The semester project in my last visual development class was to create concept art for our own vision of a prequel/sequel/spin-off for a well known IP.

I chose to design a prequel for Monster High, in the style of the g1 3D animated specials 🎀💀✨

My final portfolio for the project includes a character line up, interior environment, exterior environment, and story moment.

The main cast in the story includes (in order from left to right in the top left image): an undead Ichabod Crane, a young Hexiciah Steam, a young Headmistress Bloodgood, a mummified werecat, an esqueleto/calaca, and a gargoyle.

MOOD BOARD & ASSET CREATION CLIENT: Mattel Designed at Clever Creative SERVICES Photography and Image Manipulation Illustration and Lettering Page Layout and Design

DETAILS The scope of this project was broad, and we enjoyed the process of immersing ourselves fully in the brand. The major phases included: (1) generating new brand assets, (2) designing a content guide for third-party publishers, and (3) creating an asset guide as an index for all 2014 brand assets. Ever After High (EAH) revolves around the students, faculty, and staff at the titular high school, all of whom are related to mythological or classic fairytale characters and have appropriately punny names and abilities (e.g., Ashlynn Ella, daughter of Cinderella, who’s completely obsessed with shoes).

MOOD BOARD & ASSET CREATION EAH has a collage-like look and feel with many layers of textures, patterns, and decorative elements. We first assembled large mood boards with distinct themes to guide the process. Then we had a lot of fun digging through craft stores and flea markets collecting vintage curios, fabric embellishments, and anything else we could use to make official brand assets.

CONTENT & ASSET GUIDES The guides prioritized legibility while maintaining the colorful, layered look of the brand. The printed version was hand-bound by Bella Betiato.
