[Faya sat at the bar, checking her lipstick in the mirror as she waited for her boyfriend to return from the car where heâd forgotten something. This club was one of the nicer ones she had been to in a while and she was looking forward to really getting to enjoy it. That was of course if Dillon would hurry the hell up. After a couple minutes of waiting she decided to go ahead and order herself a drink, taking a sip of the jack and coke once it was in her hand. Faya glanced towards the door, hoping to see her date walking in what she certainly hadnât been expecting though was to see instead Eric walking in. Oh, great. This was just what she needed. She saw enough of him at school lately she did not need to see him when she was out trying to relax and have some fun. Really this was just her luck and maybe God was trying to punish her for something she had done, whatever that may be. Hoping he hadnât noticed her she turned her back to him and looked towards the bartender, watching him mix drinks as she quietly drank her own.]
ericwilder:
He still just kept waiting for the moment that Faya lost it and started yelling at him. He knew she could do the math in her head. It was obvious that Savannah wasnât conceived long after the two of them broke up. He just hoped at this point that she wasnât thinking that Savannah was a result of him cheating. After all the shit that he had put her though, he wouldnât be surprised if that was a thought she had. It wasnât exactly a secret that he had cheated on girlfriendâs before. The thought had never crossed his mind with Faya though. Even back in high school, he had cared too much about her. She didnât deserve to be disrespected like that. Part of Eric wanted to reassure her of that, but he didnât want to get into it. Also, he was fairly sure she didnât want to get into it either. Especially not now when there would be other parents walking in to meet her at any moment. As much as he knew they needed to talk about it, he definitely didnât want to do it now. Eric knew she had to be nervous about this, and he didnât want to make it any worse than he already was. He just hoped that with time they would be able to work past this. Now that he was being given a second chance, he had no desire to waste it. Eric was going to do anything he could to show her that he was a changed man. That would take a lot though he was finding out. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck as she spoke. âUh, no, I guess not. To be honest I was kind of expecting a slap or something similar.â He admitted, giving her a little half smile. âI have definitely learned that in the past five years. Canât tell you how many times Iâve found her messing around and drawing on my business papers.â Eric said as he smiled fondly at his daughter. âSo youâve got a nephew now?"Â
There was a big part of Faya that wanted to as Eric about his daughterâs mom. She wasnât quite sure she wanted the answer though and anyways it wasnât any of her business. Things had been over between them for a long time now and there was no need bringing up the past. If she could help it this would only be a causal seeing each other just for school and being as friendly as she could be until he was gone.  There was something though that made her feel like it wasnât going to be that easy. As much as she didnât want to admit it, feelings she had kept buried deep down were already starting to resurface in their short time together. And that was bound to only get worse the more time she had to spend around him, right? It didnât help that most of the feelings he was bringing up werenât great ones. Faya had felt this much anger and jealously in a long time. It was something she was going to have to work to get passed, but looking at his little girl play in her room made her think that the jealously aspect would be made a lot easier the more she was around her. It wasnât the childâs fault that her father had been the best and worst thing to ever happen to her. âAs fun as that sounds I wouldnât dream of doing so in front of your daughter.â She said, sighing softly.  She nodded at his question, still keeping her eyes on Savannah; it was easier to look at her than it was to look at him. âAnd two nieces. My sisters been pretty busy.â She joked slightly though it certainly wasnât a lie. Her sister Amber had been pregnant three times in the last four years. It had been a shock considering her sister had always been the one who said she never wanted children, now they were her entire world and she had to admit that she was a bit jealous. âLook Iâm going to have other parents in here any second .  .  .âÂ
Eric really had so many questions he wanted to ask her. All of them about her. What she had been doing, what she had done after high school, after they had broken up. Was there someone special in her life now, did she have any kids of her own like he did, though he assumed none as old as Savannah was. She hadnât seemed the type in high school, and he doubted that she was now. All of these questions and more were just constantly swimming around inside of his head in a gigantic circle, begging to be asked, and he had a hard time keeping them down. He knew though, that he had no right. No right to know anything about her. He had given up any hope of that the second that he dumped her. Still, that didnât mean that he didnât want to ask them. Eric wanted to know if he even had a chance of possibly making up all of his mistakes to her. He had to admit though, right now the odds definitely did not seem as if they were in his favor. Not according to the hostility he could definitely still sense in her tone. He couldnât deny that her words tugged at him just a little and a sad smile formed on his face. âYou hate me that much, huh?â Eric asked her, knowing thatâs where he had to stand at this point, and honestly not blaming her for it. He deserved to be hated for what he had done. After his attention was back on Faya he laughed slightly at her words. âOh, believe me, I know. You should have seen her when her Uncle Spencer fell asleep, and she wanted to make cookies while I was at work. I still donât understand how she got flour on the ceiling.â He said, shaking his head slightly.
