I don’t care about the editor’s views on Rukia, for me, she’s still the main heroine and badass girl in the whole Bleach series.

I don’t care that Kubo turned Ichigo into a sorry excuse of a “normal human, living a happy normal life”, for me, he’s still the bravest and kindest hero.

Rukia knows a thing or two about art. So let’s so she went around offering her professional opinion about everyone’s drawings. Because, um, Bleach is having an art show or something. This might be the result!

1. Orihime

“Inoue’s art is gorgeous - creative, compelling, tells a story. My favorite is ‘Future Inoue Robot Of Laser Doom.’ Gives me chills every time. Chills!”

Orihime: Y-you’re too kind!

2. Ishida

“I get that Ishida has an - aesthetic, but ‘White Crayon on White Background’ just isn’t doing it for me.“ 

Ishida: I knew I should have added a blue cross!

3. Yoruichi

“It looks messy, but that’s only because she painted it with ADORABLE LITTLE KITTY PAWS!”

Yoruichi: Good thing my cat self doesn’t mind taking baths.

4. Byakuya

“Nii-sama’s art is what we all aspire to.”

Byakuya: It is true.

Byakuya: My art appeals to the Admiral Seaweed in each of us.

5. Ulquiorra

“Um, this appears to be an empty canvas entitled ‘Emptiness.’”

Ulquiorra: I am centuries ahead of my time.

6. Grimmjow

“Um, did he just punch a hole in his canvas and call it art?”

Grimmjow: I am centuries ahead of my time.

Grimmjow: And also I got fucking frustrated.

7. Riruka

“THIS IS SO ADORABLE THAT I CAN’T EVEN HANDLE IT”

Riruka: S-stop hugging my painting!

8. As Nodt

“Meh.”

As Nodt: Um, hello. That shit is a clown doll with a hat made of spiders.

As Nodt: I demand screams. 

9. Gin

[Rukia screaming]

As Nodt: Teach me.

Gin: Well, considering that she’s screaming at my self portrait, I’m gonna be a little busy feeling bad about myself.

10. Rose

“I-it’s so beautiful….and sad….I want to cry and clap at the same time…”

Rose: Well, Izuru is my muse, you know.

11. Sasakibe

“Um if I wanted to see the head captain naked I…..wouldn’t.”

Sasakibe: You talk as though there aren’t strategic teapots.

12. Ichigo

“Wow! Ichigo! When did you get so good at drawing peaches?”

I hate that certain people believe romance has to be in your face and be all about open confessions and “I love you” to be considered romance.

Orihime was a character built for a lovey dovey shojo romance. Ichigo was not, and neither was Rukia. Becasue they were built perfectly for a SHONEN romance. Same for Isshin and Masaki. Same for Byakuya and Hisana. Ichigo and Rukia were not characters who openly expressed emotions. Ichigo was always a punk and Rukia viewed emotions as troublesome. But as they spent more time with each other, that clearly changed.

Isshin commented in chapter 398 how Ichigo got better at expressing himself.

And that was all thanks to Rukia and I’m pretty sure Isshin damn well knows where he got it from.

And not long after, look at how far they have both come with open expression. No words or gushy confessions.

Smiling despite the pain of facing a permanent goodbye (at least as the readers we know its not but they think it is)

And take those smiles away and you get this

Their eyes alone say it all.

Somehow they thought that this poignant scene was an accurate representation of Bleach. They could have depicted ANYTHING else to advertise Bleach - a scene of Ichigo protecting his friends, or of the Shinigami vs. the Arracar or Aizen, or the canon ship’s “five lifetimes, one love” confession scene to the unconscious Ichigo. 

But nooo, they chose the panels of Ichigo and Rukia looking at each other, yearning and broken-hearted, because 1) it was the most emotional scene between any two Bleach characters at that point (and even now, actually), 2) the bond and destiny of Ichigo and Rukia is what Bleach is about, 3) it was fucking romantic and they knew it.
