Pietro brushed her hair back out of her face. “Thank you. I’ve always been… pretty.”

"I figured. You actually.. Look like someone I know, can’t tell who though."

"You know, I get that a lot. I guess I have one of those faces."

"There’s a lot of pretty people around here."

Pietra pushed a hand through her hair. “Oh, I’m not that interesting. There isn’t really much to tell.”

"I think you’ll understand why I find that hard to believe."

"Oh? Why don’t you tell me why that is?" She glanced over, raising an eyebrow.

"You're too pretty to be boring."

The girl laughing pulled a smile from Evan's lips, and he interlocked their fingers so that he could keep up. "So tell me about yourself, huh? I want to know who you exactly are."

She tapped a nail against her teeth. “I know a nice bar that’s pretty tame this time of day. If you’re up for that sort of place.”

"I'm up for anything. Let's go."

"Well, I have nothing else to do… What kind of place do you have in mind?"

"Anywhere's good. We don't have to go any place you don't want to. Wherever you feel nice." And right then and there, he completely forgot about the person he was actually planning to see. He'd visit Pietro tomorrow, right now, he was definitely going to enjoy his company.

"Yeah. I moved here a couple years ago." She definitely should have ended this conversation and booked it as far away from here as possible. But, so far, the conversation was nice.

"So you're a resident, huh?" His smile widened just slightly. "Mind showing me around? Haven't been here for awhile. And I could use a drink, maybe I could buy you one too...?"

"Just curious." She brushed her bangs out of her face. God, did he really not recognize her? Either she was better at this than she thought, or Evan was dumber than she thought. "Where’re you from?"

"Two cities over. Not too far, actually. Just a two hour ride, maybe three." He shrugged, still smiling at the other. "How about you? Do you live here? Seems like you do."

Pietra recognized that smile. A part of her - a big part - wanted to snort at the absurdity of it. But it obviously meant Evan didn’t recognize her. “Yeah? How long do you think?”

"No idea, maybe a week or two? I could technically stay long after that, or go home earlier than them. So it depends on me either way. Why?"

Pietra knew Evan well enough to know where this was going. She picked her purse off the ground, slinging it over her shoulder. “It’s all right. You- don’t seem like you’re from around here.” And she really wanted to know what the fuck he was doing in Gotham.

"That's cause I'm not." His lips curled up in a boyish grin, happy that he'd found someone who could keep him occupied the entire day. "I just came here to visit. Plus my folks needed to settle some stuff, so I'll be here for awhile."

"Oh, sorry, I didn't--" Seeing the girl cut Evan off, taking about 10 seconds before he found his voice again. "Wow. I mean, shit, here." He moved his foot. "I can dust it off if you want me to...?"

"Don’t downplay it, it wasn’t a mistake. And Pietro, name one person who wants to be with a slutty, selfish, drug-addict? I can deal with selfish, fine, I can deal with drugs too to an extent. But Jesus Christ, you wanted to sleep with everything that had a dick back then. And you didn’t even have the decency to pretend that you didn’t. Did you think I’m just gonna stick around while my boyfriend kept asking just about everyone for sex? Did you think I’d let bygones be bygones when he promised he wouldn’t but he had drugs then had sex with the fucking dealer? God, ‘Tro, what the hell were you even thinking?"

"I was a mistake. I slipped, I fucked up.” Pietro flinched and looked away. “You were the only one I was sleeping with. I left Tim for you. I wasn’t even sleeping with Match anymore. John was the only one and it was just once. He’s not a dealer, he just knows where to get good stuff. And- You know what? I was thinking that I was tired and withdrawing and in pain and tired of being sober. I just wanted one last- It got out of hand, I didn’t know it was so strong. God, you’re never going to see me as anything but a slut, are you?”

"Fine. Say you didn’t sleep with anyone else, what happens the next time you get tired of being sober then? What happens the next time you get a craving and it’s so strong that it gets out of hand? You gonna go ask John for another shot? Or are you gonna go find something new again, and fuck whoever comes with it? You even had the nerve to show up right after and pretend that nothing happened. It’s one thing to hide wanting to sleep with someone else, and another to hide that you actually did it. So unless you start proving that you aren’t a slut, ‘Tro, no. I probably won’t. Not now."

"I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t want you to leave me. I don’t know, Evan! It was the first time I wasn’t using regularly since I was fifteen. He smacked the bowl, letting it shatter on the floor. The force of his hand against the glass cut his knuckle but it started to heal before more than a few drops of blood could escape.