All Faya wanted to do was be pissed, wanted to throw him out of her classroom and tell him that she never wanted to see him again. She knew of course she couldnât do that and she wouldnât ever dream of doing so with his little girl in the room. Everything that had happened between the two of them had nothing to do with her and there was no need for her to be punished for her own stupid feelings. She was mad though, so very mad, but also curious. Faya wanted to ask him more about his daughter, but she had a feeling that would just make her a little angrier. The little girl was obviously not conceived too long after Eric had left her and that hurt her more than she cared to admit. She knew she didnât need to know anything about him anyways. He was her past and she had worked hard to keep him there. Just because his daughter was now going to be in her classroom didnât mean that she had to have anything to do with him other than him dropping off his kid and picking her up. She had a feeling though that he wasnât going to make things that easy for her. He had never been one to make things easy for her. It had been something she had hated and loved about him in the past but now she just hoped she wouldnât have to deal with any of that. She wanted to see him as little as possible. âDid you expect me jump for joy when you walked in the room?â She asked him. Faya wanted to tell him that she did in fact hate him but she wasnât big on telling lies. âI think little kids just love getting things in places that you think they could never get. My nephew likes do it often.â She said, watching Savannah.
She was just his daughterâs teacher. Oh how he wished it could be that simple. It would be so great just to be able to look at her and think of her as his daughterâs teacher, but he knew that would never be possible. Not with their history, and not with the way that he so desperately wanted her to be more than that. Eric would never be able to think of âthe one that got awayâ as just his daughterâs teacher. No, he still had it terribly bad for her, and if this little meeting had showed him anything, it was that his feelings for her hadnât changed even though hers for him definitely had. He assumed as much after all the pain he put her through. Not to mention the way she had reacted and how she still was reacting to him. It was plainly obvious that she had no intentions of giving him a second chance at the moment. Eric wasnât surprised, but that didnât mean that he was going to give up. No, it just meant that he had to work for it, something he hadnât done in a long time. It would be a challenge, but one that he was definitely welcoming. âYouâll never just be my daughterâs teacher, Faya,â he said, shaking his head slightly at her before being distracted by his daughter reaching for something on a shelf, which wouldnât be so bad if she wasnât about to climb on top of something to get it. âOi, Savannah,â the girl turned to him with a sheepish grin. âDonât even think about it, munchkin.â He said, pointing the âparent fingerâ at her. She pouted at him which immediately melted his fake stern façade. Eric hurried over to her and gave her the object. âNo, climbing on things, okay, baby?â She nodded, happy with the toy, and Eric kissed the top of her head. âSorry about that,â he said to Faya once he walked back over to her. âSheâs a really good kid. She just gets into mischief sometimes.â
Why couldnât this just be easy? She desperately wished she could rewind time, to change the course of life actually and have Eric Wilder never walk into her classroom, to not have his daughter playing around in her room. She was beautiful and favored him and it would be a complete lie to say that it didnât break her heart a little. When she was younger she had been so naĂŻve, so stupid to think that she could be the one to make this man settle down, to someday have a family with him. But no he had left her and had this beautiful little girl with someone else. She wanted to hate him for it, but how could she hate him just because he brought a gorgeous little soul into the world. No she would never hate him for that, she decided, she would just hate him for everything else he had done. And in her opinion there was plenty to choose from. Mostly though she just hated him for breaking her heart, or at least thatâs what she told herself. Faya wasnât sure if she wouldnât ever truly be able to hate him like she wanted to, but she sure as hell had a strong dislike for him at the moment. âHow I wish I could be.â She said, sighing softly and running her hand through her hair. Her attention was quickly adverted as she watched him help Savannah with something she had been reaching for, a little embarrassed with herself for not paying attention, letting Eric distract her like he had managed to. âDonât worry about it. Sheâs a child. Getting into things is their specialty.â

