Here’s a few tips next time you tell someone with eczema what you think.

“just put lotion it” -All the lotion in the world could not help

“why do you make that face” -I’m in pain right now pls stop talking

“I’ve heard cold baths help with that” -How about YOU try taking a cold ass bath

“What does it feel like” -you know that one itch you have on your back that you just can’t reach? Imagine that feeling 24/7 all over your body.

“Why don’t you just itch it” -eczema is known as the “itch that rashes” ITCHING MAKES NOTHING BETTER

“why can’t you use scented lotion” - k have you ever gotten splashed by boiling water? It’s like that except all over

“It’s cold in here” -and I am burning

People almost never talk about how eczema affects you mentally and emotionally and that’s so sad to me because it has impacted my way of thinking so much and I didn’t even realize it until last year.

It can make you think so negatively about your self image.

I was told from the age of 8 that if I didn’t hide my eczema while in school that I’d get in trouble at school( get kicked out) and get bullied for it. And I believed that for years until I was 14. I never once wore anything that showed my skin. Long sleeves and pants even in summer weather, I even wore gloves during the day sometimes just to hide it.

Hiding my skin all the time only got me bullied more. MOST PEOPLE WONT BULLY YOU FOR IT, THEY WILL BE CURIOUS THOUGH.

All the medications, treatments, appointments, and time that goes into it is so tiring even more so when you feel like it isn’t helping. It can make you feel so hopeless and depressed.

Summer can be so depressing. From stretch marks to scars and just plain breakouts. All the questions and negative attention is embarrassing and upsetting.

WHEN PEOPLE DON’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH THEY CLEARLY NOTICE. This happens so rare that it feels so uncomfortable. I had a girl give me some massage and she was touching spots where my eczema was broke out and she didn’t say a word nor did she even hesitate or bat an eye at it and my mom and I were so puzzled by it. We were like WHAT THE HECK?!?

Relationships not just dating but friendships too. Personally it always made me back away from contact. I did not want anyone to touch me because of my eczema.

I have had friends pull away from me after touching my hands because they are toughened from years of eczema. I have had friends feel my eczema like some hands-on piece. I have had family refuse to let me get stuff because they didnt want my eczema to touch it. I HAVE HAD STRANGERS FEEL MY ECZEMA.

Questions can be so… dehumanizing or rather just rude. I know people are curious but there are certain things you don’t say or ask. I’m not even gonna say the stuff I’ve been asked.
