I know, I know! Where has FBE been?!

Well I needed to decompress and get away from the negative of the internet. I was noticing that my post were becoming a bit negative and that is not what FBE is about...at all. So I went on another hiatus to find some positivity!

Well I did while on my BEST BIRTHDAY VACATION EVER!

Today I would like to share with you my trip to de Republica  Dominicana aka The Dominican Republic! Not only am i going to share my trip but also how you can enjoy your own Best Vacay Ever!

First, I just want to say that the DR is a beautiful country. The country is so full of culture (African culture at that!) My family and I indulged in the music, food, and people of the island. Although we stayed in a resort, we went on excursions to the mountain where the natives of Punta Cana resided. We learned about how the natives lived, how rum and cigars are made, and even real chocolate, I tasted fresh organic fruit right off of the trees and even ate an authentic Dominican meal.

The beaches there are absolutely gorgeous! They beaches were clean with soft white sands. The turquoise blue water was warm and soothing to the body and soul. You could just sit there and take it all in..

Before I forget....Baaaayyy-beeeee! If you are a Fat, Black, and Educated woman aka a BBW, this is the place to be! From the moment I stepped off the plane men were flocking at my feet. They love Bigger women and chocolate skin! 

Overall, I enjoyed my time there and being with my love ones. this was my first time traveling out of the United States, but certainly not the last. here are a few pictures for more you can visit my person Instagram page

Below are some travel tips:

This is a sad world that we live in. People getting knocked off left and right for senseless b*llsh*t. In Philly, a young man by the name of Tyhir was murdered after a basketball game in West Philly a few days ago. Tyhir is the prime example of why Black Lives Matter should start at home and not just because of the police brutality. Whether it was through the hands of a cop or another person in the neighborhood no one deserves to die this way. 

This post isn’t about the police brutality it’s about black men murdering black men in their own neighborhoods. I’m not a believer of it only being Black on Black crimes because that happens in any region where there is a large group of a certain race and they commit murder amongst one another. (White on White, Asian on Asia, and etc) But my blog is called Fat BLACK & Educated so I’m going to focus on the murders of Black individuals.

The key culprit in these senseless acts of murder in the “hood” is: JEALOUSY. 

As I mentioned in the podcast, black people are the biggest consumers in the country. We spend our money and time trying to keep up with the Jone’s or trying to out do them. We are materialistic. People will buy their kids sneakers for $160, then teach their kids to value material things. So the kids go to school and pick on other children less fortunate than they are because they aren’t wearing the latest Jordan’s (which aren’t the latest they came out 20+ years ago but people are just so stupid!) 

What i am saying is that instead of teaching them to value material things, teach them to value life. Let them know yeah its okay to get angry because you lost a basketball game, but it’s just a game. Let them know that not everyone is fortunate to have what they have and to also share and be generous. Teach them to be humble and responsible, instead of arrogant. Kids are being raised to think that they are invincible and they lack respect.

Stop buying your kid’s respect and start teaching them respect. This will help them to understand the world from all points of views even through the views of the law.

It just needs to stop. Police brutality and Black men killing each other. Black Lives Matter needs to start to matter to EVERYONE including Black People.

Just decided to give my point of view on the things that are going on. I even discuss the last two episodes of OITNB, so if you have not watched it yet this is a spoiler alert... 

Since the book ‘Fat, Black, and Educated is a self published title, I have decided to dedicate a monthly spot for Indie and Self Published Authors out there! So without further or due here is the first Indie Book Review of FatBlackandEducated.info for the month of June! 

So I have just completed: VIPER THE VAMPIRE ASSASIN BY DELIZHIA JENKINS

This book was sent to me by the author! I was excited to read it because the synopsis caught my attention right away.

