introducing ✿ HU SENLIN! ✿ sun & moon winery’s helpful hand who swears he does not get drunk from taste-testing although other sources will state otherwise + a constant cause of noise complaints mainly centered around his penchant for fake-howling at night just to make all the town’s dogs start up + serial starer at his self-cam during online classes + nonsensical simile enthusiast
hello stardew! this is red (21+, they/them) and i’m super excited to be here! i’m bringing senlin to pelican town, who is a bit of a handful and also rina’s stepbrother at the winery (yes their family is mr. worldwide). i’ll put a really short little overview of his sitch under this and a few plots i’d really like, so feel free to drop a like on this post if you’re interested in anything, or just plotting in general!
senlin’s basically spent almost his whole life here! he’s sort of never had a normal childhood for several reasons, one being that his mother and father got divorced really early, which uprooted them into a different country. after the divorce, his father packs everything up, risks it all on purchasing + starting up a winery business, and moves them to pelican town all the way from taiwan.
after a long struggle between insisting he did NOT stay up all night playing games and his father finally realizing that this isn’t normal, he’s diagnosed with narcolepsy at age 15, which pretty much means he has trouble staying awake during the day and will sometimes pass out against his will
anyway so the diagnosis made things a lot easier for him because it finally gave him a proper support system
outside of that, he’s very interested in taking over the winery business when he gets older, so he’s enrolled in a few business classes that he takes primarily online
he’s a hobbyist musician, who plays the ukulele and kalimba. relaxing means taking your little instruments to the grape field and playing music for the farm dogs while feeding them treats for staying...
but when he’s not doing that, he’s being a menace to society: including but not limited to putting googly eyes on all the town signs, sling-shotting rocks into defected bottles of wine by the edge of the forest, being really bad at skipping stones, pushing his own limits a concerning amount which lands him at the clinic too much...
with that out of the way, here are some plots i’d really love to write!
zoom call crushie: someone he develops a puppy love crush on because they’re in the same online class (could be a gen ed?) and tries to flirt via zoom chat - but when he sees them irl around town he doesn’t know how to act
pre-est friendships: others who’ve been in this town for a long time; they’re already accustomed to each other, and he often shows up randomly to say hi and make you try a wine grape from a recent harvest
the worst tour guide ever: someone who’s new to town who he shows around with wayyy too much enthusiasm, maybe ends up taking an impromptu nap midway and it gets kinda awkward
lost pets: your dog’s been missing for a bit too long now and you find senlin with it and think he’s a dog kidnapper or something
drinking buddies at the saloon: maybe senlin’s had some insane idea for how a certain cocktail mix might taste really good and he’s pestering your muse to try it
the clinic: a nurse or employee there who has to see him way too often unfortunately because he does not understand the concept of being careful / or maybe a fellow patient who also has to visit a lot, and they bond in the waiting room