He really just wanted to keep staring at her, taking in everything, even the little things about her trying to discover what all had changed since he had seen her last. There was so much he wanted to know, so many questions that he wanted to ask her, but he knew that he had absolutely no right to do that, and she would probably point out that point very quickly if he had attempted to ask. At the same time though, he couldnât help but wonder if this was the universeâs way of somehow giving him a second chance with her. That was one of the things that he had hoped for pretty much since they had broken up. A chance to show her just how much he had changed, so that he could prove he was the right one for her. After all, he knew she was the right one for him, and if this was his chance, he was going to do his very best to take it. No matter what that meant he had to do. He did have to wonder though just how much she still hated him. Eric knew that she had hated him before, but he wondered just how strong that hatred was now, years later, or if she had completely just forgotten about him and moved on. A hopefully subtle glance to her left hand showed that she was not in fact wearing a ring, so Eric considered that was in his favor at least, even if nothing else was. âI know. I trust her with you.â Eric told her honestly, smiling softly as Savannah was distracted by various things in the classroom, beginning to look more and more excited with each passing moment. Eric sighed softly, but nodded. âI just want you to know Iâm not like I was then. I hope youâll let me show you that.â He told her, and he sincerely hoped she did.
When she woke up this morning her having her first love show up in her classroom had most definitely not been on her mind. Honestly a part of her had always thought she would never see Eric again and though that had saddened her a little it was also something she hoped for. Faya had spent so much time thinking about him after he had broken up with her and she had finally gotten herself in a good spot and had always known that him coming back into her life would cause trouble and pain for her. If she was being honest with herself though she had always had a small amount of hope that he would come back and that things would be different, that he would be different and that they could be together again. That was just a fantasy of course and knew it would never happen. Â She also knew seeing him every day now was going to be hard. Not to mention having his daughter in her class. The little girl would be a constant reminder of what she lost and how quickly he had moved on. She knew of course that none of this was that beautiful little girls fault and she would never make it out to be. Savannah would be treated no differently than any of her other students and she hoped Eric knew that. She would never take her animosity for her father out on her. Â âIt doesnât really matter, Eric. I donât need you to show me. Iâm just your daughterâs teacher now thatâs all.â She said, sighing as she glanced over at Savannah.
ericwilder:
For the first time in a long time, Eric was finding himselfnervous. Eric had always been a confident guy, a guy who had no problems withhimself or any types of nerves ever. There were only a few times in his lifethat Eric could recall being nervous and almost all of them were around Faya. She had always managed to have that effect on him, but Eric had thought giventhe time and distance between the two of them, that maybe that would havediminished somewhat, but as he was quickly learning, that was not true at all.No, she was still able to make him a nervous wreck with just a few glances. Itwas a little embarrassing honestly, but Eric couldnât take his eyes off her.She was still the most beautiful woman that he had ever seen, even more so nowthat she had grown up into her body a little more. He knew it had to be alittle awkward. He was definitely feeling the awkwardness even though he wishedthat he wasnât. He didnât figure that there was any way for it not to beawkward when you ran into an ex. Especially when said ex was the one you spentyour whole life thinking of as the traditional âone that got awayâ or in hiscase, that he pushed away. He tried to focus back on the conversation as hiseyes drew back to Savannah, making sure that she was okay. âIâm sure I can. Itâsjust going to be tough, but I trust you to take care of her.â Eric told herhonestly, turning his gaze back to her just in time to watch her run herfingers through her now short hair. It was so different from the long lengthsof high school, but it suited her. A small frown fell on his lips at her tone, but he knew he deserved it and probably so much worse. âIs there any way we canmake it less awkward? I mean ⊠weâre probably going to be seeing a lot ofeach other this year.â Eric pointed out, biting his lip while he looked at her.
