Sea PigΒ (Scotoplanes globosa), family Elpididae, specimens found in the deep sea off of the Pacific Coast of North America
The Sea Pig is a benthic deep-seaΒ sea cucumberΒ (class Holothuroidea) that walks using long tube-like limbs.
Like most sea cucumbers, they feed on detritus.
They have often been seen congregating in groups of up to 30 individuals.
The 3 species ofΒ ScotoplanesΒ are difficult to tell apart by sight.
They reach a length of up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) in length.
Like other sea cucumbers, the respirate through their anus :3
They often host small crustaceans and gastropods, commensally or as parasites.
EasternΒ HellbenderΒ (Cryptobranchus a. alleganiensis), family Cryptobranchidae, found in freshwater streams in the eastern US
The smallest of the βGiant Salamandersβ in the family Cryptobranchidae, this aquatic salamander is nonetheless quite large, growing to a length of up to 29 inches.
While only considered βVulnerableβ nationally, this species is considered endangered in some states.
(The USFWS is has proposed that the species be listed as ENDANGERED under the Endangered Species Act.)
The other subspecies of hellbender is theΒ Ozark HellbenderΒ (C. a. bishopi), which is endangered.
