The song California Girls is practically the soundtrack to Coral’s life. Truly representing the West Coast, Miss Sinatra was born an raised in Malibu, Los Angeles. With two older sisters, it was inevitable that Coral would mature quicker than normal. Her entire family are a wild bunch. Coral lives with her Mom, one of her sister, her sisters boyfriend and an Aunt. Coral’s father isn’t really around. He was a member of a band who Coral’s Mom had a brief fling with. It was two weeks before he was due to head back out of town and Miss Sinatra (Coral took her mother’s last name) discovered that she was pregnant and dropped her boyfriend like a hot potato, in fear of her daughter not getting a good life. So, the group moved into a tiny two bed apartment. Then, Coral’s Aunt found out about their living arrangement and insisted they all get a bigger place together and bam. That’s where they are now. Coral had the tiniest room in the house, but she never minded because it was a room she got all to herself. She’s extremely close to her sisters though. Coral’s oldest sister, Nina, was always very put together. More often than not, she was like a second Mother even though she doesn’t live with them anymore. Then there was Quincy, a constantly philosophically thinking person who was obsessed with art. Each room had it’s own uniquely painted feature wall, thanks to Quincy. The entire Sinatra family was primarily females. Coral lived with one of the six Aunts she actually had. If she wasn’t visiting family, which was a lot of the time, Coral was in the sea. Pretty much a water baby from the start, Coral, Nina and Quincy were always taking trips to the beach. Nina would be socialising, Quincy would be sunbathing and Coral would be swimming.
Her upbringing fostered a don’t-give-a-fuck personality. As Coral got older, she’d often skip the odd class to head to the beach with her current boyfriend, and she’d probably dump him that day. With no real relationship between her mother and father, Coral developed a hatred of commitment. It had obviously meant nothing to either of her parents and very few of her close family were ever in long term relationships either. The idea of a steady boyfriend made her uncomfortable, so as soon as any boy started to get too emotional and clingy, Coral would flip a switch and become the biggest bitch there was. She’ll be absolutely awful to him, to push him away. She’d talk shit about him behind his back. She’d plot and ruin things around him. Coral is generally a nice person but don’t ignore her darker side because once she let’s rip, she finds it hard to stop. This attitude got her in her fair share of scraps and cat fights, but Coral’s tough and can fight well for a girl with her petite build.
When it came to education, Coral didn’t really care all that much. She dreamed of a life where she could get paid to just show up at a store and be paid for it, walking out with clothes for free. She’d rather spend her nights entertaining her friends with a bit of guitar on the beach than be revising. It’s for this reason she always tried to stick to fly-by lessons where she could just get through them easily. This usually meant she avoided all science and maths classes and only really attending her English, Drama and Music. Coral stuck to the mickey mouse classes. She knew that she wanted to do her music and her swimming, and that was it. Nothing else really mattered. When Coral’s mother couldn’t deal with her, she’d send Coral to stay with her grandparents-- Who happened to be extremely well off. Whenever Ms Sinatra got a call saying that Coral was missing from school, she knew that her daughter was probably at her grandparents with a glass of champagne, pool-side and having a chat with Nana Sinatra. Compared to Coral’s mother, her grandparents approved of Coral’s choices. They knew that she was good at her music and her swimming, and wanted to send her somewhere that her talents would be appreciated and made the most of. This was when they suggested Wishing Well Academy. Naturally, Coral’s mother refused to let her daughter go to a school to study music and end up exactly like her father ( Although Coral already had inherited multiple personality traits from him as well as his smile ). After a few heated family meals, it was agreed that Coral would go to infamous Wishing Well Academy where her major would be something serious, but her minor and out of class activities could be as filled with musical stuff and swimming stuff as she wanted. Coral’s Grandparents paid for her tuition and then she was off to New York for college.
A wild heart, Coral looked forward to the independence of college. With songwriting as her major too, she finally looked forward to a class! As long as she keeps her grades in English Literature up, she gets to stay at the school with an amazing swimming and music scene. They were both very different though and Coral played a different role in each. As soon as she went to the first Swim Team meet, Coral noticed that she was a lot more... alternative than the other girls. A lot of them were relatively preppy, fashionable girls who all cared a lot more about their appearance than she did. Personality wise though, there were a few more similarities. Coral bonded quite well with Head Mermaid, Elizabeth who knows just as much about the partying life as Coral. The more they talked, the more Coral realised that this girl was the one to stick around. They’re each others go-to +1. Coral knows about Liz’s dark past of partying with Victoria Heart and promises to keep Liz clean from anything that isn’t alcohol. When Coral wants to get really drunk though to the point that she has to be carried home, Dione is her go to. As Coral got to know each of the girls, she realised that she got a long with all of them. She’s generally known as the punk rock one though, the one to scare anyway any creepy guys by threatening them with a punch to the face if they don’t leave. If anyone finds buys a dark lipstick and they just don’t feel it, it’s generally thrown in Coral’s direction. When they all do go partying, you can usually spot Coral thanks to her always brightly coloured hair and love of spikes and studs. Their entire group gets plenty of guy attention when they’re out. Although less likely to actually be approached than the other guys because of her intimidating looks, Coral’s just as flirty as the rest. When not binning off last nights one nights stand, Coral can be caught fawning over sexy Jock Toby Sultner or voice of an angel Samuel Caspers. None of it’s serious though, of course. Once she’s slept with them, she’ll probably move on. When it comes to actual emotions, Coral pays a visit to her other good friend Ariana Reef. A much more peaceful and understaning person than Elizabeth, Ari helps Coral talk through things that she’s deal with. They’re extremely supportive of each other. Coral would never let anything bad happen to her cutie.
The mermaids don’t seem to be that keen on their girls getting too involved in other hobbies, which was why Coral was forever grateful when she met Lily Sirena. Another mermaid with a passion for singing, the girls will often sneak out at the end of training to go to the studies together. Despite different styles, they help each other as much as they can. Coral will then head from there to meet up with girls she’s made friends with thanks to the English department. She keeps up the appearance that she’s reckless and doesn’t care about her future, but she does really. This is where Hermione and Emma come in. They help Coral study and do everything that she needs to get done. They help Coral calm down a little, forcing her to take a break from the crazy life style that she puts herself through. Plus, she helps their social lives, letting them know of all the good parties they need to get to. Another responsibility Coral is yet to deal with is her family. Word got to her that her oldest sister, Nina, was sending her son to the school-- Coral didn’t even know that her sister had a kid, that she was an Aunt! It was when this news got to her that Coral realised she actually wanted to be friends with her sisters and her sisters kids. Plus, it’ll be totally easy for her to relate to a young lad who’s priorities are in the same place as hers -- Partying, drinking and having a good time.Â