Faya hated so much that he still had an effect on her. She had been so sure that she was over him, okay maybe she hadnât been completely sure but she had never expected for her heart to race like this if she had ever saw him again. Of course she had been counting on never seeing him again, it was part of the reason she hadnât let herself completely get over him. She had thought that maybe if she never saw him again it would be okay to still keep a little piece of him with her. That was so stupid of course, she knew that, but he had been such a big part of her life and when he walked away from her it had been harder than she had expected to just completely let him go. A completely other part of her though was so ridiculously mad, madder than she had been in along time. Looking at him brought back so many memories of things she didnât want to think about. Faya never expected after all this time that it would still hurt like it did, but her heart was certainly being reminded that time doesnât heal all wounds. And God why did he have to still be so good looking?Actually she was pretty sure he was even better looking now than he was when they were in high school. He had certainly grown into himself, had a more mature aura to him, something he was sure his little girl had a lot to do with. âSheâll be safe with me. I can promise you that.â She told him, looking over at Savannah before turning back towards him. âWe just have to be civil is all. I donât think thereâs any making this less awkward.â
Eric couldnât think of the last time that he had actually thought about his past in great detail like his memory was assaulting him with now. Lots of images through high school mostly. Parties, drinking, arms wrapped around each other, sneaking off to make out with each other during classes, and not to mention the amazing sex which had always been Ericâs favorite part of their relationship. He wasnât only just remembering the good things though, no, the bad things were interwoven with those memories as well. The way she had looked at him after she had told him she was in love with him, and he hadnât said anything back. Not to mention the way she had reacted when they had broken up, and she saw him flirting with another girl. That had definitely not been one of his best moments, and he cringed a little right now, just thinking about it, but quickly turned his attention back to the situation at hand. He bit his lip as he continued to look at her. He really thought that he would never see her again, and seeing her now definitely just reminded him of everything that he had given up because he had been an afraid and messed up kid. It was kind of ironic when he thought about it. He had been so afraid of commitment, and then he had ended up with a daughter. He still hadnât made any progress in his other types of relationship though, that hadnât changed much. His attentions had mostly been focused on his daughter, and his business, and that meant that he usually stuck to his high school self with one night stands. Of course he was a lot more careful now. One daughter was enough for now. âIâm not okay with it, but Spencer is. I just donât know if I can get okay with it right now. I know she has to go to school, but itâs just ⊠going to be harder than expected I think.â Eric shuffled around from one foot to the other a little uncomfortably. âI figured that would match up with the timeline with college and everything . . .â Eric bit his lip before letting out a sigh. âI guess thereâs no point in pretending this isnât awkward, right?â He said finally.
All these memories were bringing back so many mixed emotions. Everyone always said high school was the best years of your life and she had always rolled her eyes at that when she was young, but as cheesy as it sounded high school really had been some of the best years of her life. Her relationship with Eric had been so important to her and she had been so happy with him before her feelings for him had to go and get all complicated. High school had been some of her best times but also some of her worst. She had loved Eric so much and when he left her because of it, it had really messed her up. She had just been glad that she had college to distract her after the breakup and he obviously had his own set of distractions as well she thought to herself as she looked over at his little girl. Faya couldnât help but think that he probably hadnât really needed any distraction from her in the first place. She had moved on though of course, and couldnât blame him for doing the same. âIt will be hard at first but Iâm sure you can do it.â She told him, running her fingers through her hair and trying not to think about how cute he sounded worrying about his daughter. Faya looked over at him at his next statement though, her arms tightening slightly across her chest. âYeah there really is no need to pretend this isnât awkward because itâs very awkward.â She said, her tone slightly clipped. She shook her head at herself. Now was not the time to get all pissed at him. She tried to tell herself that she had no reason to be mad at him anyways. It had been so long since they had broken up and she should be past it. She was quickly finding out though that she hadnât moved past it as much as she thought she had.
