Natural non-affected dialogue is one of the most difficult parts of writing imo. These mfers all sound like they're in a book.

There's just so many things it's your job to represent! Just through dialogue you have to show every layer of a person; how they present themselves to the world, how they act when unobserved, the tension between their thoughts and speech, what they reveal unintentionally and intentionally, how they say one thing when they mean another. Half the time what comes out the other end sounds like garbled effusive nothing-speak, or the ridiculous melodrama of a team shooter character with their ult gauge filled.

All dialogue exists on a spectrum between "okay." And "I can't wait to use my poison blast!!"

dastardly foes always actin high and mighty til u pull out the draconic transformation

much appreciation for people who create ocs that are clearly derivative of The Character because even if the inspiration is clear, they had the self awareness that their headcanons had snowballed so far past character analysis into pure self indulgence that there was very little of source material left. and that’s beautiful. sometimes when you’re preoccupied playing touys it’s hard to take a step back and realize you’ve actually created something wonderful and new

too many of you are dismissing your thing as derivative or poor quality or subpar when you haven't even made it yet. how can it be any of those things when it isn't anything yet. go make your thing and then decide if it's good or not

they’re sealing me in concrete tomorrow

they’re pressing me flat between slabs of steel tomorrow

they’re hanging me out on the clothesline tomorrow

they’re beating me with hammers tomorrow

they’re spinning me in circles really fast like a top tomorrow

they’re weighing my heart on the scales tomorrow

they’re cryodessicating me tomorrow
