âMe? Make fun of you? Lily Evans, I would never,â he vowed jokingly, enjoying her sleepy dramatics too much to do much else. They were only slightly different than her usual dramatics, of course, but somehow, the sleepy ones were far more endearing. She looked so happy, and he leaned into her touch, laughing as she declared her right-ness. âWhen are you ever not right?â he asked, winding his arm around her more properly as she leaned in to kiss him once more.
His fingers still in her hair, he wound them up in random strands, grinning like an idiot as she shared her own confession. From anyone else, it might have swelled up his ego, but from Lily, oh to hear these worse from Lily just made him more of a lovesick fool than ever before. âWell, I love you enough not to tell you what time it is,â he said, grinning at her, âbecause thatâs one less thing youâll have to be mad about.â
He nodded at the last point- it had taken a lot of effort not to do so, but it had been a good call. Drunken confessions simply werenât the same- shifting as she leaned up and over him. Pulling her over top himself properly, he responded readily to her kiss, and wasnât surprised when she wanted to hear it again. He let one of his arms fall to her lower back, holding on to her loosely, as the other situated itself more firmly in her hair, holding her face steady as he smiled up at her. âI love you, Lily Evans. Iâm in love with you. And, the real cherry on top,â he added, winking at her as he raised his head to bring his lips to hers again, âI love you more than I love Sirius.â
âOh please. Even sleepy I know thatâs not true, Potter. If there was ever a day where you didnât make fun of me Iâd worry that there was something truly truly wrong.â Lily and James had been making fun of each other or teasing each other since they first met, and as silly as it was, she wouldnât have it any other way. Lily smiled, shrugging slightly, âIâm not sure. Iâll let you know if it ever happens.â
Lily laughed when he refused to tell her what time it was, grinning at him. âAh, clever,â she murmured, âThat would probably be safest for you.â She could easily check what time it was but in all honestly something told her she was much happier not knowing how early it was.
She laughed lightly when he pulled her on top of him, running her hands along his jaw as she pressed her lips to his. She moved one hand to his chest, holding her head up as he spoke again. As he told her he loved her again her smile grew and her heart kept beating speedily. She wasnât sure if it would ever regain a normal rhythm after all of this. Lily grinned, leaning back down to kiss him again. âMore than Sirius? It must be true love so,â she murmured, her lips just barely touching his. Lily felt more happy than she even knew was possible. Jamesâ arms around her waist only heightened this feeling, also making her feel safe and secure. She couldnât think of anywhere she would rather be. Not that she was even able to think about anything other than James in this present moment.Â
âI love you,â she said again, just because she could, before kissing him once more.
