The most basic, intractable fact about mental illnesses is that you simply cannot willpower your way out of them. The only exceptions to this rule are the ones I have, which continue to disable me due to lack of determination and other grave personal flaws
I do not buy into the narrative that expansion is inherently bad for current teams. It can be challenge, and an adjustment at baseline, but phrasing it as a net negative feels wrong.
Boston lost their first draft rookie, coach, and Captain between expansion and the coach taking a different opportunity and we went from a team who was in the middle of the pack and barley missed out on the play offs to a team who won most of their games and clinched into the play offs first.
Ottawa didn’t have a great time last expansion, but they still made it to the play offs, and their performance honestly was not inconsistent with the year before!
I was expecting last years expansion to kill Minnesotas defense, but they took it and rolled it with.
And Montreal after expansion, added depth to their lines during free agency and won the cup after failing to get past round one of the playoffs for two years.
It hurt my feelings that Hillary Knight left, but Boston played so well this season! I’m devastated Muller is gone, but that doesn’t mean my team is doomed!
Star players getting shuffled around also means other players have the opportunity to step up and thrive which has been so fun to see. I’m really excited to see how different combinations of players produce different results and let different women take the spotlight and excel!
