I'm glad that everyone who worked in it and saw something about Sonic 4, not only are talking good things about it but about Amy too! IS good to see her respected after all!
One thing I would love for movie 4 to do is if we touch a bit on the relationship between Tom and Maddie and use it as a way to draw parallels between Sonic and Amy's relationship.

Tom and Maddie are such a cute couple, they support and love each other so much, and they have a really cool story! The first movie even establishes them as being very healthy, with Tom actively making sacrifices for Maddie's education – which may have included a long-distance relationship because Green Hills doesn't seem to have a nearby college, and it was made clear that Maddie has a doctorate, so she spent years dedicated to her education – and with Maddie basically believing in and loving her husband unconditionally. The ambulance scene in the third movie even shows how Maddie puts Tom above everything and wants to be with him until the end.
But seriously, they already have strong parallels with Sonamy! I dare say they are a more adult and mature Sonamy. The movies make it clear that Tom and Sonic have similar personalities, but I wouldn't be surprised if Maddie and Amy did too. Seriously, even Tom and Maddie's color scheme is the same as Sonamy's: Pink and Blue!
I even made a post about it!
No joke, they've been planting the seeds of these parallels since the second movie, nobody can convince me otherwise! So yes, I'll be crying over the parallels between these two! If they use time travel to show young Tommadie and create even more parallels, I'll never shut up about it.

Hot take: I dont think Sonic's arc in movie 4 is going to be him falling in love with amy and not being able to express those feelings as many people are expecting. I think his arc will be something else and his romantic liking of Amy will be born from it or something else in the plot. I will go as far as to say that I think their dynamic (in general) will be the emotional bit of the story but not because of them falling in love, thats just gonna happen as a result of what they are go through together and what their interactions.

I talk a lot about Sonamy and the circumstances that could occur, but while I think it will happen and affect Sonic quite a bit because of the whole concept of an emotionally repressed person feeling the effects of a feeling he can't control (passion), I don't think it will be his main arc by a long shot (although it might be a narrative element).
Because I agree, Sonic's arc in movie 4 isn't going to be him falling in love with Amy and not being able to express those feelings. I think it will be about overcoming his self-aversion, which will be worsened by a "man vs. self" conflict generated by Metal's presence!
I see this as the core of Sonic's challenge. He clearly doesn't have very good self-esteem and actively believes he's to blame for the tragedies that have happened around him and the people he loves. With Metal's emergence, his image that sows nothing but pain and destruction? Nah, this kid is going to go crazy. So, his emotional core and Amy's will shine through, and I agree that it's not because it will be romantic, but because Amy is a person whose connection comforts him.
Amy met Metal before him, but there doesn't seem to be any animosity. And knowing her personality, I think he'll find a lot of comfort in her. Besides Amy's own arc and how she'll probably find comfort in him. It's less about passion and more about feelings of security.
I've talked about them a lot here, but I think it will be a Miles and Gwen situation from Spider-Verse. They have a painfully obvious crush on each other, but their greatest asset isn't the romance itself, but what it represents for the characters individually. They receive support and encouragement that no one else provides. And that propels them to be better versions of themselves.
I believe Sonic and Amy will go down that path. It's not just the romance, but how it arises from a context and matters to the characters and their arc. It's a natural consequence of the whole, of the interactions. My favorite form of inevitable if you ask me.

Amy can see a more human side of him most people don’t usually pick up on and it causes Sonic to realize some things…not only about himself but about Amy as well.
This comic takes place somewhere early-ish in their relationship when they couldn’t really hold any proper conversations without their typical dramatics. Because of how intense their feelings are, their meetings are often just a series of unspoken understandings and loud uncertainties.
Neither are particularly serious people so much of the more serious implications of their relationship get swept under the surface. But Amy has a knack for hitting a little too close to home. And when it smacks him in the face like that, it’s too much to handle. He’d rather not think about it honestly…
But what goes through the mind of someone who’d rather not think about it? Some kind of process must be happening, something in him is stirring and maybe it means too much to dwell on. Perhaps he’s thought it all in the blink of an eye and he’s decided everything all on his own.
Doing something like that…would get rather lonely wouldn’t it?
And what about the person who can’t stop thinking about it? She makes it very clear what she wants so shes done thinking. Shes trying to make it real. But if it’s constantly getting away from her perhaps she’ll double down and try harder next time. Trying over and over again leaving her alone in the dust.
