a "soulmate" sounded ridiculous to Paul.
The problem wasn't that he didn't believe in it. Anybody could see the intense love that imprints had for one another, their bond growing with them until old age.
But Paul was not familiar with the term love. He never did get to see the love between his father and mother. She had been his imprint, but passed long before Paul could remember much about her. He watched his father struggle emotionally, never being able to get through the grief of her loss. Sure, he raised Paul as best he could, but deep down it was his mother that would have filled the void in their quiet house.
Things did get a little brighter when Paul joined the pack. For the first time he truly felt like he was part of a real family. He came home to hot meals, genuine laughter, and lively conversation. Not only had he gained a group of brothers, but ones with unwavering loyalty. None of them ever strayed away when Paul lost control of his temper, and were the first ones to help him learn to control it.
Maybe that was the reason he never looked for anything serious when it came to women. What was the point? One little outburst and they were out the door quicker than they had come in. He didn't allow himself to feel anything for them, because they'd end up leaving, and he was saving himself the heart break anyways.
Paul lay awake that night certain about one thing, he didn't need an imprint.
-
You inhaled the crisp fall air. Smiling wide as you looked up the steps to the new home awaiting you, the patio adorned in different flowers and cutesy outdoor decor.
"Oh Em it's just how I remember. You always make it look so cozy," you said as you squeezed the arm of your cousin beside you.
She returned your same smile.
"You're too sweet. I just can't believe you're really here. Come on, I'll introduce you to the boys."
You followed her up the steps, walking through the door to the warm smell of baked goods, no doubt that Emily had been up all night. You chuckled to yourself as you remember how she would go overboard on food whenever she was excited about something and couldn't sleep.
What you weren't used to, however, was being greeted by the several shirtless men. All incredibly in shape with tattoos on their arms, you might have been intimidated if it weren't for their cheesy smiles.
Emily gestured to each of them,
"You remember Quil, and that's Embry, Jacob, Seth, andddd well," she looked around puzzled for a moment. "I guess I'll introduce you to Paul whenever he comes around."
You waved at Quil and shook the other's hands.
There must have been some sort of inside joke, because as you finished with introductions you saw Sam laugh while they collectively let out a small sigh.
You don't think you were meant to hear it, but you caught Sam whisper at Embry,
"Better luck next time kid."
Emily didn't make a big deal of whatever it was, guiding you to your room.
After you got settled in, you found yourself strolling the hallway, looking over all the framed pictures on the wall. You had been over the moon when Emily had found Sam. You've never seen her so happy before, and you could tell he looked at her in the exact same way.
Not paying attention when the bathroom door opened, you collided with a large bare chest that stepped into the hall.
You gasped as two strong arms to match caught you before you fell, luckily, and you embarrassingly faced the one man you of course had no former introduction with.
"I am so, so sorry. I-"
"No no it's fine, are you-"
Both of you started and stopped mid sentence. Your attention had been captured when you two locked eyes. It was like you had been anchored to the floor by them. This warm, fuzzy energy had your entire body buzzing. It was so silent that you could hear your own blood flow in your ears. You furrowed your eyebrows in the haze. What the hell...
"ARE YOU SHITTING ME??"
A loud voice cut through the trance and you flinched at the abrupt sound. The man held you slightly tighter for a moment, as if he was about to protect you from whatever had interrupted you both in this hypnotic state.
Turning around so you both could see that the voice had been Embry, the man looked back and quickly dropped his arms, as if he just realized he had been holding you that whole time.
An unfamiliar emptiness lingered when he let go. He quickly averted his gaze, mumbling another apology before brushing past you, into a room, shutting the door.
-
His imprint. Right there. In the hallway of his own home.
Paul couldn't breathe.
He sat on the edge of his bed, nervously running his hands through his hair in a panic.
You were beautiful.
Breathtaking.
Your smell was intoxicating and your skin was so, so very soft. Your voice sounded like an angel. Your hair-
No.
No, he couldn't let himself think like this. He didn't need an imprint. Didn't even want one in the first place.
Was this some kind of sick joke the universe was playing on him? This girl could have anyone she wants. Why him?