Eric was trying to keep his mind focused on the task at hand, looking around the room and making sure that Savannah was comfortable, but it was harder than he thought it would be to keep his mind focused. Of course when he had walked into the school that night he hadnât suspected that his ex-girlfriend would be her teacher. The thing was, Eric knew if it had been any of his other exes, Eric wouldnât have cared. He had his fair share, several actually, but Faya was different. She was the one he regretted getting away the most. She was the one that was always in the back of his mind, and she was the one he was usually comparing any of his dates too. They always fell so miserably short and to this day, breaking up with Faya was one of the biggest regrets in his life, but at the same time, he knew that it was a complicated situation because if he had never broken up with Faya, he never would have had Savannah, and he couldnât ever regret his little girl. She was everything great and amazing in his life, and he wouldnât trade her for anything. At his thoughts, Eric glanced at Savannah who was looking around the room curiously, and Eric could tell she was itching to explore. Eric gently set her down on the ground and spoke to her. âWhy donât you go explore a bit? Iâm sure Miss. Song wonât mind.â Eric said, ruffling her hair affectionately, grinning when she pouted and swatted at his hand, looking up at Faya to make sure it was okay. âI know, I trust you.â Eric said, and he did. He definitely trusted Faya to take care of her, even though the thought of leaving her still made him sick. âI know itâs just ⊠it doesnât make it easier. Iâm kind of really worried how sheâs going to adjust to this honestly.â He said, running a hand through his hair as he watched her. âIâd definitely like to. During the day is usually the only time I could really see her before because of my job, so itâs going to be a little strange. Iâll always be here to drop her off and pick her up though, you donât have to worry about that.â Eric told her, and without Savannah to truly distract him, even though he still kept a watchful eye over his girl, he glanced up and down at Faya, briefly, smiling softly at her. âIs this your first class?â He asked curiously.
Faya was doing her best to keep her mind from wandering to the past. The last thing she wanted to think about right now was her relationship with Eric, not when he was standing right her next to him. She couldnât help herself though and so many emotions and memories were flooding back to her. The more she thought about it the more she could feel some anger bubbling up inside her, and that was definitely not what she wanted right not. Not when his daughter was in the room, but the fact that he even had a daughter in the first place just made her even more on edge. The little girl had to have been born no more than a year after they had broken up meaning he had wasted no time in moving on from her. The thought definitely hurt but she refused to think about that. She knew she shouldnât be upset. He had every right to move on and she shouldnât be surprised seeing as the whole reason they had broken up was because he hadnât been as into her as she had been into him. She had let those three damn little words slip and she had lost him for it. Ever since she had always been cautious with her feelings for other guys, not wanting to fall too hard and end up getting her heart broken again. It always ended up being a good thing seeing as she always seemed to have to worst luck with guys. It had become a reoccurring problem with her and she was starting to think she should just take a break from trying to date anyone. Faya shook her head slightly at herself and focused back on the conversation, watching as Savannah walked away to explore the room. âIâm sure sheâll be just fine but if youâre not okay with it she most likely wonât be either. Sheâll feel your energy about it. Iâll do my best to make sure she adjust though and I bet sheâll do great.â She said. She becoming a little more closed off from him as the conversation became focused on her. She nodded her head to his question, running her brings through her hair before crossing her arms protectively across her chest. âYeah, this will be my first class.â She told him, glancing over at him.
