“theres gotta be worse, right?” he said with a laugh, but it was true, its not like his smoking was hurting anyone. besides himself that is. “ah yeas, i forgot just how competitive you truly are. although, i can muster up all the stubbornness i have just to see the look on your face when you lose.” he smirked at the girl who was now sitting next to him. “if im so expendable to you, you wouldn’t have sat down. besides, hypothetically, i would just want another cigarette. i’m out and i don’t feel like heading to the store to buy more.”

“  i  can  think  of  half  a  dozen  examples  just  within  my  family  .  ”  she  commented  dryly  .  “  father  says  some  people  are  meant  to  win  in  life  .  ”  a  sarcastic  laugh  came  out  of  red  lips  .  “  i’ve  always  thought  i  was  one  of  those  ,  but  who  knows  .  ”  rolling  her  eyes  ,  esme  took  out  a  pack  of  cigarettes  from  her  small  purse  ,  handing  them  over  to  carson  .  “  well,  i  guess  we  all  have  our  flaws  .  like  smoking  and  actually  enjoying  other  people’s  company  .  now  give  me  a  light  before  i  go  completely  insane  .  ”

“oh, please, this is my first one today.” he said defensively,  although, he has been known to chain smoke before and doubts that just because he spent the summer pretty much cigarette free, that now his lungs are in peak condition. “y’know, i would like to see you try and sweet talk me into it.” he teased, he pulled out his red lighter out and asked,  “what will i gain if i let you use this?”

"  oh  trust  me  ,  i’m  not  one  to  judge  another’s  bad  habits  ,  old  sport  .  ”  still  playing  with  her  cigarette,  esme  sat  next  to  carson,  staring  idly  into  the  horizon  .  “  is  that  a  challenge  ?  i’m  not  one  to  lose  .  ”  some  would  even  question  if  the  world  was  part  of  her  vocabulary  .  “  you  know  i  could  very  well  just  go  look  for  someone  else  with  a  couple  matches,  right  ?  ”  a  smile  tugged  her  lips  upwards  .  “  but  what  do  you  want  ,  hypothetically  ?  ” 

he flicked the ash from the cigarette and shook his head, “me? nope. Don’t know what coulda gave you the idea that i would.” he looked back to looked back to his book and creased the page it was on before closing it, “what even is that?” 

“  you  just  have  the  looks  of  a  chronic  smoker  ,  i  guess  .  ”  esme  smiled,  not  really  showing  her  teeth  .  “  mostly  nicotine  and  paper  ,  though  i’m  pretty  sure  you  are  aware  of  that  .  now  will  you  please  borrow  me  your  lighter  ?  or  will  i  have  to  sweet  talk  you  into  it  ?  ”

𝓈𝒽𝒶𝓀𝑒𝓈𝓅𝑒𝒶𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓃 𝓉𝓇𝒶𝑔𝑒𝒹𝓎 —  it looks like ESME WRIGHT is late to class once again . how do they expect to get their degree in PERFORMING ARTS by skipping class ? it’s a wonder that they made it to their SENIOR year . then again , i heard that they were INTELLIGENT which may give them a pass with professors , but they are also RUTHLESS so maybe not . all i know is that they remind me of STAGE MAKEUP RUINED BY TEARS, TORN PIECES OF POETRY, PLAYING WITH MATCHES so watch out . oh look , SHE just walked in !
