Shaneâs condo is just as quiet and neighbourless as Shaneâs house. Itâs just as perfectly, tastefully, interior-designer decorated as Shaneâs house, and itâs even less lived-in. The only room that anyone ever spends any time in is the bedroom, because the condo only gets used when Rozanov is in town. They meet there after their games in Montreal, they fuck, and then they leave. Nobody has ever spent more than four consecutive hours in that apartment. Only one other person has its address.
Rozanov calls it the sex apartment, or the fuck condo, or Shaneâs sex dungeon, if heâs feeling like being particularly irritating. But the fact that Rozanov refers to it at all immediately breathes more life into that practically-abandoned building than is contained in the house that Shane has occupied for four years.

Written for the single-word prompt "barren". This is a bit of a Shane Hollander character exploration and a bit of an ode to the secret sex condo.

Hi! I love what you're doing here, it's so fun to see what ideas people are playing with, and very easy to find fic recs.
I'm looking for a lost fic! It's post TLG and Ilya has a bad hit on the ice and Shane gets to comfort and be there with him because theyre public now. I remember the announcers thinking that Shane was leaving the bench to start a fight but he actually just laid down on the ice to comfort Ilya.
Here is what I could find.
Good Knees Go to HeavenÂ
When Ilya takes a bad hit on the ice, Shane is there to take care of him.
To Bite One's TongueÂ
Ilya takes a bad hit. Shane panics. Cliff is a Good Friend. Svetlana is a GOAT. Hayden is just Hayden.
In an instantÂ
During an away game against Washington, Ilya and Shane's lives change forever. One second Shane is headed for the bench after passing the puck, the next there's a bad crash and Ilya is laying motionless on the ice.
Does this fic sound familiar to anyone else? Please let me know x

Hi! Do you know of any fics where thereâs some sort of drama around being micced up during a game? Preferably before Shane and Ilya are outed
Hiii!!!
I had so much fun reading these, so I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
hot mics and hotter rivalries (or how i learned to stop worrying and let my boyfriend out us on national television) by pucksandpower
Mature - Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov - Completed
Shane Hollander is going to murder his agent.
And he means that literally. Because his agent is the reason heâs currently wearing a hot mic during Hockey Night in Canada. Against the Ottawa Centaurs. Against Ilya.
Ilya, who has no filter. Ilya, who thinks workplace professionalism is a hilarious suggestion for other people. Ilya, who has spent a decade perfecting the art of saying absolutely unhinged things to Shane on the ice, safe in the knowledge that nobody can hear him.
Ilya, who definitely doesnât know about the microphone.
What follows is sixty minutes of Shaneâs life flashing before his eyes while his secret boyfriend enthusiastically discusses their sex life, their broken furniture, and exactly what he wants to do to Shane after the game â all broadcast to millions of viewers.
The problem? Shane canât get a word in edgewise to warn him.
There are no spoilers in this one, but in my opinion, this has a better coming-out than in The Long Game.
the hot mic heard around the world (or how hollanov broke the internet) by pucksandpower
Teen and Up Audiences - Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov - Completed
The hot mic incident was just the beginning.
Now the internet watches in real-time as Ilyaâs Spotify playlist gets leaked (with NOTES), Shane attempts subtlety (narrator: he fails), they bicker about boy bands on late night TV, someone admits to having a ring for six months ON TWITTER, and approximately 20 different social media platforms collectively lose their goddamn minds.
Featuring: journalists having breakdowns, Reddit threads that require moderator intervention, TikTok compilations with 1.2M views, brand partnerships from Skittles, a plague of engagement speculation, and two hockey players who cannot stop being chaotic disasters on main.
The fandom was writing fic about them. Turns out reality is messier, queerer, and somehow MORE unhinged.
[or social media reacts to the week following the Hot Mic Incidentâ˘, told entirely through tweets, Reddit posts, Instagram stories, podcast transcripts, and the worldâs most romantic Spotify playlist]
This is part 2 of the previous fic, but in my opinion it can be read as a standalone fic. To me, this has Dear Evan Hansen vibes, and I will not explain.
Ilya Rozanov's 12 Step Plan For Public Flirting by OtherWaysHome
Teen and Up Audiences - Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov - Completed
Ilya still loves a terrible decision. Nearly ten years of exposure to Shane just mean that now, the terrible decision comes with a plan. This time it comes with bullet pointed lists, research. Fresh ideas scribbled late at night and stuck, one over the other, onto the fridge door.
This crucial, terrible decision comes with deliberation and forethought and a twelve-step fucking plan.
A plan that starts with âattend every game he can between the womenâs leagueâs rivals-turned-wives Clara and Katyaâ and ends with âkiss Shane on the mouth at center ice.â
Because Icarus has nothing on Ilya fucking Rozanov. The internet is not ready. Yuna is going to have his head for this. Step one begins on Friday. He cannot fucking wait.
