Let's take a trip down memory lane!
Was 2008, July had arrived and I was working full time, at a hair salon. It was my first full time job, since completing high school. Finally feeling the money roll through my account, made me feel like I could purchase anything! This time in my life, meant my habits were completely altered, changed, and forever showing me, I will never be the same!
In under a year, I had gained about 25 - 30 lbs, ( I will mention this now, I am 5'2). I had then moved to Alberta, for a boy, and yes it was foolish, but I wouldn't have left if I didn't do it right then and there! Through that first year, of what felt like my feelings weren't being heard to, learning who I am, magically didn't help my help with my weight gain, I had then reached 145 lbs. Feeling nothing but gross, I decided to do something about it! Going about it all the wrong ways, I started my eating to a bare minimum. My mornings consisted of grapes, and grapes continued through a good chunk of my day. Still eating sandwiches and working out almost everyday. Next thing you know, I lost about 20 lbs, looking to eat more balanced with the knowledge I had and still on a budget. After 2 years, and having a tough break up, I became sick. I was getting horrible headaches by the end of the day, and nothing would cure it but sleep, but most mornings it would still be there, just not as bad.
I had then gotten blood work done, and my Iron was so low, I should of been sleeping all day, practically! At this point, working out became stressful and my legs were very tight. After about 7 months, I wanted another refill of Iron, but the doctor who had seen me, wanted to know why I was anemic. So he told me something life changing.. "I think you have Celiac's Disease"
Talk about a bomb dropped on my head, the results came back, that yes, I have Celiac's disease. But there was another test and viewing of my gut to make sure, for the next 3 months, I had to continue eating gluten products, feeling like crap and having to keep up with my Iron. The scope was basically painless, and I was sedated, and the procedure took about 15 minutes. I was truly more embarrassed since I was so nervous about the whole thing, that I cried right before they sedated me. My GI doctor has even mentioned since then, that she is so glad to see me happy!
It has been 8 months since then, I have really not lost or gained anything, other then knowledge and the start of the next chapter in my life. I fluctuate quite a bit with my weight right now, it is really common for people with Celiacs to gain weight, since their bodies can now absorb nutrients. Losing weight at this point, is hard! My legs are still recovering from being malnourished, and understanding my body again beings me nothing but a challenge. I am determined to figure this out! I am beginning with the basics, and having to do some of this in baby steps.
Now that I've walked down that road again. Here are my goals for the next 3 months;
Goal weight : 130 lbs
Goal achievement : Complete 5km run (Run or Dye - August 21st)
Goal dress size : 8
