KEY POINTS / BIOGRAPHY
childhood and hogwarts years:Â
tw: postpartum depression, abuse & death
Fawn had been a disappointment to her parents the second she was born. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie were told that the twins that they were expecting were two boys: River and Forrest, except Forrest was Fawn. What a blessing it wouldâve been to have not one, but two perfect heirs. But no, she had to be born and she had to be the one who caused her mother postpartum depression. Or at least thatâs what everyone said and if everyone said it, then it mustâve been right.
Fawn and River grew up in a family who was always trying to fit in, who were always desperate to belong to the pureblood community, but the truth was that they were never going to be accepted, they would always be second class purebloods. The Guthrie last name would never be as powerful as the Blacks or the Lestranges. And that was something that didnât suit Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie right.
Whenever they werenât invited to a pureblood event, somehow, the blame would always fall on the kids, more often in Fawn than River. The punishment was brutal, but rarely physical. Their favorite method of punishment was getting into her mind and displaying horrible scenarios, âplay pretendâ her mother called it and whenever it was suggested, Fawnâs blood would turn cold.
When the sorting hat touched River' head, the hat chanted exactly what was expected of him: Slytherin. Unfortunately, the same did not happen with Fawn. What was even worse was the fact that the hat didnât touch her head, there was only one house for her and that was Hufflepuff. Once again, Fawn proved to her family that she was, indeed, a disappointment.
The years passed and while both siblings were in different houses, they were still as close as ever. River would sit down with her at the Hufflepuff table and eat together, or would sometimes invite her to the Slytherin table. The two of them were inseparable, you would never see one without the other. Everything that they did complemented or uplifted the other. River brewed potions and Fawn would find the necessary herbs and spices for him; River would be a quidditch promise while Fawnâs potential was in herbology and potions. But then fifth year came and everything changed.
It was the christmas break, right before their OWLs and her father had way too much to drink. It was unclear why the fight started, it was one of those nights in which her parents had been giving her hell for the pettiest things, plus they were angry they werenât invited to the Christmasâ ball organized by the Lestranges. Somehow, it was all reduced to Fawn being a Hufflepuff. It was always reduced to that, they werenât the brightest and they were quite primitive and not a single argument they made ever made sense, but the fear was deeply rooted in Fawn. But that night, instead of the usual verbal abuse, things got physical.Â
One push, thatâs all it took.
His father pushed River, River tripped and hit his head against the step of the staircase.
Fawn tried to wake him, she called his name, shook his body, she cried and begged for him to wake up but nothing happened. His heart wasnât beating anymore.
Gone.
No one outside the family really knows what happened the night after Riverâs funeral, all they know is that when it was time to go back to school, Fawn didnât show up at Kingâs Cross. The âaccidentalâ death of her brother caused her so much distress that she was sent to the US, to Salem, to recover with her aunts. That was the official story.
In reality, Fawn just left after practically destroying and pulverizing every single piece of furniture of the house in a fit of rage. Her emotions were so raw and overwhelming that she was unable to control her magic. After there was nothing left to destroy, Fawn grabbed her cloak and left her family home.
The first months she spent it on her own, wandering from town to town. It was a good thing she knew about herbology, she lived off plants for months. She met all kinds of people, good and bad. She lived in camps, in empty barns and broke into unused houses. She was forced to grow up in a short period of time and by the time there was no naivety in her, she met the man that would save her from falling into a pit of despair.
during the first wizarding war:Â
TW: cancer, death
Fawn met David when she was in Belfast, the connection was instant and the two of them got into a ship that sailed to New York. By that time, the war was about to start, but there was nothing that tied her to the UK. During the war, she and David traveled across the US, both very interested in herbology and magical creatures. Her time with David was the first time since her brotherâs death that she found some peace and happiness.Â
As a war was happening in Europe, Fawn fell in love and got married. The two of them settled down in a small cottage near Salem and planned their future. They were going to have three kids and as many dogs as they were able to shelter. Everything was perfect. Too perfect.Â
At first, David forgetting little things seemed harmless, sometimes even funny. But then, when it began to escalate, they realized it was serious and no treatment nor surgery would be able to cure the tumor in his brain.
Fawn was devastated and she could feel how the control was slowly beginning to slip out of her again. She could see the furniture and crystals trembling whenever she cried or started to get agitated. She refused to accept defeat, but it was David who made her see reason. They talked and cried, but they decided it was for the best. He wanted her to remember him healthy and fully aware of his wife and how much he loved her. David made her promise that she would move on and she did. He had the right plants to make a potion, it would be painless and peaceful. He drank it like tea, like he did every night before going to bed. Except the next morning, he didnât wake up.
That morning, Fawn cried. She didnât notice that the sky got darker the more she cried nor she associated the pouring rain to her tears, but the truth is that she cried so much that the rain flooded her little cottage.Â
Once the land dried, she threw his ashes in all of his favorite places, and still to this day she wears his wedding ring in a golden chain around her neck.
where are they now?:Â
Fawn returned to the UK, a few months after the war ended, after finding out that her parents died and she was the only person who could inherit their money and house. She only set foot in that house once and that was enough to have her emotions all over the place. So Fawn sold the house and with that money opened up her flower shop, and quickly ended up adding an extension to it that worked as an animal shelter and adoption center.
There is not a day in which she doesnât miss her brother and her husband, but sheâs trying her best because she made a promise. Her state of mind, however, is delicate. Fawn often feels as if sheâs hanging by a thread and each time she finds it even harder to control her magic.
Once or twice she thought of going back to school, see if that could help her with her magic, but thatâs not an option anymore. Now Fawn is dedicated to her shop and the animals.
