February meetup - 11th of February 2014 @ Engine Yard
Hey gamedevs!! well well well. The January meetup was awesome, we had about 30 people in attendance, some sort of record? :D (if you took pics, please comment with a link)
So, in February we are back to Engine Yard
Where: Engine Yard (Barrow Street, Dublin 4)
Talks by Chris Greggan (about a text adventure engine... more details soon) and Kevin Bergin (also more details soon)
Lua is a powerful, fast, lightweight, embeddable scripting language. It is also extremely popular with game engine developers, and can be found in Cryengine, Irrlicht, Baja and Corona, to name a few.
I want to talk about why Lua is so popular, and how you can embed Lua in to your own applications and game engines. Starting with Lua, the language, and its virtual machine and then digging a little deeper to see exactly how it interacts with lower level systems!
“Let’s have some Fungus!" By Chris Gregan
The Interactive Fiction genre has seen huge growth, largely thanks to an amazing open source program called Twine (http://twinery.org/). Fungus is similar to Twine, but provides a framework for building beautifully illustrated text based games in Unity 3D. I’ll be talking about the design of the library and future development plans.