Synopsis:

Turned into a vampire at the age of 19 and forced into a life of darkness and violence , she is the reason why the gangsters, the murderers, and drug dealers fear the night…Working as a hired assassin for drug dealer turned record label founder, Rio Mendez, Viper is on a high stakes mission to bring down one of the biggest music industry moguls in the world-Lucas Barnes, the man responsible for turning her into a vampire and murdering her entire family right before her eyes twenty years ago. Relying on her wit and will power and with the help of some unlikely friends, Viper must uncover some hard truths before facing the entity that stripped away everything that she once loved.

I’ve broken down my review into three very short categories: Likes, Dislikes, Overall! Then in each category, there are sub-categories.

Likes:

Storyline, theme, characters

The overall storyline was amazing. I’m not too into vampire and the undead type of genres, but this was something that kept my attention. It is also set in an Urban theme which gives the reader a more relatable scenario.

The characters were compelling and you could feel what the main character was feeling even if you did not agree with her decisions.

Dislikes:

the cover, the layout, no indentations, and some grammatical mistakes.

The Cover does not give the book any justice, also because I am a Graphic Designer, I would have liked to have seen a better cover.

The Layout (also a design thing!) The pages were hard to follow because of indentations and the numbers were shown on a weird spot on the page so it was hard to keep up with the page I was on while reading.

The Grammatical mistakes were few and far between, so it was easy to read. 

Overall:

I really enjoyed the book. The author really made you visualize every scene with great description. The character Viper was a badd chick!!! I loved her personality from beginning to end.

I loved her bond with the character Rio and their brotherly/sisterly bond

I hate the notion that all fat people are lazy. As mentioned before we, the FBE Ladies, promote self acceptance but with self acceptance you have to love and take care of yourself. To us, it is okay to be a curvy/plus size/bbw, but we also want everyone to live a healthy lifestyle. So with this being said, I am so excited about the next few weeks!!!

I am happy to introduce Ms. Verita R! She will be a feature on our blog for a few post. Verita will be helping us with planning work outs, eating healthy, and having fun while doing so. The best part is she is a FBE woman herself!

Here’s a little about Ms. Verita:

My name is Verita Richardson, I'm 23 years old and currently living in Illinois. I recently graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelors of Arts in Marketing. I am a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and I am a plus size fitness lifestyle coach. 

I started my blog and Instagram page, Curves & Muscles, to showcase my health/fitness journey while unconditionally loving myself and my body. I am a firm believer that women should move their curves however they see fit! Be it for fitness, stress, energy, or to connect to others. 

I don't believe you must look a certain way to be healthy or to exercise.

Over the weekend I came across this image:

A lot of you have probably seen it by now. But I guaruntee not many of you are hurt by it. In fact the majority are amused by it. The thing about this is, it’s not the image that’s hurtful, but the comments that followed up, and where the comments start from: a young black man. 

This is one of many captions that was retweeted hundreds of times on twitter and Facebook. It was made to show a spectrum of how women is, well, “better” the light the skin complexion. I am hurt by it so much because it was started by black men. 

Black men do you not realize you come from a Black Woman? Do you realize Black women will fight your battles for you when everyone else abandons you?

Black men (not all) are brainwashed to think that a woman of a light complexion is “better.” Women are women rather you are White, Black, Hispanic, or Asian. We all have our issues, our ‘angry woman’ moments. But you idolize White women over the women who care the most about you. 

You can ask any Black female, who would she rather date, she will most likely say a strong Black man. But you ask a Black male the same question they will give you everyone except a Black woman.

Now let’s get to why we treat yawl like shit. 

1. You will go after big asses, full lips, and exotic features on other women, but forget that BLACK women are the originators of those beautiful features.

2. You will criticize a Black woman for being Mad or Angry for your disappointments but will label a Latina, Asian, or etc as feisty. (We all have the same attributes. A pissed off woman is a pissed off woman. Trust me!)

3. You will talk down on us to OTHER women, and try to make us look bad. While we (most of us) still praise our Black Kings.

Of course men commented and had a lot to say with words like “Nizz”, “Nah”, and etc. What don’t like it when the tables are turned????

I know it can be more said about this topic but I would like to hear from you! 

