i’ve just been reminded of some of the kinda silly things that reveal that someone’s main source of canon is the anime. do anime-only yugioh fans know one of the tells is bringing up saving the world like it’s a chronic issue
Drink Water Wednesday i guess
I understand it's because Malik has pushed the emotions and thoughts that he can't handle on his own onto his other self thus partially explaining the following, but there's this interesting contrast of how the base Malik so very deeply loathes the dark and yet he still harbors love for his father who was the one who trapped him there, and then Yami Malik of course embraces and oozes with all the hatred Malik has for his father that Malik can't handle or face yet but Yami Malik also has fondness for being in the dark and feels a sense of place there.
In some way, it's possible that Malik -hates- the part of himself who found some sense of meaning and comfort underground, instead espousing his rebellion with his all and everything, and so those feelings ended up buried and vested into Yami Malik. To admit to those in-some-form nuanced memories and emotions might feel like a betrayal and might be devastating in its own right for the base Malik and Malik's need to exist in the full world is so bright (he could exist in the full world with nuanced feelings but it's so rough - he killed it).
Someone else pointed this out to me, and this is probably a more subtle thing that would require more long-term passionate fans of Yami Malik to notice, but Base Malik is actually a lot more volatile and impulsively angry while Yami Malik does a much better job at staying calm even if he's being such an "edgy" character.
they're of course both experiencing both these things but base malik feels more ready to indulge the anger and fear of the world feeling out of control and yami malik feels more ready to indulge the calm of asserting control forcibly and violently

Now I'm curious. Which Yu-Gi-Oh series do you prefer?
Which Yugioh series do you prefer?
Yu-Gi-Oh "season 0" 1998 - Toei Animation (the one where a woman voices yugi)
Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 2000 - Studio Gallop
nuance / idk man both are equally good / i hate both fuck yugioh
If you answer, please reblog! also pls explain in the tags why you chose your choice, i love to hear others' opinions!
I think if anyone in-universe ever showed genuine concern for kaiba's well-being and asked him what was wrong he would just drop the entire DSM-5 onto their laps and tell them they have 3 hours to figure it out
Rules of the game:
- only one final diagnosis allowed. Final diagnosis can include multiple afflictions but u only get one shot at guessing.
- u are allowed to ask him one (1) personal question per hour. He will not lie to u but he also will not be direct with his answer.
- u are allowed to break into one of his personal spaces (house, car, office, phone) to look for clues but travel time and break-in time factor into ur 3 hours time limit. Once inside u only get 10 minutes MAXIMUM to snoop around
- ur not allowed to ask mokuba for help

Marik: We’re dead!
Bakura, shrugging: I’ve been dead before.
Pet responsibilities
I love Yugioh because it features boys showing emotion and having empathy and being up front about their love for each other.
What do yall think Marik does with his life after the show? I really hope he does something incredibly lowkey, I don't think doing anything remotely related to his past or magic would be great for him. He should run a motorcycle dealership or be an aerobics instructor.
I could see him doing some sort of part time auto repair job, maybe he starts strength training to feel in control of his own body again. (he's very passionate about high protein vegetarian meals because of the strength training and he's very annoying about it. Marik should still get to be annoying). He makes sure to spend time with his family and still plays card games with them, maybe not Duel Monsters though.
Yugi and Bakura are happy to hear he's doing well because they aren't coping well without the Millennium items At All.
I have a 3DS now

He’s warning you
Based on this
someone that has never seen yugioh pls explain what is happening in this scene 🤣
Yu☆Gi☆Oh! (1998) - Ep 16
have seen yugioh but I didn't watch all of season 0 so funniest guess I have based on previous context is
Villain of The Week hides behind a stuffed bear to conceal identity, beats up usual classmate about something concerning Game of The Week [one of those little handheld water ring toss games with the button on it] (they're super popular right now) before going to beat up Yugi next, because Yugi has the [limited edition water-ring-toss game]. Yami appears seconds later to challenge villain of the week to a shadow game involving them. Yami impresses them by being able to win at the game by not even looking at it. The Villian of the Week's punishment is either a. being trapped in a bear costume b. being trapped in a giant water ring toss game as one of the rings or c. becoming a stuffed bear with a human mind