--
Half Ilya Rozanov POV and half social media fic tracking the chaos, managed and otherwise, that is unleashed as Ilya enacts his plan.
Ilya is still with Boston in this fic. It includes a sort of soft launch of Hollanov with a social media aspect. Also, as a fun bonus, it includes the pwhl.
Searching for something to say by WeirdV
General Audiences - Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov - Completed
Spoilers for the book The Long Game
Whoever thought it was a good idea to mic up Hayden Pike, sleep deprived, on his first game back from paternity leave, was either an idiot or a genius.
Hayden Pike would never do anything to risk his best friend's happiness - or reveal his secret.
But a sleep deprived Hayden Pike who is worried about his wife being alone with 4 kids for the first time - might forget he is mic'd up and he might forget to tell his best friend and - more importantly - his rival.
Why am I sad over a lighthearted fic.
hot mics and cold air vents by claremontfox
Not Rated - Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov - Completed
The thing about rivalry games is that everyone expects blood.
Big hits, shouting, gloves on the ice, and something explosive enough to replay in slow motion with dramatic music layered over it for weeks afterward. Boston versus Montreal always delivered on that front, so when the league decided to mic up Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander for the broadcast, nobody questioned it.
If anything, it felt inevitable.
What no one expected was domestic bickering.
I loved reading this one so much. It is short and sweet. I just love happiness and fluff.
âYouâre starting to sound like him,â said Hunter.
Shane thought⌠if Hunter knew⌠he had had years to out them. He had been in the room next to Ilyaâs. But he had never said anything. Feeling numb, terrified, Shane said, âIâm sorry, what?â
âYou fucking heard me, Hollander.â Hunterâs face was so angry. Shane saw the truth, the threat, in the manâs face.
He was on a mic. He was micâd. This would ruin Shane and Rozanov. He dropped his gloves without really thinking about it. He never dropped his gloves. Hunter couldnât run his mouth without teeth. His teammates caught him and held him back. He chirped a lot, calling Hunter old and past it, hoping to distract him, get him to not say the worst thing he could possibly say. All Shane could hope for was a distraction.
When Hunter chirps at Shane while micâd up for behind-the-scenes content, Shane feels sick. He knows his parents, Ilya and the world hear it, and he worries about the consequences.
This fic is canon divergent in a good way. This includes an alternative coming out for Shane/ sort of Hollanov.
the devil in his veins longing for tenderness by anonymous - Explicit
"Ilya wakes up in the early afternoon, in his underwear, with a dry mouth, a crick in his neck, and loud, incessant banging. It takes him longer than he is proud to admit to realize that itâs coming from his front door. He gets up and immediately regrets it. His living room is a mess and the light coming in from the window makes him wince. He does not want to clean today. What he had wanted was a rare, quiet night. Maybe text Hollander to rile him up after his loss the day before. Instead, Marly insisted on coming home with him after his girlfriend dumped him, so he could drown his sorrows. He remembers making some questionable choices after that, and if the state of the house is any indication, he is right.
Oh, that fucker. What did he forget here?
âMarly, you fucking asshole, I swear if you donât stopââ Fuck. His head. How much did he drink last night? âCouldnât you wait until practice tomorrow to getââ He opens the door. A small child is looking up at him."

Rival dog-sled mushers Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are competing in the dangerous Yukon Quest race when Ilya loses control and crashes off the trail. Shane happens upon him and saves his life, but a blizzard has moved in, and they must seek shelter together. Ilya is injured, and Shane must care for him while keeping them both alive.
OR: Shane and Ilya get trapped in a blizzard and âkissâ in a cave.
âWhy donât you leave me?â Ilya asks, breaking the silence in the tent. Heâs on his good side, facing the back of the tent.
âWeâve been over this. I couldn't leave someone who was hurt.â
âNo, not yesterday. Now. You can travel in these conditions; it wonât be fast, but Iâm sure youâve raced in worse. You could leave me here with some food and water, along with my dogs, and head to town. Itâll take you less than a day to get there, and they can send a rescue for me once you arrive. So why stay?â
Shane heaves out a heavy sigh, as if the question itself has weight. âIâm not sure. Youâre right that it would probably be faster, but I just canât leave you here.â
âBecause of the bears?â Ilya jokes, his voice lighter than it was a moment before.
âNo, not because of the bears,â Shane answers back. âI justâŚI don't want to leave you out here. It might take longer, but Iâd rather we stay together,â he admits, his voice so much softer than itâs been.
âOkay,â Ilya agrees, his voice matching Shaneâs.
