This is no more older than this:

Zim complained about being underground for ten years. 

And Irkens are apparently in their infancy for more than ten years because he was meant to stay underground for far longer.

So Little Zim basically caused two blackouts in a span of ten years, they transferred him to military research immediately after this before he could complete his basic education infancy training. 

Miyuki even referred to Zim as A “Little Creature” and I don’t think it was necessary because he was just a small irken. (that’s part of it) but when you look at all the other scientists and engineers in the SAME department:

Mostly all Vortians and other species who are most likely adults and Irkens seem to not go into Military research all that often in general. 

 like this little child in a scientist robe just chided her best engineers and went like “okay that thing sucks, but My Tallest, look at what I’M DOING!” 

This is just the equivalent of giving an advanced child dangerous chemicals and nuclear weapons at their disposal. 

And yet everyone is surprised by how this turned out.

Long story short: Zim was still pretty much in his infancy years when he created an energy absorption blob and that’s pretty impressive. And when his people found he could be pinned for a crime he did as a juvenile, he was pretty much given the death penalty as a sentence for things that happened many decades ago.  

this is how licensing works and was ultimately bound to happen. jhonen signed a contract agreeing to it, even if it certainly is weird that the crew found out at the same time the fans did. oni press had taken it upon themselves to consult the crew and have them step in (good on them!), but is by no means a requirement, since the IP does not strictly belong to jhonen, rather viacom.

whether you support the comics or not is up to you, but dont go out of your way to deem them "problematic" or "illegal" all because jhonen wasnt in the mix. this is how it works.

what also has me facepalming is people proceeding to attack the comic artists for even being involved. that's equivalent to attacking a chicken nugget for having chick fil a's CEO.