Emily's call for dinner had him taking deep breaths. He could do this. They could live amongst eachother and not have to talk. There's ton of people in this house, it would be rare that the two of them would ever be alone. Right? Right. He could do this.
He walked into the bathroom, splashing cold water on his face. Wake up. It's just some girl. No different than the many that he had been with. Hell, if he could have sex with someone and never think of them again, he could do it. They had barely exchanged a sentence. Barely touched. He would be fine.
-
You sat down at the table, trying to behave as normal as possible. What happened in the hall was nothing. Whiplash. Yes, it was probably the whiplash from running into him. The poor guy seemed shy, and he was most likely just as shook up as you. It was a small accident and nothing more. He certainly didn't seem angry or upset, just caught off guard.
But wow....was he handsome. Certainly more attractive than any lousy guy you'd ever been with. He had this aroma of sandalwood and forest that was enchanting.
Okay, slow down Y/N. Let's not walk in on the first day and jump on some guy. After all, you two are going to be living together. Maybe don't make him uncomfortable in his own home. You shook your head to yourself. Just forget about the whole thing and it will be fine.
Luckily, Emily had started conversations around the table, easily able to take your mind elsewhere.
That was, until he came in the room. There was a beat of silence when he entered, the other boys seeming to look at him like they were anticipating something. When he didn't make a sound or even look up to anyone, slumping at the table and taking a plate, the conversations arose again.
Dinner was excellent as usual for Emily's cooking, and besides your beating heart constantly begging you to look at the man near the end of the table, it was almost normal.
It was when Emily put delicious brownies on the table, that it took a turn for the worse.
"I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU AGAIN. SHUT THE FUCK ALONE ABOUT IT" Everyone's head turned to the angry voice. It was him. He was so visibly upset that he was shaking, staring daggers at Embry beside him. Slamming his fists on the table as he stood up, you let an audible gasp slip.
That's when he looked at you for the second time that night. It was a far reach, but somehow you saw his eyes soften. The crinkles of anger in his eyebrows vanished, and he swallowed, before bolting out the door. Sam immediately followed, and Emily sighed, reaching out to touch your arm.
"I'm sorry about Paul. He's very.....expressive sometimes."
Paul.
-
"Leave me alone Sam."
Paul sighed through the mind link, his large wolf racing through the trees.
He didn't mean it. He never means it. But Embry would simply not stop talking. First it was meaningless. He asked what imprinting felt like. Paul had shrugged it off as nothing crazy, hoping he'd drop it there. Then, he had asked him if he planned on pursuing the imprint. Of course he told him he wasn't. He didn't need a soulmate. No matter what his instincts told him. But then, Embry had smiled and thanked him, telling him that you were now "fair game".
That had been when he lost it.
He stopped on the edge of a cliff, breathing in the fresh water air. Sam slowly approached his side.
"Embry only said that to get a rise out of you, you know."
Paul scoffed.
"He can do whatever he wants. I don't care about her."
"Oh you don't?" Sam didn't sound so convinced.
"Even if I did, she wouldn't want me. Did you....did you see the look on her face when I yelled?" Paul replayed it over and over. You had looked absolutely frightened.
"There is a reason she was chosen to be your imprint Paul. You don't know Y/N. She is patient, and most of all understanding. If you talked to her-"
"I don't need to talk to her. I am perfectly fine alone. I don't need a woman, and I definitely don't need an imprint."
Sam sighed.
"Paul. You can do what you want. I'm not the type of alpha to force you to love someone. But believe me when I say that I had a dark past. I was also comfortable with being alone. Emily is the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Having a conversation with her doesn't mean there will be wedding bells tomorrow. All I'm saying is you don't know unless you try."
Paul nodded, and Sam left him with his thoughts.
-
You stared at the numbers on your phone screen. 2:00am. You huffed in frustration. Your mind had been a constant replay of the events today, your mind spiraling. You had settled on the fact things around here were weird, when you had visited Emily and accidentally caught sight of Sam in wolf form. But this energy couldn't have anything to do with that. Could it?
You decided to make yourself some tea to try and relax. Knowing Emily you knew there had to be some in the kitchen. You tip toed in the dark, your body stiffening as you recognized a familiar muscular back that sat at the kitchen table in a dim light.
