Selena thinks she owns Justin. No matter what you tell her she’s in the mindset of “he’s mine I had him first. He’s more in love with me” blah blah blah
She plays these games with him where she’ll call him up, they’ll have a great time hanging out then she’ll drop him. It’s a way to trap him emotionally. And tbh it works I’ve seen it done on other people it’s kinda called something like the “availability trap” where you make them feel special and then humble them by dropping them.
She has successfully played this game on him since 2013-2018. So in 2018 when she wanted to replay that game he got really sick and tired of it and went off with Hailey. Selena had the mindset that she would do this with him a few more times and then marry him because not only does she love him but she also thinks she owns him as if he’s a gift given to her and no one else can take him away.
That’s why the jailey marriage is so shocking to her and to you guys because no one ever thought he would fully be like “nope I don’t want to do this again”
So to answer your question she declined the first marriage proposal in 2012 because he was naive and she didn’t want to marry him at 20. But she always had a feeling she’d tie him down in the much later future. Also Selena likes to kill two birds with one stone so she loves him but also loves using him for her advantage too. She’s just a selfish person in general