ericwilder:
Eric couldnât deny that he had definitely thought about Faya. Pretty much since he could notice girls Faya had always had his attention. She was just so beautiful and smart and sassy, and for as long as he could remember he had feelings for it. Most of his friends had thought it was because she had always said no to him, and he was just obsessed with the chase, but it had never been about that. It was always just her. She had always captured his attention when she walked into a room, and Eric didnât ever think that would change. It certainly hadnât once she had finally agreed to a date with him, in fact his constant thoughts about her had just gotten worse, and even when they had broken up, he was almost always trying to forget her, but sheâd always be in his mind. When Savannah came along, he had been able to push her back a little, but she was always there. Eric had the distinct impression that it was about to just come back to haunt him again now that he would be seeing much more of her, because Eric was determined to be as big of a part of Savannahâs schooling as she would let him. Eric smiled as Savannah visibly relaxed at Fayaâs words, and he rubbed her back, pressing a kiss to her cheek. He took a calming breath as she told him to relax. âI know, youâll take care of her. You have no idea how much relief I feel right now knowing youâll be her teacher honestly. I just ⊠havenât been away from her for longer than a few hours well ⊠ever.â He told her, biting his lip. He smiled at her words, but it quickly turned to a bit of a pout. âWhy not?â Eric asked, âbut yes, Iâll definitely be there for the parent days, and anything you need help with parent wise, go ahead and sign me up, and Iâll be here no matter what. Whether itâs with reading or career day, or just well ⊠lifting heavy stuff I guess -â he laughed a little awkwardly. â-Whatever it is, Iâll help.â Eric assured her.
Right now Faya was having a hard time keeping the thoughts of Eric breaking up with her from infiltrating her mind. It definitely wasnât something she wanted to think about right now, or ever really. The memory was one of her worst and it still hurt every time she thought about it, and seeing him standing there just made it even worse. At the same time though there were all the feelings of how happy he used to make her. No guy since had ever made her feel as happy as he did, and she had found that every time she dated anymore she would compare them to him a little. She knew that it wasnât fair but she couldnât help it and she very much wished that she could. She didnât want to think about Eric anymore. They hadnât seen each other in years and she shouldnât still feel this strongly about him, but she did. Her feelings were just as strong as they were when they were kids. She had to stop thinking about him though, this wasnât the time or place to be having these feelings and she told herself that she needed to keep it all at bay at least until he was gone. Then she could go home and think about him nonstop because she knew that was exactly what was going to happen. Faya smiled softly again as he kissed Savannahâs cheek. God, why did he have to be so cute as a dad? âWell I promise sheâll be safe with me. Iâve got a pretty small class so sheâll be well looked after.â She assured him. âBecause she needs to learn how to function without you, and if you come in everyday it will be hard for her to do that. Still though like I said you can come as often as you want, and youâre more than welcome to help with classroom things. All the parents are given that option.â She told him, not too sure how she felt about him coming in to help out with things in the class. She didnât want to encourage him not to but she knew it would be rough seeing him a lot during the day. At the same time though she kind of hoped he would take up some classroom duties so she could see him more often. She could tell already that these mixed emotions about him were going to drive her crazy.

