Swansuke doodle loosely based off of my fic “Shelter Days” on AO3! Feat. Rufus the Saint Bernard 🐶

Also- just an excuse to draw them in casual wear! Daisuke would definitely re-join a baseball team after getting rescued from the Tulpar and would proudly wear his jacket around. Swansea, on the other hand would definitely own one of those Carhartt work jackets.

I re-watched Big Eden (2000s) while drawing this which definitely influenced the piece. Such a good film!

Inspo:

-Instead of having a “father” that gets captured at the beginning; I want to incorporate Curly as Daisuke’s mentor who ends up getting captured instead. Which evidently, leads to Daisuke exchanging himself for Curly’s freedom

-Make Jimmy a “Gaston” like figure in the story. Curly after escaping from the “beast” clutches runs back to town and tells the townsfolk about Daisuke being held captive. Jimmy being well… himself, takes initiative and rally’s the townsfolk of the “imitate threat” that the beast poses.

-I really want to incorporate Anya into the story in some way! Though- I not too sure on her role yet. Possibly a friend within the castle. Her and Daisuke would definitely form a strong friendship during his time in the castle.

-Swansea being turned into the beast for not appreciating his life and taking his family for granted. I’m only going to mention this in passing but I want to be very upfront that his relationship with his ex-wife is completely severed. We will have no infidelity in this household. Though he may re-connect with his kids later on in the story if I deem it necessary to the plot.

-I wanna have plenty of cute interactions between Swansea and Daisuke! The snow scene is an absolute MUST! I’m getting giddy just thinking about the dance sequence too!

-As for the gifting of the Library scene, I’m reluctant to keep it an actual “Library.” Just because- Daisuke doesn’t seem like the type to find something like that interesting. I’m gonna have to think about an alternative room that Swansea would realistically have within the castle.

Lastly, in this fic Daisuke is an ftm transman so all character development plot points will be adapted to fit the narrative. This includes outfit descriptions, mentions for top surgery scars, and if I decide to add an explicit nsfw chapter then mentions of pre-surgery anatomy.

Feeling inadequate due to his age, thinning hair, and deep wrinkles. It fuels his mentality of “Daisuke deserves someone young, attractive, and gentle to love him properly.”

Meanwhile- Daisuke can’t think of a more handsome man than Swansea. He blushes just thinking about his thick arms and fuzzy body. The way his heart skips a beat whenever they’re together. He could choose anyone he wants but would choose Swansea a hundred times over!
