"Libertas sine labore" is a Latin phrase that translates to "liberty without labor." It is a saying that honors cats and their independence.

Films watched in 2015.
Film 6: Black Narcissus (Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, 1947)
Nota: 8/10
“Hay algo en la atmósfera que hace que todo se vuelva exagerado.”
I was thinking the other day how I never “discover” films anymore, by which I mean genuinely stumble across a film I know nothing about. Pretty much everything I watch now I’ve made a conscious decision to view on some level whether it’s buying discs, checking out something mutuals have posted here, following the work of a director or star, there’s always some element of research beforehand. A couple of clicks on the internet and you have some idea of the genre, a small synopsis. That doesn’t mean films still can’t be surprising, exciting, etc, and maybe it’s a good thing to somewhat seperate the wheat from the chaff (though long time followers will know I still watch bad films), but I’m just very aware of how much my ways of “consuming media” have changed.
Anyway Black Narcissus is a film I have a strong memory of “discovering” back in my teens. A real bored, clicking through the channels on a Sunday afternoon, ending up on BBC2 and, “Oh an old film about nuns. Might be interesting and I do like a wimple…” but by the time Sister Ruth has put on her make up and is stepping onto the balcony it’s like “FUCKING HELL! This is the best thing I’ve ever seen!”

And as it’s Yasujirô Ozu’s Birthday (and Deathday) what better excuse to repost this old classic from days of yore - the many (but not all) teapots of Ozu!