You were ready to retreat back to your room when he turned his head around to look at you.
Damn, wolves must have good hearing.
"I was just....going to make some tea.." you pointed to the cabinet awkwardly.
He nodded, looking back down at what appeared to be a cup of coffee.
He couldn't sleep either?
You mindlessly tapped your fingers against the counter as you awaited the kettle, praying that if you stared at it long enough, it would speed up the process.
-
Fuck, was this torture. You were like a goddess, standing there in your pajamas, hair astray and up in a haphazard bun. He imagined walking up behind you, wrapping his arms around you, soaking in your warmth while he pressed gentle kisses on your neck. He wondered what it sounded like to hear you laugh...
STOP STARING. Say something. Anything. Just. Try.
He cleared his throat. It must have startled you because you quickly turned to face him.
"I'm...sorry. About what you saw earlier. That's not like me. I-Embry, he can get under my skin sometimes," he rubbed the back of his head.
"But that's no excuse. I'm-um, Im Paul, by the way."
He lifted his hand up in an almost wave. Why was he so awkward? He was never this way with women.
You giggled, and suddenly, he felt like he was in heaven.
"Y/N. And no worries at all, Emily said you can be....'expressive' sometimes."
He chuckled.
"That's one word for it. But I just don't want to scare you off..."
"Well. I think if knowing that you can all turn into a large creatures who can rip me apart and that doesn't scare me away, I think you were okay." You smiled. He could look at that smile forever.
-
He was actually talking to you. Man, was his laugh so perfect. You could talk with him forever.
The kettle screeched, and you reluctantly made your tea.
"Well....I guess I'll see you around, Paul." You took your mug and headed for your room.
-
His name on her tongue. He wanted her to say it again.
"You can stay. If-if you want. I, uh, I don't...know much about you."
A little one shot that I just couldn't stop writing. A good angst to fluff (btw my fics will never be all angst, im too soft). Also do not fear, Im working on a Sam fic and part 3 to not letting you go. But you let ME know what you think of this one β€οΈ 2K words
"My SISTER, Paul. She's my fucking SISTER!" you yelled, voice hoarse as your throat cracked.
"I could give a SHIT LESS WHAT SHE IS. YOU'RE. NOT. GOING." He screamed, jaw taut as he tried his best to subside the tremors that were threatening to take over his body.
You ignored the teeth he bared, shaking your head and scoffing.
"Aren't you tired of this?! I'm going over there. I HAVE to know she's safe."
"YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I'LL JUST SIT BY AND WATCH MY IMPRINT GO TO A PLACE WHERE I CAN'T PROTECT HER? WHAT ABOUT ME KNOWING THAT YOU'RE SAFE?? HUH?? YOU'RE SICK IF YOU THINK I WOULD BE OKAY WITH THIS!"
"Sick?!? SICK?!? LETS TALK ABOUT HOW 'SICK' IT IS THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO KILL HER AND THE BABY. THATS MY FAMILY PAUL!"
"AND WERE NOT?"
It had been like this for a week straight. Ever since the pack stormed through the door announcing their mission to kill Bella and the unborn child within her.
You felt as though your two families had been pinned against each other. Head spinning at the idea of there being a 'choice' between your sister and imprint.
On one hand you were desperate to make sure she was alright, but also exhausted at the never ending battle with your boyfriend.
Sure you had talked to Bella over the phone, but you didn't buy into the lies like your father had. Even though you knew significantly more than he did, she still attempted to downplay the situation. She had done this numerous times since getting thrown into the vampire world, but she could only keep you in the dark for so long before you unraveled the truth.
You had to see her. Even if it was the last time. By fate, or at the hands of the pack. You had to be there for her, as she would you.
Leaving your imprint though? Was at task challenging at best. On at least four different occasions you fought with Paul for so long that Emily and Sam had to intervene, prying you two apart at the pleads of other pack members.
Emily would console you while you ranted and Sam would make Paul run off his anger in the woods. When you faced him again, it turned into a rerun of the same argument. Nobody in the house had gotten sleep, and the things were progressively getting worse.
Quil came through the door, widening his eyes.
"Just a heads up everyone, a little comedic relief does not go over well. I saw my life flash before Paul's eyes." He huffed before sitting down.
