The story succeeds less as a murder mystery than as a satire of human nature. Rupert Holmes creates an irresistible premise, fills it with wit, clever foreshadowing, memorable aphorisms, and an unforgettable protagonist in Cliff, but stretches three interconnected novellas into one novel. The result is a story with an excellent beginning, a middle that lingers too long, and endings that occasionally arrive too quickly. Its greatest reward isn’t discovering who lives or dies, but noticing the observations about ambition, power, manipulation, grief, justice, and human weakness hidden beneath its dark comedy. The book serves as a commentary on people disguised as a murder manual. Furthermore, it also explores the idea of how people exploited each other and how institutions enabled that exploitation. So no is not necessarily a book on how to kill but more of a satire in criticism of society that honestly echoes a lot of the things that we still see today.

Overall, for me is a good 3.5 out of five it was fun, clever and witty, and I also enjoyed my time at McMasters.
