Ignorance was bliss, and RaRa was imprudence made a woman because of it. The reason wasn’t that she couldn’t sense danger or that her intellect wasn’t strong enough to know where not to go alone, but it was all a dream and wasn’t it in dreams when one should try everything one wouldn’t dare to do awake?
RaRa wished to do everything as Feya, in a life where she was not judged by a harsh society, or the heavy eyes of her family to accomplish a life she did not even want. Feya was free as a fawn, and RaRa would not let go of it. Every day she would go out to do something different, if it was not a plan with any of the apprentices then she would go out on her own, and that was it for the day. A walk to a place she had never visited before but heard about; Lisianthus River.
The weather was no longer one to swim, most people would think, even RaRa, but there was no harm in dipping her feet in the water. The Fairy approached the river, its flow was quiet, and she could see a few animals by the shore drinking from it. Everything was calm, and all creatures were in peace, enjoying nature, or so RaRa thought until she misstepped. Her weight broke some branches, and the sudden sound of water being disrupted by a body made RaRa startle.
A man, a very naked man, was in the water, and RaRa screamed in surprise. “What on earth!” She yelled, covering her eyes but keeping her fingers far apart, to still have a glance at the stranger and the water dripping from him. “Have you lost your mind! Is not summer to swim in the river na-” she cut her speech in the middle to look for other words, “like that!”
Never before had she realized that, for the most part, she was surrounded by women all the time. Maybe it was a rule of the Good Witch, she was not sure, but it had been a while since RaRa had seen the naked masculine skin. —As for Feya, RaRa was not sure if she ever had.—
Matteo wondered if there was a modest way to get to his clothing. It was significantly out of reach at the border. He was also careful not to stray too close to the Darien Vale’s side. He settled for crouching down, before realizing how undignified that would look. However, he also didn’t want a complete stranger seeing that side of him.
Oh gods, how much had she seen? Did this mean he had to marry her now? Should he have her beheaded? This seemed like a beheadable offense. However, he didn’t think she had done it on purpose. Had she? This is what his father meant by not trusting anyone. He was going to have to make a stranger queen, wasn’t he? There was no way he was going to besmirch her honor. Though, no one had to find out about it.
Unlike his father, he planned on being married only once. So, this was quite the predicament. Matteo began to shiver as his body was no longer moving. Whatever decision was made, it needed to be done quickly. “Well, then why are you here? Did you come to spy on unsuspecting men?” He yelled, the current intensifying. Matteo really needed to get out.
“Keep your eyes covered,” he said. “Because I have no intention of marrying a stranger.” Matteo gingerly began to walk towards his clothing. He slipped on a stepping stone and cursed slightly. Then, he began the tenuous trip back to his clothing. A few feet had never seemed so far.
Marriage? RaRa’s eyes widened at the words and her mind was upside down. Never had she imagined that her trip for the day would end up with her knotting the threads of marriage.
“What have you just said?” She managed to put together the words barely, shaken by how things had progressed so fast and so far from her current wishes. She had not even thought of forming a family just yet and especially not with a man she didn’t even know. With her eyes still covered but with a faint touch of curiosity to see more of the male (mostly due to the impact of the meeting) she managed to turn in her heels and give the other her back and a little bit of privacy. “How come that coming to a public place would end up in us getting married. Have you lost your mind?”
She could feel her face burning, her blood had gone to her cheeks out of embarrassment. RaRa heard the man coming out of the water and figured he would look for his clothes and recover some of his dignity with the fabrics. She took a discreet peek at what was happening behind her, catching a new view of the man, quite muscular she could now say.
“Is this what you do in your spare time, sir? Walking around the woods naked?” She asked, her voice almost feisty. RaRa now had a good story to tell the others at the cottage. Not every day one walks into a naked man. Or at least not the Fairy.
