in my farming sim game, getting married to one of the townspeople will have a significant impact on your gameplay. if you marry the rival farmer, their smaller farm will be merged with yours. if you marry the town alchemist/doctor you get a buff to all your alchemy and you wake up from getting knocked out in your own home instead of their clinic. if you marry the priestess she uh, idk she does weather related divine magic for you so you can choose the weather, idk i haven't thought too hard about that one yet

I think we're seriously missing a lot of very important discussion on how disabled people are treated by the criminal law system. A whole lot of people dodge this kind of discussion either because they don't want to acknowledge that disabled people are capable of breaking the law (or even just being accused of breaking the law) like everyone else, or because they believe that everyone who has those kinds of encounters with the legal system deserves pain and suffering. But we DO need to talk about the ableism and inaccessibility baked into the system and how disabled people are at extreme risk of being treated unfairly or even physically harmed when dealing with it.
despite being "trained to deal with disabled citizens" the legal system has a much higher rate of disabled people being targeted by the system. incarceration is incredibly common, and jails specializing in mental health are often in much poorer and unsanitary conditions than those that arent.
also mentioning that even with training, disabled people are also more likely to get shot by police (mainly referencing the police having a "shoot first ask later" attitude in miami towards autistic people) and assaulted during arrest
ALSO in the USA, if the court deems you "insane" enough, they can literally take away your right to vote. and if youre labeled as incompetent, your rights are given to someone else, typically parents or spouses or whatever else.
everything mentioned here is in the USA, mainly because i live here and thats how i know these things, but i can imagine its the same if not worse depending on the country/municipality/county/whatever else

It can be easy to confuse the two, but you don't actually "wish you were more disabled", you wish your disability was taken seriously and was properly accommodated and that you had access to the support and resources you need - and that desire is so valid. You deserve more. But the sad truth is that no level of disability actually guarantees a sufficient level of support. So you have to work to separate your very understandable desire for more support from the incorrect assumption that other disabled people are consistently receiving what you aren't. All of us are getting fucked over in this society, and no group of disabled people actually has it easy.

The concept that married people live longer is interesting. I'm sure there is some merit to the idea that if you're married there is someone there to nag you about going to the doctor, but I think much larger factors are having the finances of dual incomes and access to an immediate support person.
Surgeries require having a designated person to look after you. Many injuries require driving to somewhere like an emergency room which can be hard to do if you are the one injured. If you're home with the flu, it's hard to tell when it's bad enough to go to the hospital without another person checking on you. And if you pass out it requires another person to find you like that to get medical aid.
You can prop it up as the benefits of marriage, but I think there's a much deeper discussion to be had about how we've built society around marriage as an inevitable conclusion and neglected to build support systems that function outside of romantic pairings.
I have some shit to say about my experience with campus organizing that was entirely dominated by white men
the whole reason the group ended up with those demographics in the first place is because everyone else left in protest after certain members refused to make a public statement about a racist incident on campus. because that would be "singling out" the perpetrator. in hindsight that was a really bad sign and I should've left then
nothing ever got done because I was the only one putting in any work and I can't run a club by myself. we lost our official club status because the club president didn't do the paperwork. even when we were set on doing something, we would spend weeks to months just talking about it forever and it would inevitably fall apart
I brought up mutual aid a few times because lots of people could use it and this one guy would go on and on about how mutual aid is pointless unless it's materially advancing socialism in some way. I was dependent on the food bank at the time and he knew this.
same guy who invited a racist anti communist to the club because he thought he could fix him and that was at the top of his priority list for some reason. I was brushed off when I tried to mention my concerns. that person attended one meeting and left after he was asked not to insult people
these people would talk forever and I could never get a word in. they would just not notice that I'd been trying to speak for the last 15 minutes
and they wonder why they had issues attracting new members
like they'll say they're trying to appeal to the working class but it's extremely telling who they specifically choose to appeal to versus who they don't even notice isn't in the room