She seriously did look absolutely amazing. It had been a long time since Eric had seen her, and she just looked absolutely breath taking. He still couldnât believe that this situation was actually happening. That she was Savannahâs teacher, and to some extent, he was kind of glad. He already knew that he was going to have a horrible time letting her go to school on her own, and it was nice to know that the person that she was going to have looking after her, was someone he knew and trusted. Even if Faya hated him, which she might, and would be totally justified in doing, he knew that she wouldnât ever take it out on Savannah. Not to mention thinking about her as a teacher definitely wasnât something that surprised him. She was definitely caring and patient enough to be good at it, and it definitely eased his nerves a bit. Not completely, but a bit. âYou know, Savannah, Miss. Song is a very nice lady, I actually know her.â He stage whispered to his daughter, and she pulled back from his neck, surprised. âYou do?â She asked, sounding shocked. âYep, and sheâs going to take great care of you when you start school, so donât you want to greet her a little better?â He suggested, rubbing her back comfortably as she finally turned and looked at Faya for real. âHi, Miss. Song, itâs nice to meet you too,â She said, waving briefly and smiling, but still keeping an arm around her father. âYouâre welcome,â Eric replied, tightening his grip slightly on Savannah in his nerves having no idea what to say. âI um ⊠I have a list of her allergies and emergency contacts. My cell, we donât have a house number, and well Spencerâs. You remember Spencer, right?â He asked, referring to his high school best friend who was still his best friend today. âHeâs her Godfather, and I put the number for her pediatrician too. Do you have any visiting days? I mean ⊠Iâd like to come see her sometimes.â Eric rambled, which was oh so unlike him, but he felt like a bit of a mess after seeing her, and then once again being confronted by the fact that he wouldnât be getting to spend all of his days with Savannah anymore.Â
Whenever she had found herself thinking about him she had always just really let herself think about how things were with them in high school. She had sometimes wondered what he was doing now but she tried not to focus on that too much because she didnât want to imagine him with someone else and she always figured he was with someone else. She suddenly wondered if maybe he was married, but she didnât notice a ring on his finger and she certainly wasnât going to ask him about it. It wasnât a thought that sat very well with her and she tried not to let herself focus on it. Still though she wondered why his little girls mother wasnât here, but let it go telling herself that she might find out eventually. Why did she even care though? She shouldnât be concerned at all about his life and what was going on in it. All she would focus on was making his Savannah was taken care of while she was here at school and wouldnât let herself worry about her fathers personal life. She couldnât help the small smile that graced her lips as he spoke to the little girl in his arms, noticing just how much she looked at him now that she could get a good look at her face. âYour daddy is right and I do promise to take very good care of you while youâre here with me.â She told her, her smile growing slightly. Faya shook her head slightly at his rambling. Okay, that was pretty adorable and she had to once again force herself to focus. âEric relax. Sheâs going to be fine and youâll know Iâll take care of her. Well technically you could come see her everyday at lunch if you wanted to, though I wouldnât suggest that. And Iâll also have days throughout the year where parents can come in.â She said, smiling slightly at him. Seeing this side of him, this side that was so incredibly worried about his little girl, was definitely a little bit of a shock for her but she had to admit that fatherhood looked good on him. She had always known that he would make a good dad someday.Â

Ericâs eyes widened as he finally came face to face with his daughterâs new teacher, and he almost wanted to laugh at the irony. Of course, his amazing, beautiful, one that got away, ex-girlfriend who he had broken up with because he couldnât commit to her was his Savannahâs pre-school teacher. That was usually the way life managed to fuck you up right? The girl he couldnât commit to having to spend every day with the biggest commitment in his life. Some part of his brain realized that it wouldnât take her long to figure up the dates and realize he had to have had sex with someone not too long after they broke up, and then the other part of his brain was telling him she was probably thinking that he was such an asshole right now. The biggest part of his brain though was telling him he must look like a complete idiot staring at her, and he quickly shook himself of his thoughts. He had to fight back a laugh as she walked towards him. Was she seriously pretending she didnât know him? Eric had seen the recognition in her eyes when she looked at him. His attention was distracted though by Savannah who at Fayaâs question buried her face in her dadâs shoulder shyly. âThis is Savannah. Sheâs a little shy,â he said, reaching for her hand to shake. âUntil you get to know her, and then she wonât stop talking.â Eric teased her, grinning as his daughter pulled back slightly to pout at him before hiding her face again. âSavannah, say hi to Miss. Song.â Eric told her, and eventually Savannah murmured a soft hi, clinging to Ericâs neck tightly. He took the momentary distraction of his daughter speaking to look over at Faya. Her hair was shorter, her body a little more fit, but she looked pretty much the same. âYou look good, Faya,â He told her, smiling softly at her.