Lady Face  First Annual Meet and Greet Event April 17th 2016

Today I became a devoted member of Lady Face! Lady Face is an up and coming social club for positive women with goals and want to connect with alike individuals. 

It was founded my Cynthia Cleaves, someone I have looked up to for many years, from childhood. Today was her first event, and I must say it was a success!

There were women form all over the city and all walks of life promoting their products, businesses, and other endeavors. We had amazing food and drinks, a bomb FEMALE D.J. who kept the part going, and prizes. 

Women mingled and networked throughout the afternoon, I even had some interest in a few of my books. 

What stood out to me most was the vision board. Each woman in the room was offered the opportunity to place something positive that they wanted to achieve or manifest this is year. I thought this was beautiful and motivating. 

All in all it was a fun night filled with love and bonding. I wish Cynthia the best of luck and blessings with LadyFace

Hey FBE Community sorry for such a long wait for a post!!! 

So as the title states, ‘What happens when he comes back?’: Who is this HE? Well we have that one person who just seems to always pop back up into our lives. It makes you wonder is it destined or is it an unfinished lesson or test of your will power. 

Currently, I just reconnected with a ‘interest’ I had back in late 2012. Me and this person really hit it off. We meshed well and had a lot in common. The best part about him in my opinion, he never pressured me about sex, so for 6 months of us talking we didn’t cross that threshold. I thought we were pretty good at the time. We constantly hung out, talked daily, we did kiss but nothing further. Then one day he just disappeared!

I didn’t see him again until mid 2014. We did exchange numbers but then I pushed him to the back of my mind with the rest of the men that I attempted to date but never succeeded. Now let’s fast forward about 2 weeks ago. I was on a dating app, you know testing the waters again, thinking about getting back on the dating scene, when I see a notification at the top of my screen saying someone viewed my profile. Long a behold it was HIM! 

At first, I was just going to bypass his profile and leave it but something told me to just message him instead. So I started with the infamous: Hey Stranger!

Honestly, I didn’t wait around to see if he would respond, I thought maybe he just was browsing and saw my page, took a peak, and kept it moving. But my sentiments were wrong! He responded immediately. We exchanged the typical ‘how are you’s’ and ‘what you been up to’s’ then out of just me seeing what would happened, I left my number.

Now at this point it was just me testing to see if he would use it. Normally, Ill talk to someone give them my number and won't hear from them for days or weeks. Not this one. He texted me the next day.

To make a long story short (since it’s already long) we are rekindling our friendship and starting from where we left off. I don’t know what his purpose in my life is but I am just taking this one day at a time and seeing where it may lead. No rush, no pressure.

Some of you are probably wondering, 'what's the F word?' And some of you are probably thinking 'well since the blog is Fat, Black, and Educated, the F word is probably Fat.' Nope. The F word is FRIEND or better yet, being FRIEND ZONED. I think we all dread the word and yet we are all guilty of sentencing someone who we are probably good friends with to the title. Recently, I was put into the friend zone. I had a small crush on a co worker of mine. The good news is I was thrown in respectfully. He basically feels he is not a good fit for me because of his "playa" like habits. I respect and actually appreciate the honesty from him admitting that. Funny thing is, this isn't the first time it's happened and to be honest, I've lost count of how many times I've been thrown in the FZ backpack of a male companion. Before, I would question myself: am I not attractive enough? Am I not good enough for this person? Etc...but the last few weeks has enlightened me on understanding how the friend zone works. Sometimes it's not about physical attraction. It can be the fact that the other person is just not ready for that level of commitment. It can also tie into compatibility. We meet people for the first time and become infatuated with looks, it's natural, but then you get to know people and see them for what they really are. Some people find you to be a better friend than companion or partner. Some may find you physically attractive but only want physical interaction, and if they know it will cause confusion they will most likely fall back. I hate being friend zone but at the same time it's better to be placed where you won't get heartbroken than to be put in a situation that you are miserable in. This all leads to forced relationships.