âBesides,â Shane continues, âhow would I get the full credit for saving you if I canât show up with you strapped to my sledâ

Shane puts his head down, focuses on his edgework. He doesn't let himself linger on the thought that's been echoing in his head since he got to the rink this morning.
I want to go home
The ice doesn't feel right under his skates. The lighting is just a fraction off. The air smells different. He's not sure if the rink is wrong or he is. He swallows around the ache in the back of his throat.
I want to go home
Coach blows the whistle and he flinches, tries to focus. He knows what he's doing. He's the top of the league for a reason. If he's one thing, it's good at his damn job. He's not going to be a letdown today of all days. He's got this. He can do it.
He runs the drill, shoots, scores. Textbook.
I want to go home...but I can't
He thinks about what would happen if he said it out loud. Thinks about picking up the phone and dialing a number and a familiar voice on the other end, a voice he's heard echoing across rinks and when he's so tired he can't think straight and every boring average day in between.
He pictures it, then: giving in, voice thick, asking, "Can I come home?"
The voice laughs. The voice says you made your choice. The voice says you think you get to come back? Here? Now? You think you're welcome here?
Or maybe the voice says of course you can. You can come home. It will be exactly like it was, nothing will be different. It will be like nothing has changed.
It's a promise and a threat; everything has changed.
The scrape of skates, an arm thrown around his shoulders, a helmet bonked gently against his own.
"What, you too good for passing drills now?"
Shane shakes himself, pastes a smile on his face, gives his husband a grin. "Just waiting for you to catch up, Rozanov," he chirps.
Ilya responds with exaggerated offense, leading Shane back to the drill setup where Wiebe and the other assistant coaches are clustered.
"First day with your new team and already sassing your captain! Bood! Bood! Come defend me from Hollander!" Ilya is crowing, animated and joyful and beautiful. Shane lets himself be herded.
Shane knows he had to leave. Even if the playoffs had turned out differently, the locker room had turned toxic. He would have been miserable if he'd stayed. Getting to play with Ilya, getting to live with Ilya, it's a dream come true.
There are moments in which Shane knows those inner voices are lying to him. Heâs heard variations of them his entire life, whispering in the back of his mind that heâs somehow not good enough. Itâs applied to everythingânot a good enough son, or hockey player, or boyfriend, or husband, or father. He knows those things arenât true, that heâs got plenty of people to lift him up, to tell him that he is in fact, good enough. Shane has strived his entire life to perfect skills and craft and be the best version of himself no matter what obstacle or challenge that has been set in front of him.Â
He knows heâs good at things, even when they donât come easy. But heâs not going to pretend that he doesnât sometimes need those comforting reminders.Â
Rowan wonât stop crying. Shane knows from talking to his parents and Hayden that sometimes babies just need to do that. His son is coming up on turning one and being a father has been one of the best yet stressful experiences Shaneâs ever had. His dad tells him that itâs okay to feel like that and so many other emotions all at onceâthat two things can be true at the same time. That Shane can be happy yet overwhelmed and it doesnât make him a bad father.Â
It justâŚit feels like, sometimes, Rowan only really lights up when Ilya is around. Heâs done so much reading (to the point where heâs probably overdoing it) on the fact that sometimes babies and toddlers favor one parent over the other. That itâs common. And ShaneâŚhe would never make Ilya feel bad for their son preferring him. Because of how much Shane loves Ilya, he completely understands that inclination.Â
But it doesnât help him feel any less stressed, any less worthless, any less not good enough when Ilya does something as simple as leave the house to go on a run and Rowan has been screaming his head off since the front doorâs closed.
