Fauna Fae || Eighty-Six || Music Teacher || Magical
Faunaâs view of magic is that itâs a blessing. Of course, most would when they have Fae blood. Faerie blood, a bloodline full of magic, going back to the days before the Rose. When she was young, Fauna was told that her bloodline was a gift; her powers were a gift. And so thatâs what she believed. The magic of the Fae is almost that of eternal youth. Or just aging at a much slower rate. Fauna grew to be about eighteen at the same rate as her peers, and then slowly she began to realize that they were all growing older, and she wasnât changing at all. But she still never doubted that her magic was a gift. As she grew, she found two sisters also blessed with Fae blood; Mary and Flora. Though the other two didnât appear much younger than her, she knew looks could be deceiving. Fauna loved having sisters, but Mary and Flora were prone to bickering. Fauna often found herself being the voice of reason between the three. But she didnât mind, she liked being a peacemaker. While just possessing powerful magic, all Fae had a special gift, and Faunaâs was that of song. Not only could she create enchanting melodies that could either lull people to sleep or persuade them or really anything she desired just by humming a tune or playing an instrument, but she could also hear the music of the world. She could hear the singing of a river, or the melody of the flowers and the stars. Music fueled her magic, it recharged her when she was out of energy. It breathed life into everything she did and everything she was. And she treasured that. She started teaching private music lessons to anyone that would have them; she wanted to share this gift with as many as she could.
Another woman with Fae blood was a woman named Maleficent. She was older than Fauna and her sisters and more powerful. And her magic was dark and twisted. It broke Faunaâs heart to see the magic she loved so much. She had tried reasoning with Maleficent, but it was to no avail. The woman was darkened to her core, and no amount of magic could change that. So when the sisters got word of a man looking for someone to protect his child from Maleficent, Fauna immediately agreed to help. She and her sisters took the baby, Aurora, into their care, and raised her. Fauna acted as her aunt, while Flora and Maryâwho both appeared youngerâ acted as her cousins. They called her Briar, as Maleficentâs curse was specifically on Aurora. It was Mary, who watched too many law shows for her own good, that pointed out this contingency. Flora and Fauna agreed to this. They just had to get Aurora past her sixteenth birthday, and then the curse would be broken. But it didnât work out that way. Aurora found out the truth about herself and ran away, just in time for Maleficent to find her and finish the curse.Â
The spell she had put on Aurora was a strong one, for sure, but it wasnât unbearable. It had the potential to put those she cared for to sleep if she touched them. But it didnât work on Fauna or her sisters. They gathered that it probably wouldnât work on anyone with magic. Probably so she couldnât use it against Maleficent. Because there was no risk in harming the Fae sisters, Aurora continued to live with them. Fauna tries to make her life as happy and easy as possible, always trying to surprise her with baked goods or sweet melodies. And as much as she believes all magics can be used for good, Fauna has to admit that there is something dark about the power Aurora has. She found it has the potential to grow, either with Aurora gaining control to be able to say when she could put people to sleep or the chance that she could learn to control how long she was able to put people to sleep. Both could have dark sides to them, but Aurora was a sweetheart. She would never go down such a dark path. At least thatâs what Fauna has to hope.
Magic is a beautiful gift. Itâs light, itâs lovely, and Fauna absolutely adores it. She wishes everyone else was more open to the idea of it and that people didnât try to use it for such dark and nefarious purposes.
Sally Finklestein: A sweet woman who also seems to have a bit of a troubled past. Fauna doesnât like to pry, but she feels a lot of empathy towards her. And she knows she has a strong brand of magic herself, so she does her best to keep up with her by visiting her shop and always being a friendly face that she hopes she knows she can turn to.
Fawn Fields: She can hear the way the birds sing differently around her, and it always almost seems like Fawn is singing back. Fauna is interested to know what sort of powers she has, and would love to get to know her better.
Merida DunBroch: She was hired as her music teacher when Merida was young. Merida had no interest in learning the tunes Fauna prepared and instead just wanted to talk about magic and fighting and how far she shot her arrow. Fauna would always listen with delight, reveling in her enthusiasm about such things.
