Cut to junior year of college. I took Classical Greek as part of my degree, and I was feeling like I had a leg up over my classmates, whose Greek handwriting looked like kindergarten chicken scratch, while mine was smooth and quick. I turned in my first assignment feeling pretty damn proud of myself.

About three assignments later, my professor pulled me aside with the goofiest look on his face…

one day damen and toddler go to an amusement park, and the toddler sees a tall, blonde, shoulder length hair, fair skinned, blue eyed man that looks so much like his mom, so toddler goes up to him and says mama and wants to be picked up bcs it’s his mom and u can’t convince him otherwise!

spoiler alert: that man was laurent!!!!!!!!!!

and ofc laurent is so worried bcs this child is lost who is this child’s negligent parent! but damen’s just behind running after his baby super worried too. he just put his child down to tie his shoelaces and said “stay here okay??” but as he looked down to tie his shoes his toddler shouts “mama” and runs fast bcs he’s damen’s child lmao. damen, untied shoelaces and all, quickly runs after his child and sees laurent pick him up, but before he thinks it’s laurent taking his baby he sees how laurent is also frantically looking around for the baby’s parent.

so damen goes up to them, ((double taking bcs omg jokaste?? wait no it’s not her this is a man!! but the resemblance is so uncanny!!)) he apologizes to laurent who’s holding his child who’s very happy and trying to touch laurent’s face still saying mama!!!

and you know where it leads damen invites laurent to join them in case he’s alone (he’s not… he’s with auguste and fam but he didn’t want to ride the crazy rides which damen and his baby can’t ride anyway bcs his toddler is not allowed duh!!) so laurent agrees, sure bcs damen is a cute, buff, single father but also BECAUSE THE BABY DOESN’T WANT TO LET HIM GO AND HE CANNOT MAKE THIS BABY SAD SO HE’LL JUST GO WITH THEM BCS THIS BABY IS SO CUTE AND DESERVES ALL THE LOVE AND HAPPINESS

so now they roam around the park like a real family and well after the day and laurent has to go back to auguste, damen extends the invitation to a ~~date~~

He's such a dickkkk alsjdjisjd I'm completely obsessed with him. He says and does so many drop dead funny things, especially in book one, it was nearly impossible to narrow this down to only five moments.

The mental image of Damen effortlessly yanking Laurent around like a kitten by the scruff of its neck has provided me endless delight. And the offhand competence too.....chef kiss. Sexy.

3. More sound on the stairs, the clatter of several urgent footsteps. Jord turned. Guymar and another of the soldiers were coming to the section he had ordered cleared. Damen passed a hand over his face. Everyone in the fort was coming to the section he had ordered cleared.

5. The guard turned towards the Akielon voice, and Lamen smiled at him, an easy smile full of his good nature, his tousled curls, and the relaxed temperament of his southern Akielon birth. He had a dimple in his left cheek. Charls watched the guard unwinch a fraction.

I owe Pacat a lifetime of fruit baskets for choosing to include this, the most important passage in all the books, in The Adventures of Charls. An outsider POV on Damen was so necessary and validating. Like shit, maybe I'm in love with him too.

I love both long and short-haired Laurent so consider this: Laurent + tuck braid (for going riding or skewering someone with a sword)