Shane has been patient, heâs been soothing, heâs been as comforting as he can be. But heâhe can feel himself start to unravel along the edges, can feel himself begin to feel worked up and overstimulated and that stupid voice is whispering in the back of his head telling him he canât do this.Â
He gently bounces Rowan against his chest, closing his eyes as he walks back and forth in front of the living room windows, his heart ricocheting in his ribcage when he hears the front door open. Ilya toes off his sneakers, a little sweaty in his navy blue tank top and matching running shorts. His curls are a bit damp and he smells like musk and remnants of body wash, laundry detergent and home when he steps closer.Â
âOh solnechnyy svet, big tears,â He says; sunshine. Ilya alternates between that nickname and one other oneâhe tends to call Rowan âsunshineâ when heâs crying and âlittle beetleâ, malen'kiy zhuchok, when heâs not.Â
âHe wonât stop.â Shane whispers.Â
Ilya pauses, his hand moving to touch the top of his shoulders. Shane can tell that he wasnât going to take Rowan from him because he needs to shower, but now he steps closer based on Shaneâs demeanor. One arm is around his husband while the other brushes over the back of their sonâs head.Â
âItâs okay,â Ilya whispers back.Â
âNo, itâs not.â Shane snaps, his voice quiet but firm. Frustration boils to the surface, creating a lump in the back of his throat. He hates that his eyes are misting over. He rips his gaze away from Ilya, sniffling, letting out a slow breath as Rowan begins to calm down with Ilyaâs proximity.Â
Shane shakes his head, fuck.Â
âIâm sorry,â He says a moment later. He doesnât want to take his disappointment out on Ilya. Itâs not his fault and he doesnât blame anyone for their sonâs clear affection for him. âIâm justâŚIâm tired andââÂ
Ilya presses a kiss to his temple, gently shushing him. His hand moves up and down his back in firm strokes, âI know.â He then reaches for Shaneâs chin, his fingers gently moving his face until brown eyes find blue, âYou are good at this.âÂ
Shane swallows, his lower lip wobbling, âIt doesnâtâŚâ It doesnât feel like it, is what he wants to say but he canât get the words out. Ilya always sees his most vulnerable parts, the spaces in which heâs the most raw. He sees them and doesnât turn away.Â
Ilya draws Shane into his chest, gently holding onto him and stroking Rowanâs back as well. Their son has quieted down, drying tear tracks on his chubby cheeks, babbling softly as he reaches to touch Ilyaâs curls. He plays with a few of them between his fingers.Â
Shane knows that he should pull back to let Ilya get on with showering and to justâŚtake a few deep breaths, calm down, push the hysteria down underneath a layer of control that heâs worked hard to keep. But Ilya keeps him close, a few kisses pressed to his jawline and shoulder, only allowing Shane to take a step back when he feels like heâs actually okay.Â
Ilya tugs his tank top off, tossing it aside. His skin is slightly flushed from running, highlighting all his pretty moles. He doesnât take Rowan from Shaneâs embrace but he presses himself closer again, skin to skin, smiling as Rowanâs body lines up against his shoulder. He plants a kiss to his cheek,Â
âYou are my sunshine, my only sunshine,â He sings quietly, âYou make me happy, when skies are gray.â He rubs a thumb over Rowanâs cheek, removing tear tracks, âYou'll never know, dear, how much I love you,â He glances at Shane, leaning over to plant a kiss to the corner of his mouth, âPlease don't take my sunshine away.âÂ
This isnât the first nor the last time Ilya will sing that lullaby; he has plenty of others that he shares with Rowan, some in English, others in Russian. The familiarity of it all has Shane feeling less off-kilter and shaky, more solidified in this life theyâre building together.Â
Shane lets out a long sigh from his nose, Rowanâs head tipping to rest on his shoulder; sleepy from crying and Ilyaâs singing, âIâll put him down,â He strokes a hand over his sonâs back, âGo shower.âÂ
Ilya hums lightly, nodding as he picks up his tank top from where he dropped it on the floor and heads in the direction of their bedroom. Once Shane successfully puts Rowan into his crib and turns on the baby monitor, he wanders into the bathroom, sitting on the closed toilet seat. He justâŚwaitsâenjoys the silence of being close to his husband without any words or pretenses.Â
Shane takes a deep breath, inhaling soap and humidity and the scent of Ilyaâs bodywash. He runs his hands over his face, rubbing his eyes. The water turns off and the shower door opens, he can hear Ilya step out and grab a towel to dry himself off. When he pulls his hands from his face and looks up, Ilya is watching him, a fond smile on his face, using a second towel to dry his curls. Shane reaches for him, wrapping his fingers around his hip, tugging until Ilya is standing between his legs. He presses his face to his abdomen, nose and lips resting at his navel. Heâs not hinting at anything sexual, he justâŚhe needs to feel grounded.Â
Ilya is quiet and patient, tossing the towel aside and threading his fingers through Shaneâs hair, massaging the back of his neck.Â
âIâm sorry you came home to such a mess.â He mumbles.Â
Ilya squeezes the muscle underneath his hairline, âStop. You are not a mess.âÂ
Shane nods and then pulls back to look up at him. He swallows over a raw emotion in his throat, jumping topics, âRowan really loves when you sing.âÂ
Ilya smiles, shaking his head, holding Shaneâs gaze for a moment as if heâs missed something vital, âI wasnât singing to him,â He says, cupping Shaneâs cheek. His thumb traces over his freckles, back and forth, âI was singing to you. Thatâs what you are to me, hmm? Sun.âÂ
He hears the hidden message there even though Ilya doesnât say itâThatâs what you are to our son, too.Â
Shane stands and wraps his arms around Ilyaâs waist, mapping his mouth out against his in a firm kiss. When he pulls at his towel and it flutters to the floor, Shane can feel Ilya smile before he kisses him again.Â