Of course this had to be happening right now. Every possible thing that had run through her mind that could have possibly happened today, this was certainly not one of them. The only guy to have ever majorly broken her heart had to be a parent in her classroom. God, why was this happening right now? Thoughts of him leaving her, something she hadnât let herself think about in forever, started assaulting her mind and she had to work hard to push them out. It wasnât easy though and she couldn't quite get them to go away. Faya also couldnât help but think about his daughter. He sure didnât waste any time moving on from her after they had broken up. She felt another wave of hurt wash through her and to her embarrassment a little bit of jealously too. She had always stupidly thought that she would someday be the mother of his children. Of course she had been young and idiot then. When she thought about it now she knew that there was no way she would have been able to get him to settle down with her. Well she wouldnât have been able to accomplish it anyways, obviously someone had made a father out of him and she found herself wondering where the girls mother was. That was something she definitely didnât want to think about and she forced herself to focus back on Eric and his daughter. She suddenly felt stupid for acting like she didnât know who he was, there was no way he thought that she didnât remember him and she knew he remembered her too. âItâs very nice to meet you, Savannah.â She said, smiling softly as she watched how she buried her face into her dad. Faya tried not to focus her attention on Eric but when he spoke to her she knew she couldnât avoid looking at him, and damn she wished she could because he looked even better than she remembered him. And that was saying something because she had always thought he was the most attractive guy she had ever seen. âThank you. . .â She said simply, running a hand through her hair.

âAre you sure about this whole preschool thing? You donât want to stay home with daddy all day?â Eric asked his little four year old daughter who was walking beside him on the sidewalk, jumping over all of the cracks. âDaddy! Uncle Spencer says Iâve gotta go to school!â She chastised him. âBut we donât listen to Uncle Spencer, remember?â He reminded her, but she just crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him. âDonât look at me like that, young lady, you know what happens when you do.â She stuck her tongue out at him. Eric pointed his finger at her in a fake threatening tone. âOh, youâve done it now missy. The tickle monsterâs coming to get you.â He said, holding his hands out threateningly. She let out a squeal and started running up the steps inside the school, but before she could make it all the way inside, he caught her around the stomach, hoisting her in the air upside down, causing her to let out another squeal as he tickled her stomach and carried her inside, ignoring any strange looks in favor of smiling at his little girl. He followed the signs to Savannahâs classroom, putting her down once they reached the door. âYou going to be good when we meet your teacher, right?â He asked, bending down to her level and kissing the top of her head when she nodded. âDaddy?â She said when he started to walk inside. âYeah, baby?â She held her arms up, and never one to deny her anything, even though he knew he shouldnât, he picked her up into his arms, smiling when she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him close. âOkay, letâs go meet your new teacher.â He said, and brought his hand up, knocking on the door as he peeked inside. âUm, hi, I think this is my daughterâs room?â Eric asked, looking at the woman who was currently reading some paper on her desk.Â
Faya felt herself calming the longer she sat at her desk. She really was being ridiculous. She had done this before, sure it hadnât been her own class but she at least knew what to expect and would be able to handle this just fine. When she heard a knock at her door she stood up, straightening the papers on her desk before she looked up at her knew arrivals. For a second she felt herself freeze. No, no, there was no way that he was standing in her doorway right now. And with a kid on his hip? Nope, no way. This was not happening and even if it was she was going to pretending like it wasnât. So she stood of straighter, acting like she had no idea who this man was that had just walked into her classroom. Faya walked over to him, extending her hand to him and putting a smile onto her face. âHi, Iâm Miss Song. And you are?â She asked directing her question to the little girl in his arms.
Faya walked around her classroom, tiding things up nervously as she waited for her first parent to arrive. She had never expected meet the teacher night to be this nerve racking, but here she was ridiculously nervous and hoping that no one would be able to tell once they got there. This was her first time teaching her own class and though she was extremely excited she couldn't help but be nervous as well. Now that she really thought of it though she wasn't sure why she had thought this wouldn't be as stressful as it was. These parents were coming to check her out, make sure she wasn't some crazy that was going to be taking care of their children for the school year. She of course new she wasn't crazy but she had this small irrational fear that one of these parents would think she was. Faya quickly pushed those thoughts from her head though, reminding herself that she was great with children and adults and that she had nothing to worry about. The reminder made her relax a little and she sat down her desk to read through the names of her students again as she waited for the night to start.
