the problem with being new to the scene was she was still getting handed the boring articles that no one wanted, like finding out how people were adjusting to washington. surely people had to be tired of that by now, right? still, rita knew if she provided a good enough article they would give her better the next time around, so she had to do what she could. “excuse me, you look like you don’t belong here. can i just get a quick quote. just some of your thoughts and feelings on everything going on here.” rita said, approaching a stranger on the sidewalk. it was so easy to tell these people didn’t come from this city, even if some of them didn’t know that. “oh but don’t be boring darling. none of that ‘i’m confused and i want to go home. i don’t know who i am and i’m so sure i was raised here even though no one was raised here. i’m not from this time period, what’s going on?’ we all know that already. that was boring three months ago. it’s like you want to put people like me out of business.” she didn’t even address people spewing that nonsense anymore. they wouldn’t be any use to her or her articles so rita just kept moving. “let’s spice it up a little bit more. maybe there’s some romance? a love you know you’ll inevitably have to leave if you ever want to go home? or maybe a fight? it doesn’t matter, just as long as it’s interesting.” or if she could even get them to say the word fight. she was a master at making quotes work in her favor after all, she just had to get the people in the right mindset to provide something twistable. 

magnus didn’t really want to deal with any amount of questions concerning why he was in dc.  it was hard enough to explain as it was, and he wasn’t about to try and tell a mortal that he’d been sent here on a quest.  or so he thought.  his memories of why and how he’d gone to dc were more than a little lacking.  but either way, he didn’t really want to chance breaking a mortal’s mind by telling her a bit too much.  “i don’t belong here,” he said tiredly, wanting nothing more than to be back at hotel valhalla.  “this is my first day here, so there’s really nothing i could tell you i’d be leaving behind if i left dc.”  except well - there was a flock of pigeons that seemed to be following him around, but bringing that up in an interview, as much ‘flaunting the weird’ tended to work, might be too much, for just a first conversation.  “wait -- people are having memory problems?”  maybe that was why he’d been sent here, even if didn’t make much sense.  it was hardly like that would have something to do with ragnarok.