"When is this going to be overrrr?" Embry whined. He shoved his head in his hands on the kitchen table while you and Paul went at it in the front yard.
Emily sighed.
"Unfortunately sooner than you think....Y/N packed her suitcase this morning." She said quietly.
"You're not really going to let her go over there are you?!?" Kim stood up, looking at both Emily and Sam.
"If you would like to stop her, please, be my guest." Sam motioned his hand to outside, where you and Paul could be seen through the window. You were throwing your arms up and pointing fingers at him, while his voice boomed loudly, towering his large frame over yours.
Kim winced.
You had always been the calm to Paul's raging storm. 'Made him all soft' as the guys would tease. None of them had actually seen you two disagree with each other. In the mind link they saw glimpses of minor arguments, most of the time being reconciled in the sheets..
Paul eventually got an order by Sam to think about something else while on patrol. 'Literally, anything else'.
"She's not going anywhere. I can count on my hand how many times they've been apart since he imprinted. They'll work it out eventually." Jared said as he pulled Kim on his lap, taking a hunk out of his apple.
Kim didn't share a look that she believed him, worriedly looking out to where you stood.
A few moments passed when her body stiffened and she gasped, making Jared look where she was.
"SHIT! SHIT!" He said, throwing Kim off his lap.
Sam turned to look out the window in time to see Paul phase, his sharp claw making contact with your skin. Your blood curdling scream instantly had everyone else off their seats, nearly knocking each other over to race outside.
You laid on the ground as your body wracked with sobs, clutching your side. Blood gushed through your hand as you started to panic, scrambling to stand. The large silver wolf only stood for a few moments before Paul shifted back, completely horrified as he frantically tried to reach you.
He felt his heart nearly rip out of his chest as you backpedaled into Emily, who was helping to hold you upright.
"NO! NO! GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME! IM DONE!" You cried.
Sam stood in the middle of the two of you.
Paul could feel his chest caving in, hand out, speaking more gently than he had at all in the past week.
"B-baby. Please. Please, I'm- I'm so sorry baby. Please let me just see-"
"NO! I'm done. I'm done. I'm leaving. I'm done." You repeated like a mantra, limping to the car.
"Y/N you cannot drive like this..." Emily attempted to say as she stepped in from behind you. She could see your anxiety was heightened, and afraid to set you off further.
"I have to go," you choked, on the verge of tears as you tried to open the drivers side. You had yet to even notice the gash in your side, adrenaline pumping wildly through your body.
Paul made his way around Sam, grabbing your other arm that was holding the door.
"You are crazy if you think I'm letting you leave like this. Please come-"
You yanked your arm from his grasp.
"Don't. Let me go!" You said coldly.
Paul froze. He couldn't move. You never spoke to him like this. Even in the numerous fights you two had this week.
Every single instinct in his body needed to help you. He knew you were downplaying your injuries. He knew he just royally fucked everything up. But the absolute last thing you could do was walk into a house full of vampires dripping in blood. Fucking doctor or not.
"Come inside and let me take a look at you, okay? Please." Emily said to coax you, frantically looking at your wound.
This made Sam follow her gaze, looking down to see the blood pouring from your side hadn't stopped, and you were growing paler by the minute.
"Y/N....you're going to stay here and I'll call Sue." He said in an authoritative voice, leaving no room to argue as he turned to start dialing the number.
You almost argued. You almost fought both of them on the subject. Your stubbornness almost won.
But you felt an immense pain. So strong you don't know how the hell you didn't notice it when you stood up.
That couldn't be good.
"....Y/N?" Paul said, barely above a whisper. Tears were now silently streaming down his face as he held both hands out slightly. Not close enough to touch you but to be prepared in case you fell.
You could feel yourself start to float in and out of consciousness. You tried to ground yourself by focusing on something. You looked at his hands that were outstretched.
Those hands that you held on your first date. The hands that hover your back anywhere you go. The hands that lift you up from the couch on movie nights to bring you to bed. The hands that move in just the right way when making love to you. The hands that were now shaking, not out of anger, but fear. You loved those hands.
"Y/N? Baby?" Paul said louder, more urgently as he could see you fading.
