Can you spare me your thoughts on ryou and yami bakura's relationship? (And if you enter ryou/yami bakura shipping zone do tell. That is my fav ship)
ok i'm not even going to try to organize my thoughts, i'm just gonna spill a bunch of words out here in whatever order they happen
the way that bakura has practically taken over ryou's life for him....i wonder if the idea of normalcy ever occurred to bakura, especially before meeting yugi. how long has he been going through the motions, waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, doing homework, coming home.
did the lines ever become blurry like they had been for yugi and yami? how much of that d&d interest is ryou's, and how much of it is bakura's? the figurine-making? the love for the occult? deep down, does ryou seek a good thrill? is that why he keeps coming back to the ring time and time again, even when he knows it's dangerous?
even moreso i wonder how many lives bakura has already lived, hopping from one landlord to the next, and now he's here, closer than ever before to his ultimate goal. it has to be at least a little bittersweet for him, thousands of years of obsession drawing to a close. at the beginning of millennium world he tells yugi that he wants to move on too— and i think there's some truth to that statement, even if his intentions were underhanded.
how many deaths has he died? how many times did he take a host's life before realizing that he would always be left behind, trapped inside that wretched ring?
bakura retained at least some of his memories of the past for certain. did any of it bleed over into ryou's mind? does ryou remember kul elna? does he see friends and family in his dreams, ones he's never met before, and feel a stabbing grief? what about the other way around? does bakura know about amane? does he have nightmares about a sister that was never his?
bakura calls himself a wish granter, because he feels what ryou feels, and he knows ryou wants friends. even long before monster world arc he's already been trapping souls in those figurines, for what reason other than to grant ryou's wish? is it really out of malice, or is it the only way he knows how to do good?
(after all, now these souls are safe, he knows they're not going anywhere, he'll make sure they don't suffer. and if they do happen to suffer, he can rewind time. as DM he can control everything. nobody has to die, nothing ever has to change. it can all just be a fun game!)
they're all just kids. but one day ryou isn't going to be a kid anymore, and instead he'll be a broken adult, in a body that barely feels like his own, with a gaping abyss where another soul once buried deep, with old itchy scars being the only remaining proof that something else was ever there to begin with. he'll make a shrine to visit, and tell no one whose it is.
