Chase Brody x Reader (Space AU)
You’ve always admired the Moon. As a child you’ve dreamed of traveling there one day.
Although unlike the other children who wanted to go there just to see aliens or the Earth from afar…you had quite a different reason.
And that reason came to you one night while your parents were sound asleep.
Blinking tiredly, you sat up in bed, rubbing your eyes. But when you looked to the source of the voice, you gasped softly as you saw the man sitting on your windowsill.
He didn’t look like any normal person, though, for his skin seemed to be made from smooth dark and light gray rock, with several craters dotting his skin. His eyes glowed white, pulsating softly in the darkness of your room. And you noticed he had some sort of gray and red hat on, too, although that was the only normal thing on him.
“Woah..” You whispered softly, pushing the blanket off of you as the man stepped onto the carpet floor. “Who are you?”
“Some call me the “Man on the Moon”, but…I prefer “Man of the Moon. You can call me Chase, though.” He chuckled softly, looking around your room. “I visit children with a fascination for space. And I see you’re quite fascinated indeed.”
“Yeah!” Still whispering, you hopped out of bed and gestured to your crescent moon nightlight. “I’ve always wanted to go to the moon! Are you really from that place, Chase?”
“I am”, the man nodded. “It gets quite lonely on there. Astronauts come and go…but I’m too shy to ever talk to them. So instead I just visit the children of Earth and other distant planets. I’m a universal "imaginary friend” so-to-speak.“
You frowned slightly, sitting beside him with a drawing of a moon on your lap. "I’d come visit you if I could.”
He did a double-take. “What? You…You’d wanna do that? Why go to some place as plain as the Moon-?”
“You said you were lonely,” you explained. “And I don’t want you to feel that way. So when I grow up I’ll take a ship or spacepod to the Moon! All by myself!” A triumphant smile graced your lips. “My dad works for the space station and he says there’s a lot of confusing stuff and risks..but he’s working on making it easier for anyone to travel to the Moon and other planets!”
Chase smiled brightly at you, ruffling your hair. “Well, I hope to see you then! But..you can only guarantee that I’ll see you earlier than that if you keep my presence a secret..uh..what’s your name?”
“[Y/n],” he repeated with a hum. “I like that name. I’m sure I’ll remember it in the many years to come.”
You nodded happily, before you shifted over and showed him the drawing, explaining your brilliant “plan” to travel to the moon.
But at some point, you fell asleep, and when you woke up, you were tucked into your bed. Your drawing was hung up on the corkboard–exactly where you took it off the night before.
There was no trace of the man made of moon rocks, but you convinced yourself that you weren’t just dreaming.
He was real, and you couldn’t wait to see him soon.
The years flied by, and soon you’ve grown into an adult with ambitions for outer space. Of course, some say that childhood dreams tend to change as people grow older and start to explore different career paths in their life.
But your dream of going to the Moon had not changed one bit; not even as you were informed that life on Pluto, celestial entities, and an alien species in a nearby system were discovered and were currently making contact with humanity.
Chase was the only person on your mind as you left Earth in a spacepod. The white bulky suits astronauts had once worn became much slimmer now so that people can move around in them more. You were eternally grateful for that.
After about three or four days, your ship finally landed on the Moon’s surface, and you looked out the window in awe, smiling brightly at the craters and the flag that was placed there oh so many years go.
Once you got your suit on, you made sure the oxygen was running, before you opened the door and carefully climbed your way down the ladder. As soon as you set foot on the surface, you were in awe as you first gazed at the Earth, and then turned around to see the giant craters and stars in the infinite black sky.
A small gasp made you glance over at a few nearby rock formations protruding from the surface, where you noticed a familiar man hiding behind one of them.
You smiled. “Come on out. I won’t hurt you.”
When you got no response, you decided to venture closer, eventually finding the man curled up, whimpering as he hugged himself. “Why are you here, human?”
“To keep my promise, Chase.” With a chuckle, you flipped up your dark visor, allowing him to see your face. And when he did, his eyes widened in recognition.
“Hey.” You knelt in front of him and wrapped your arms around him tightly. He returned the embrace, glowing white tears filling his eyes as he gently squeezed you.
“I-I didn’t think you’d remember,” he sniffled. “You..still believed I existed on this lonely rock. Usually everyone forgets about me..”
“How could I forget? I mean, we’re making contact with a few alien species, and apparently there’s some celestial gods roaming around the universe, too. Of course I believe you’re real.” You pulled out of the hug, keeping your smile. “You’re not as alone as you think you are, Chase.”
Chase laughed tearfully, rubbing his eyes. “I-I guess not. Well..I’m glad y-you are here now. Do you wanna see my home?”
You nodded. “Sure. Does it have oxygen?”
“Yep. I’ve gathered some during my visits to Earth, which were a lot..so there should be more than enough for you.”
After you stood up, you reached down and offered him your hand. He accepted it and allowed you to pull him to his feet.
Then, still holding hands, the two of you headed to where his home was, happy to be reunited in the place you’ve always dreamed of visiting.
