You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?

Help Me Stay in Therapy and Out of Crisis
I really hate having to ask for help like this, but Iâm trying to do the responsible thing and reach out before things get worse.
My main support person is moving soon, and Iâm trying to get consistent therapy in place so I can stay safe, stable, and employed through a huge life change. The first month is the part I canât afford upfront.

THEY ARE
when i was 8 i had a very intimidating russian woman as a music teacher- she was both my opera instructor and piano teacher. about a month into piano, she sat me down and said to my mother and i "this child- very beautiful voice, good for singing. i will not allow this child to continue piano. god did not want this child to play an instrument. he told me this in dreams. that is all."
my mom had it written down on a slip so we could remember the exact words because it was so funny. i HATED playing piano and i was definitely not good at it (i did end up having a good 5 years of opera training and ended up being a pretty accomplished choir singer though) and the idea of god sending my incredibly severe and serious russian piano teacher a dream begging her to stop teaching me piano was probably the funniest way it could have gone.
Seriously, I think I know why music teachers are often like this, and it's the same reason PE class sucks, and I think it's important to talk about.
If you are a musician, and you really really really love music, and you want to base your life around it ... there are very few careers that will allow you to do that. Your chances of being a professional musician who successfully builds a life-long career at it are very small.
but there's always a demand for music teachers.
In the same way, if you are a very athletic, sporty person, and you really really love playing sports and working out, and you want to base your life around it ... there are very few careers that will allow you to do that. so you end up with a lot of people in those careers who don't want to be teaching, they want to be doing the thing themselves. Music/Sports was always easy and joyful for them, so they have no real empathy for people who struggle, and they often don't know how to explain it to people it doesn't come naturally to. And they get bored and frustrated. And sometimes they take it out on their students. They end up being terrible at teaching and take students who were meh about Their Beloved Subject and turn them into people who hate Their Beloved Subject.

Raden is a very old decorative craft (see video below), usually used on lacquer bases with floral or traditional motifs. Itâs so great to see it used this way!

I couldnât resist starting another Luminous once I saw this line of fabric. Itâs called Color Collage by Shelley Davies from Northcott and itâs been in the back of my mind for ages.
Iâm using six colours in the piecing, which should make it 92âx109â (unless I mess with the pattern even more and take one of the rows out completely) which will technically be a king size LOL The seventh colour pink is gonna be used on the binding so I get to use alllll the colours we had in stock in the shop đ
Someone please stop me, I canât stop making these fucking things lmao đđđđđđ I had a plan to do something else but I couldnât help it!

I did take one row out of the centre so there are only two red centre blocks instead of three. 109â is too big for my queen bed, but I can work with 101â LOL
Technically this will still fit a king at 92âx101â, but I am a blanket hog and that feels like a really skinny king to me.
ALSO??
Because I altered the amount of rows (downsizing) but did not alter the amount of blocks I made, I ended up with just enough left over to make two matching pillow cases! They are even on point like the quilt.
This is gonna look spectacular on a bed.

As you can see a little from the roll on the back of the long arm, I found a fun rainbow universe print to put on it with all the colours on the front.
Iâm quilting the pillowcases too, though in a tighter pattern so they can handle more washing.
I canât wait to put this on a bed.
I love it so much. My favourite Luminous, I swear.
The pillow cases look so good too. As I mentioned, I quilted them much tighter than the quilt so they can be thrown in the wash a lot more. Same pattern, just smaller design.
Itâs so busy, I could stare at it for hours finding things in the prints.
Also? I love the pink binding. I really did want to use every colour, so this was a nice compromise to having to resize everything LOL
The backing is also so busy LOL You can hide a lot of pet fur on both sides of this thing.
The pillowcases turned out great. I used the leftover from the backing to back the pillow cases so that everything matches. And theyâre envelope style so the pillows wonât slip out. Hate it when the pillowcase slips off my pillow.
I had to sew three 45â wide strips of fabric together for the backing to fit on the long arm. Since the quilt was only 101â at its widest, I had a whole 30â strip that was usable and perfect for this.
