blowyourhousedown:
Bigby tended to save the park for lulls in his patrol; in a sense, it was the highlight of his night, if you didn’t count staggering back in and falling asleep. The scents weren’t the same as his once-home, of course, but they were similar enough to calm him, and the most trouble he tended to run into here were people sleeping on the benches instead of safe at home.
Tonight had been a rough one, and Bigby found himself gravitating towards the park rather than a bar or his pack of Huff ‘N’ Puffs. He’d been… worried, once, that nature would bring back old memories, stir up old instincts - but it seemed as long as the place was quiet and uncrowded enough to pass for a real forest - even a tiny one - it had the opposite effect. He could be calm here, staring up at the moon in the dead of night.
A rustle in the bushes shattered the tranquility, yanking him out of his thoughts in an instant; he braced himself, muscles tight, a second before a small white figure flew out and growled at him in a clear threat display.
He almost responded in kind, lips drawing away from his teeth to form a growl of his own, when the rest of his brain caught up with him - that was a growl, all right, but a play growl. A cub’s - a child’s?
Awareness flooded back to him, and with it the realization that he was standing here snarling at a tiny figure who’d likely only meant to scare him. Ashamed, Bigby quickly straightened, shaking himself once, firmly; maybe the park was a bad idea after all.
“Very scary,” he said after a moment, trying to wrest back some control over the situation. He inhaled, and frowned; whatever the child in front of him looked like, she certainly didn’t smell human. It was something like… moonlight, if moonlight had a scent, but beneath it, there was something….
Familiar. That was what it was, more familiar even than the slow echoes of home here in the park. This girl smelled of forest-home, the kind of forest-home that had been Bigby’s once upon a time. Something in his chest ached, and for a moment he stood there, unsure of what else to say.
He wasn’t running.
Aisling dropped her arms, teeth clicking shut. His snarl didn’t escape her attention - an actual snarl, not her play ones, not the ones she used to jokingly scare people. She was suddenly very aware of how big he was compared to her (and her, without any of her powers to force him to leave her area alone). She bared her teeth briefly, no longer joking. He had gone from a random person she could scare and get a laugh from to a threat to her new home (because, let’s admit it, this is where she’ll be sleeping in the coming weeks).
She put her hands on her hips, scowling up at him, head craned back. “Go away,” she said in the most demanding voice she could muster. She’d rarely had to actually interact with humans entering her forest. Most were merely passing through to Kells so she didn’t bother with them. The ones trying to spoil her forest got scared away by her wolf pack or magically moving trees. Now her wolf pack consisted of one puppy wolf currently napping farther into her area of the park, the plants hadn’t responded to any of her pleas or magic, and she’d already used up her element of surprise.
But it wasn’t as if he knew about her wolf pack situation. She could say she had a dozen wolves hiding out around here and he’d never know. “If you don’t, I’ll have my wolves eat you.” She lifted up her hands, curling them into claws as she spoke. He hadn’t been scared by her but maybe her threat would make him leave - or he would get the idea that she didn’t want anyone around.

"How’d you get your hair like that?”
Aisling dropped from the tree, legs catching on a branch so she was hanging upside down, hair touching the ground. She raised an eyebrow at the boy she was hanging in front of, an expectant look on her face. “And why is it that color?” Of course white hair like Aisling’s was weird for humans, especially when that hair color was connected to a child, but it was normal for her people. And she knew that most human’s had brown or black hair but here this kid was with multi-colored hair sticking up all over the place. She was almost in awe (not that she’d admit it). Maybe she could get her own hair to be like that. “Are you a monster? A fairy?” That was probably it. Full-blooded fairies could look like anything. She’d probably just mistook him for a human.
She swung back and forth slowly, arms crossed over her chest as she waited for an answer. “Well?”
@ninthextrication
A tiny hand crawled over the edge of the table, grasping at air for a few seconds before finally landing on an apple. Aisling quickly pulled it towards her, appraising it carefully and nodding with satisfaction before grabbing another apple, quicker this time. The owner of the fruit stand had his back turn, making it exceptionally easy for Aisling to get what she'd set her sights on. She knew stealing was wrong, her mother had taught her that, but it wasn't as if she had money or anything to barter with and her stomach had been growling all day. She'd pay the man back once the plants started listening to her again and she could make her own apples.
She bit into one of the apples as she straightened up and walked away from the stand. Not as good as the ones in her forest, but it was better than anything else she'd found in the city. She looked around as she ate the apple, the other held tightly in her hand, before her eyes fell on a serious looking man. She frowned, eyebrows knitting together. He looked unhappy, even more unhappy than she was being anywhere other than her forest.
She thought for a moment more, looked down at the apple in her hand, and walked over to him. Once she reached him, she shoved the apple up towards his face. "Do you want this?" It wasn't like it was hers.

"Hehe!" Aisling dropped down behind a bush, holding her stomach as the young man she's scared ran off in the other direction. She usually only scared people if they entered her forest. It was fun and got them out. Seeing as her forest wasn't anywhere around, though, it just made the park she was in feel a little more like home. She brushed a few strands of startlingly white hair out from in front of her eyes, craning her neck at the same time to look over the bush.
It was a small area of the park, an open gate between her and the walkway that brought people towards her. Aisling had been here for hours, ever since she'd found the garden in the park. The rest of this place was bricks and stones and metals she couldn't recognize. It was nothing like her home. Her home was green and bright. This place was dull and dead. The park was the closest she had to her forest. So, of course, she was protecting it just like she did her forest.
She bit the inside of her cheek, holding back a laugh, as she saw a man coming towards the gate. She waited till he was right in front of it before springing out from behind the bush, arms flailing and teeth bared. “Raaaaawr!”
;; hi! i’m lizzie/blair/emery! i’m cool with any of those names, though rn i like emery more. i’m 17 and am nonbinary so i use they/them pronouns. i’m a high school senior anxiously waiting for college decisions and hoping to major in either history or physics (ye i’m a weirdo who wants to mix liberal arts with stem). i rp’d aisling before on the indie scene but that was years ago. i’ve rp’d since i was like 12, all on tumblr, and have rp’d in citta for a year? possibly more idk. i’m extremely awkward and don’t really get things a lot of the time but hey if you wanna scream about fandoms or just chat i’m 200% up for that.
my twitter is over here. any citta peeps are welcome to send a follow req.

aisling knows how to play the lyre. she was taught by lugh, the god of the arts among other things. she hasn’t played it in centuries and is probably horrid at it now due to a lack of practice, but back when she wasn’t that bad.

she made her clothes (mainly because there was no one else in her forest to make them for her). it took her a while to figure out how to, since it wasn’t something she’d been taught, but eventually she got it. now she’s a pro.
