Why is it that the people who insist that Superman has no nuance or complication to him are the ones who completely strip all nuance out of anything he does or says in media?
He’s not allowed to be angry at people because he loves everyone like you can’t be angry at people you love when they do the wrong thing.
He’s not allowed to feel disheartened or depressed because he believes in everyone like you can’t be hurt by things even if you understand the reasons behind them.
He not allowed to be intolerant of people’s intolerance of others because then he’s being intolerant and lording over other people except that’s literally not how that works. Ever.
He can’t make mistakes because he’s Superman but Superman’s boring because he’s perfect, as if even the best people don’t make mistakes or even just fail in this complicated, difficult world of ours.
The fact is that Superman’s complicated and if that’s not a complication you dig, that’s you, not him. That’s why he’s hard to write: not because of his powers but because he comes with no excuses. It’s not that Superman CAN’T do something; he has to choose to do it or not. It’s every moral problem you’ve ever faced all in one character with nowhere to hide. Just saying.

This has been on my mind for long but I’m gonna do this - please reblog this if you’re comfortable with pre-establishing relationships. I do not mean “met at the grocery store two weeks ago” or “have a common friend”, but rather stuff like “have been best friends since kindergrden”, “go for a beer every friday”, “friends with benefits”, “dated in highschool”, “hate each other’s guts because -insert reason-” etc. Something meaningful (but not necessarily shippy) and I mean with muns/characters you have not interacted with, because I cannot believe I am the only one who prefers jumping right into the heart of the human interaction.
