everyone has horror stories

“i know what skylar’s like, would much rather it be coming from me than him.” he said to the man. skylar was all about his work and honestly so was caleb, thats why he was doing this. “also another thing –– one of my med staff said they saw your daughter taking supplies from out tent, no idea what for but perhaps you could look into it.”

“well shit.” erik said with a slow nod as he watched frank, his arms crossing over his chest. “well be prepared to hear a lot of complaining because that’s all that’ll be coming from him.”

“thats bullshit.” raina said as she looked over at him. god she felt like a child and she hated it. she understood that what happened to her brother was bad but she knew what she was doing and had learnt from his mistakes. “you are treating me like i’m a god damn child.”

                                  there   was   respect   for   the   man,   which   was   rare   for   axel. he didn’t respect many and even those he did, he never listened to them. ( he always had trouble with authority ) but frank was someone he respect and listened to [ for the most part ]. unless frank something he TRULLY didn’t agree with, axel would continue to listen to him. so when he heard that frank didn’t want people going it, axel wouldn’t go out. he was glad madelyn and even skylar were okay, not that he cared for either of them, but he didn’t wish harm on the group. he was on his way to train.. it’s what he normally did when he was doing nothing. figured he’d be ready for when they were allowed to leave again. he hadn’t been paying attention, if he was honest, he just kept thinking of going out, even if he couldn’t yet. “ shit, sorry. ” and he was. “ yeah, just distracted. i guess. ”

“ Would you agree to it if you were with me then? ” There were no other alternatives that would suffice, he needed to go up against the real thing. Practising on random still objects or even moving objects just wasn’t good enough. Being in front of one of those things, that is real, along with the fear and the physical anxiety that came with it. There was no preparing for that properly in the safety of the province and no one inside the province could prepare him just by merely describing what it’s like to face them. He needed to see firsthand. And if there was anything Boone ABHORRED the most, that was being treated like a weak adolescent, he wouldn’t stand for it. 

The disappointment was visible in his demeanor as he irritably ran his tongue along the bottom rows of his teeth, a singular gaze dropped to the floor and he nodded weakly. The male tucked long dark locks behind his ear, taking a deep breath before exhaling through his nostrils frustratedly. His father’s concerns were valid, after losing his mother and a FOOLISH self-caused incident that left the boy with a permanent disfigurement on his face… Boone couldn’t be entirely upset with his father for the need of protecting his own and ensuring their safety. However, Boone was no longer a child, and he needed to understand that. Meeting the older male’s gaze, Boone’s expression grew serious, carefully thinking about how to further this discussion calmly and maturely without it turning into a dispute. “ I get it. After what’s happened to me, you don’t want to take the risk of me getting hurt. But you have to realize… everyone can’t be saved always and you can’t protect me from it. I need to learn how to protect myself. ”

A light shake of his head and a small amused smile was the only reaction he could offer to his father’s age comment. He could never perceive his father as an OLD MAN. Since a child, the young male always had a high regard of his dear father, he possessed many admirable traits and standards that Boone always tried to live up to. A soft chuckle fell from his lips “ I don’t think you’ll have anything to worry about, ” Boone stated as he approached the older male. “ Ehh, nothing exciting, that’s for sure. I was just reading one of the biology books from the library…” his tone was laced with boredom and a sigh soon followed. With one of the punching bags hanging near him, he glanced at it, suddenly balling up one of his hands into a fist and threw a not so hard punch into it. Turning to face his father, there was a question he’d been meaning to ask, though he was certain of the answer he’d receive. It was almost pointless to even bother, but it was worth a try. “ Dad, I’d like to practice with my bow, but I wanna practice shooting real targets, I wanna practice on the roamers. ”

caleb looked over at the man as they found their place in a more secluded area. “without being in pain? not a lot, he can sit at a desk, with being in minimal pain he could at least lift a few boxes.”

the girl instantly rolled her eyes, her arms crossing over her chest. “you would let everyone else go out there why not me? i can handle myself.” she said trying to defend herself. “their a bunch of dumbasses that wouldn’t know the difference between a car engine and a computer engine.”

“relax – i learnt to stop taking my anger out on people a long time ago.” erik said as he looked at frank. he respected the other man, more than he respected a few of the people stuck in this place. erik scoffed before shaking his head. “you know he won’t like that – he can’t just do nothing, it isn’t him.”

“dad –– i need to actually go with the scavengers this time, they have no idea what i need and its hard to describe.” she said to him as she watched him take off his wraps. “well the only options of the funny one are between me and boone and he’s as funny as a brick wall.”

raina had been doing the rounds, checking of all of the equipment that she needed to before going and seeing her dad, leaning against the doorway as she looked over at him. “just making sure you aren’t breaking yourself.” she said to him as she walked into the room. “also –– one of the generators broke, i need to go out there and pick up some new pieces for it.”

There were odd sounds of loud snapping and thuds followed by grunts nearby. A dark eyebrow creased curiously, his head lifting from a biology textbook he’d found in their library. Disrupted from his personal studies, the young male’s curiosity had been piqued. Leaving the book behind, he was immediately drawn by the continuous unfamiliar sounds. Drawing closer to the source of the loud noises, he stood near the entryway, a singular gaze upon his father. The young male’s facial features relaxed but were still slightly inquisitive. “ No. I didn’t expect to find you here punching bags. ”  Boone answered, the corners of his mouth slightly pulled into a playful smile. His father was generally a serious man but his demeanor appeared a little more sombre than usual. “ Everything okay, dad? I hope you’re not picturing anyone on that bag. ”

“ Nah, that won’t be necessary. It’s just a little cut, I can take care of it myself. ” His interactions with Frank had been few and far between but the older male was usually pleasant with Loren. While he appreciated Frank’s concern, he was in need to disappear from the others for awhile and tend to his own wound. He felt the warm liquid beginning to slide down his chest, crimson spots gradually appearing on his own t-shirt underneath navy blue garment in his grip.
