Change Has Come

Umber spoke up with a gasp, looking around at the heart monitors and IVs coming off of her body. Then she remembered. Him. He was responsible. Seeing Allison asleep on a chair inside the room, the brunette let her head flop backwards on the bed.
Gazing around the room, the girl couldn’t control the tears that filled her eyes before a sob broke past her lips, waking her sister up. “Are you okay?” Allison questioned, rushing to her sisters eyes. “No.. I don’t know if I’ll ever be okay again.” She felt different. Umber wasn’t sure what had changed, but the very air in the room dusting over her skin felt different and she felt as if she was broken. Hearing the door open, the newly-turned girls eyes shifted to the door, smiling at the sight of her friend.
“Hey, Stiles,” she spoke softly, her voice cracking as she did. Allison excused herself, her heart breaking at the very idea of her sister in any sort of pain enough to break her and that’s what it was doing to the elder Argent sister. “Stiles Stilinski, what are you doing in my room? Shouldn’t you be checking on Lydia or… something? I mean, I remember her bleeding out on the field and I’m sure that she’s way worse off than me.” Looking down at the cloth over where the wound on her arm, she frowned, “I– I don’t even hurt.”
And to be honest, that’s what scared her. No matter how long she was out, the girl should’ve felt at least a little bit of pain, but upon pulling back the bandage, she gasped. No wound. No.. anything. Looking up to meet her friends eyes, she hoped that he was going to look back at her. It terrified her that there was no wound where the bite had taken place from that monster of a man. The word monster repeated in her mind over and over, “Am I– Am I a monster, Stiles?”
“Can you go check on Allison and Umber…?”
Stiles didn’t want to leave the ICU waiting room just yet, wanting to be as close to Lydia as possible. Her surgery was a success, but the pack still wanted to be near by. He couldn’t say no to Scott, however, not when the werewolf gave him those puppy eyes that let him get away with everything.
He was surprised that he didn’t want to check on Allison himself, but he guess that after letting her sister get attacked, Allison wouldn’t be in the mood to talk to Scott.
“Hey… knock knock…” Stiles peaked his head through the door and saw that Umber was up and talking to Allison. The younger girl looked a little worse for wear, but fine nonetheless. “Glad you’re feeling ok…”
He offered Allison a small smile before she left, probably to find Scott. He hoped they worked things out.
“Lydia’s going to be fine. She’s out of surgery now. It’ll be a long recovery, but she’ll pull through…” He tried to be as reassuring to Umber as possible, but it was obvious that she was still freaking out from the attack.
“Wait, what do you mean it doesn’t hurt?” He stepped closer to the side of her hospital bed, brows narrowed in concern as Umber pulled the bandage around her arm down.
There was no bite.
“Shit…” Stiles ran a hand through his hair as he looked to the younger hunter. He took a seat at the edge of the bed, shaking his head at her question.
“Hey, hey. You are not a Monster. Scott won’t let that happen, your sister won’t let that happen….” He needed to tell Scott though. Her or Derek would have to help Umber through her first moon.
“I’ll get Scott, he’ll help, I swear…”
The brunette shook her head, “No.. please don’t leave me.” Looking at Stiles closely, Umber frowned. She didn’t know what she was, but there was no possibility that a human could ever heal so fast and that’s what scared her and what was worse was that this didn’t seem as shocking to Stiles as it was to her. “Stiles… what am I?” She questioned softly, tears present in her eyes. In her time in Beacon Hills, Umber had seen the unthinkable, but seeing her arm healed as it was…
This is the first time that the girl was truly scared since moving to town. After a few moments, the brunette questioned once more, “What am I?”
Okay, she was beyond terrified. Looking at the boy in front of her. One of her first friends after moving to Beacon Hills, tears once more slipped down her features. “Stiles, please.. I am so scared. I’ve never been this scared,” Umber stated, “Not in my entire life.” The younger Argent sister could’ve never been more happy that Allison wasn’t in the room to see the girl being so weak as tears cascaded down her cheeks like rain pattering down a window during a storm. It was beautiful, yet all together heartbreaking. “I just– I want to understand.”
Stiles paused at the door when Umber asked him to stay. He sighed, turning back around to face her. The boy bit his lip, looking around the room for a moment to give himself some time to think of an excuse to leave and get Scott, or even Allison. But then the girl started to cry.
“No, no, no tears…” He went back to sit on the edge of the bed. Stiles reached out and gently covered Umber’s hand with his. One thing that he couldn’t ignore was tears. He reached over to her bedside table and offered the box of tissues there.
“What am I?” Stiles sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“To be honest Umber, I don’t think I’m the right person to talk to you about this. It really should be Scott. He’ll be able to explain everything…” But Scott wasn’t here. It was just the two of them and it was understandable that Umber wanted answers. So Stiles let out a exasperated breath and nodded.
“Ok. Beacon Hills is not normal. For some reason the town is an epicenter for the Supernatural; Werewolves, hunters, druids, other things that go bump in the night. Tonight… you were attacked and bitten by a werewolf…”
This made Umber's eyebrows fly up to her hairline.
In this moment, she wasn't sure if she believed Stiles or not.
But she did mysteriously heal in a way that couldn't be explained. Wiping away tears from her eyes with tissues from the box Stiles had handed her, she thought.
Deep in thought. It took her a moment to look at Stiles once more. "Stiles, if I got bit by a werewolf and I healed, does that mean that I am one?" She could feel her heartbeat practically in her ears before she shook her head. "I don't-- Is that why everyone in this whole freaking town is acting weird?! And my Aunt Kate.. she was... where is she?" Umber carefully gripped the boys hand.
A part of her had a bad feeling. Kate hadn't been by to visit her and that wasn't like the Aunt she knew. The Aunt who was practically her sister. "Stiles, please. You just told me werewolves exist... I can handle whatever the hell happened to my Aunt."