You watched him get blurry as the world started to spin.
"Paul," you murmured, before fading into darkness. The last thing you remember were the hands that caught you before you hit the ground.
"Y/N!!!" Paul screamed as he caught your body falling into him.
Sam ran back, telling him Sue was just up the street. He instructed Paul to carry you inside and onto the bed. The pack dispersed, each trying to find something to help you such as towels, an emergency kit and pillows.
Paul held you close as he lay you down, while repeatedly whispering in your ear.
"I'm so sorry baby. I'm so-so sorry. I cant lose you. Youre everything to me. I'll never yell at you again. I swear on my life. You can do whatever you want. I'll do whatever you want. Please, I love you." Paul pressed kisses to your hairline when Sue and her nurse friend entered.
Jared reluctantly came in behind them to lead Paul out of the room as they worked.
"Come on man, she'll wake up soon I promise."
After he was guided out, Paul slid down to sit on the other side of the door, refusing to move. Jared didn't push it, leaning down to sit next to him.
"Sue's seen this kind of stuff before. Just needs stitching up and stuff," Jared reassured as he put his hand on Paul's shoulder.
"It's not the injuries I'm worried about. So much as what she'll think of me when she wakes up. I....I fucked this one up, Jare."
"If Emily can forgive Sam, I think Y/N will forgive you. She's crazy about your ass."
Paul just nodded, praying he was right.
~
Your eyes fluttered open slowly as you woke. You looked around to see that you had been bandaged up along your left side, an IV attached to your arm sat close by. You attempted to sit up, whining when the pain wouldn't allow it. Within a few minutes Emily entered, her face showing relief.
"You're up! How are you feeling?" She checked the IV before sitting on the edge of the bed, careful of your body.
"Sore...where's, where's Paul?" Your heart ached as you started to replay what happened. There was no doubt in your mind what happened was an accident. You had seen the signs he always warned you about, and chose to ignore them in the heat of the argument. Not only that, but the look on his face when you had refused him was too much to bare.
Emily smiled, not expecting you to want to see him so soon.
"He's just outside the door. Hasn't moved. He didn't know if you'd want to see him..."
"I need to talk to him."
It hadn't even been a few seconds when Paul stood at the door. He looked more out of shape than you did. The disheveled hair and dark circles under his eyes told you he hadn't slept in days.
"I'll give you two some space. Just holler if you need anything," Emily spoke as she stood up, making her way around him and down the stairs.
Paul remained where he stood,
"If you don't want to be with me I understand. I have no words for my actions other than I am so...." he cleared his throat, trying not to cry. "So incredibly sorry I put you through this. I put you in danger when I was trying to keep you out of it. You don't have to stay I-"
"Paul please just kiss me." You interrupted, not wanting to hear the rest as you already made up your mind in forgiving him.
He stood for just a moment longer, trying to comprehend if he heard you correctly. It was when you weakly opened your arms for him that he wasted no time in rushing over to you, cupping your face and gently yet passionately kissed you with everything he had. Tears flowed his cheeks at the relief that you still wanted him. Even after everything he had put you through.
You two pulled back for air after a moment, and you ran your hand through his hair.
"I forgive you, okay? I can't imagine my life without you."
He let out a breath, smiling for the first time in weeks.
"It will never happen again. I swear on my fucking life baby." He caressed your hair, neck, landing his palm on your heart.
You two sat like that for awhile. Almost scared to leave each other's presence. You two talked for hours on the bed. Paul had confessed that the night before, while you were sleeping, the pack had fought with the Cullens. You learned that Paul refused to go, not wanting to leave your side. You were grateful to hear that Sam didn't push on him being there, knowing you were all that mattered to him, and he'd refuse him if he had too. Even if it went against his every instinct as a wolf. Turns out that Jacob had imprinted on your niece, and Bella had survived, now as a vampire.
You weren't particularly thrilled your sister was now a bloodsucker, but as long as she was alive, you were happy.
Paul eventually made his way to the other side of the bed, kissing every exposed inch of you, whispering all the things he loved about you in your ear until you fell asleep.
When your heartbeat slowed down and he was sure you were out, he reached down and felt the velvet box in his pocket. No doubt in his mind about the future you both held.
