I really don't know how to go about this, but I want to start over on tumblr. I would probably remember most of you if you reminded me of your names or an important conversation we had. One of my friends was homeless for a few months and it was a very DESPERATE time. Your money DOES save lives and that could easily be you. I really don’t think people realize how fast you can be in that same situation. In her case, her apartment burned down, but so many other… things can happen to you to get you in that situation. And she saw so much cruelty and unkindness during that time. I can’t even imagine.

you’re all like “i love trans women!” but how many of you have actually loved a trans woman. you all want to play at supporting us but how many of you actually want to understand us. do you have any close trans woman friends? like actually close. like important enough to you you’d be willing to lose cis friends defending them. do you hang out with trans women outside of activist spaces? outside of tumblr? in group discussions when you hear a trans woman speak, do you tense up? if a trans woman says something you have to think about for more than 5 seconds do you do that work? or do you immediately reject and ignore it. if a trans woman disagrees with every other person you know does it ever cross your mind that everyone else might be wrong? when a trans woman asks for financial assistance on tumblr and you know you have that money to spare, do you help her? if you’re broke, and she just asks you to reblog her post, do you reblog it? or do you just scroll past and pretend you didn’t see it.

“support trans women” is a lie meant to make you feel good. you cannot support trans women. you can only support A trans woman, and then do that over and over again with every trans woman you meet.

but i feel like it’s a little ableist and dismissive to imply that you’re transmisogynistic unless you have offline friends who are trans women, because my (and any other people’s) mental health doesn’t allow that. like, if i were going to have offline friends, they would be trans people… but i don’t

and it’s also pretty… nasty to imply that online relationships aren’t ‘real’ and that you can’t love your online friends (inc. trans women)

it also doesn’t say shit about the value of online vs offline friends. the post doesn’t even really call you to do anything! it’s literally just saying dont act like you’re our fucking saviour if you dont even know any of us.

this is another aspect of transmisogyny. how quickly do you assume the worst of trans women? how willing are you to perceive bad intentions in her words and actions? how much do you actually listen when she speaks, and how much do you project. every single non trans woman does this. check it in yourself.

gender nonconforming trans women are fucking awesome and brave tbh, there’s a lot of pressure to perform femininity, especially for trans women (institutionally, trans healthcare all but fucking REQUIRES IT in order to transition) and you are no less female for going against that pressure. this goes double for TWOC, especially black and latina trans women. honestly just shout out to gender nonconforming women everywhere, cis and trans alike.
