🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 On 2nd of September every year, Vietnam celebrates its National Day.

On this day in 1945 in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam’s Independence from France and renamed the country the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This event impressed a part of Vietnamese history and marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Vietnamese nation’s colorful history.

There are many activities and cultural events organized to celebrate this day. The first thing you can check out is the national flags are displayed everywhere. People put it on the main streets, on the roof of their houses, on the top of most buildings and it colors the whole city in red and yellow. It’s the symbolic of our country’s freedom.

After returning from our vacation, we found out that there was an outbreak in Da Nang, a couple of days before we left there to go to Hue.

We didn’t have any symptoms and didn’t go into Da Nang a lot, but we isolated when we got home anyway. We let our local health center know about our travel routes and they asked us to sign papers saying that we would isolate ourselves. We had an appointment for a test the next day.

There are health centers for every ward, which means that we have two health centers within easy walking distance of our apartment. A seven minute walk there, 6 minutes for the (free) test, and a seven minute walk back. It was a very basic centre and they were taking photos and videos of us for the newspapers, but we are grateful to live somewhere that cares for people.

As far as Asia goes, Vietnam has made great progress on LGBTQ rights, but as a traditional city Hanoi often lags a little behind.
